Chapter 2: Confrontations
It was three weeks later, the national gym leader summit. From the five islands all the gym leaders had gathered. Johto, Kanto, Orange, Cosmos, and Houen.
Misty and Brock were surprised to find Ash there as well.
“Ash, what are you doing here?”
Ash blinked cutely. “You didn't know? I run the Shadow gym in the Cosmos League.”
“The Shadow gym?!”
“Sure.” Ash said. “The last one after the 9 gyms needed to enter the tournament.”
Bugsy took Ash's arm. “Come on, the others are waiting for us.”
Misty scowled at Bugsy as she led Ash away.
The gym leaders were seated around a large conference table. Misty was startled to notice that Bugsy and Ash were sitting together, but was silenced when the Elite Seven made their presence known.
“So, what were we called here for this year?” Surge asked. “No offense or anything, but I'd like to get this over with.”
Lorelei fixed cold eyes on him. Surge quailed under her icy glare.
“It seems lately that several of our gym leaders have been lax at their posts. The league has received a large number of complaints.” She said.
“Brock Slate.”
Brock jumped up, looking nervous.
“If I recall correctly, you were given two months' vacation. It has been almost a year since you have visited the Pewter Gym. There are many trainers who are still waiting for your return because they cannot leave until you have battled them. You know that Mount Moon is unapproachable without the Boulder Badge. You have been remiss in your duties.”
“But, I-.” Agatha cut him off. “Make your excuses later. You are to return to your gym at once.”
“Yes…” Brock whispered, chastised.
“Misty Waterflower.”
This time, Misty knocked over her chair as Lance fixed his gaze upon her. “It seems,” He checked the notebook he was holding, “That you have not visited the Cerulean City gym in three years. It is therefore in the League's interest to replace you.”
“What!? But I left my sisters there!”
“With no battling pokemon? Is that the action of a responsible gym leader?”
Misty fumed angrily as she sat down in her seat.
“Surge, we have received a few complaints from young trainers. Please refrain from flirting, it is bad for the League's image.” Will said this in an impossibly bland tone.
Karen picked up her file. “Erika, good work. Sabrina, I'm glad your gym is doing fine as well, Koga is of course here, so Aya, you've been doing an admirable job. Blaine…”
“What is it?” Blaine snapped.
“Nothing.” Karen said. “Just a question, did you manage to rebuild your gym after the volcanic eruption a year ago.”
“Yes.”
“All right then.”
“Giovanni, we have news that you've been using unrecorded pokemon.” Will piped up again. “Might I?”
He indicated with a motion. Giovanni frowned, but assented.
Will walked over and placed his hands on Giovanni's temples, closing his eyes. Several images flashed before them, before he pulled away.
“Mewtwo…”
Giovanni stifled a gasp. “How did you?!”
“I'm psychic.” Will said matter-of-factly. “Mewtwo, at least, is the only illegal pokemon. However, you're not within league rules allowed to use Houen-caught pokemon either.”
Giovanni frowned.
“You have thirty days to remedy the situation, or we strip you of your position and the gym leader status will go to another.”
Lance scanned the rest of the papers. “Hmm, Johto League is fine, Cosmos League is fine, Orange League- Rudy!”
The young man looked up, startled.
“Please refrain from asking for the hand of every female trainer you battle. It upsets them.” Lance said. His eyes narrowed. “I also have here a police report on-.”
He didn't get to finish, because Rudy released his Exeggutor, panicked, with a call for Solarbeam.
When the dust cleared, Lance still stood there, protected behind his Dragonite. “Dragonite, Ice Beam. Rudy Shepard, you are now stripped of your gym status and position.”
Agatha nodded approvingly as she picked up the fallen report. “Why Rudy, its amazing that you're capable of… rape…”
Misty shivered slightly.
“Houen league is fine also. It shames me to say that the Kanto League has suffered the most serious of mishaps.” Agatha said, fixing her beady glare on Misty and Brock and Giovanni.
“But!”
“Enough.” Agatha said. “Meeting dismissed.”
After the meeting, Misty was complaining to Brock hotly.
“I can't believe it! The Elite Seven blatantly favor Johto and Houen!”
Brock shrugged. “Well, they do have a point…”
“Shut up!”
Misty suddenly noticed a few of the trainers gathered and talking in low voices. She dropped Togepi and ordered him over to eavesdrop.
Togepi did.
“Any news yet?”
“Of the Hyper Stone? No.”
“I wish…”
“I know, you two keep looking, I'm heading to Aqua to search.”
“Good luck.”
“You too.”
“I'll check the Dragon's Den, since I'm one of the only ones allowed inside.”
“Radio tower for me, its pretty close.”
“I'm not sure yet, but I'll try to look in my free time, if I have any.”
“See you.”
The clump separated and the leaders walked away, alone or in pairs.
Misty followed Ash, Bugsy, and another leader as they walked down the hall, still chatting softly.
