Plotbunny anti-cliché fic! Started 7/7/04
We've all seen those fics where some normal person off the street/Mary-Sue gets sucked into their Gameboy and saves the pokemon world, so, here's my take!

Chapter 1
Ash cheered as his avatar Red's Jolteon defeated Yellow's Blastoise in his Blue version. Finally!
Finally, he had beaten the game!
He tapped the A button on his Gameboy Color repeatedly as he waited for Professor Oak to finish the long speech so he could be inaugurated as Pokemon Champion. Pokemon Master of the League! How cool!

His annoying sister Maria said that it was just a game, but he resented that. So what if this was his second time playing?
Victory was still sweet…
Very sweet! He smiled and watched the credits scroll. He ought to try out that cheat he had seen at www.CheatCentral.com, and get the legendary Phoenix.
They said to beat the Elite Four between twenty-six and forty times continuously without using the Pokemon Center. Then, Lance would take him inside the rest of the hallway where the records were, to a tunnel at the end, and there he would face Phoenix. It would be a flying type that knew Flamethrower, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Surf!
Only items in the League though…
He could do that! Thanks to Missingno's Duplication of rare candies, Master Balls, Full Restore, and Max Revive, he was set!
He continued to watch the credits scroll, but suddenly, there was a bright flash of white light and he fainted.

When he came to, he met worried golden eyes.
“Are you all right, Red?”
Ash nearly swallowed his tongue in shock. It couldn't be! This must be some weird dream… but no, Lance was kneeling next to him and checking his pulse while his Dragon pokemon flew around in the background.
Well, at least it was an interesting dream.
“I… what happened?”
“Well, we had just finished recording your name and pokemon into the Central database, but that's when the keyboard exploded. I'm afraid you were directly in the line of fire… but I healed you, so you should be fine.”
Ash blinked. How odd. And why was Lance calling him Red of all things?
“Um… my name's not Red, Lance.”
“I know, Ash, that's just a nickname.”
To say Ash was confused was an understatement. He noticed to his surprise that he was dressed in blue jeans and a blue and white jacket, like his game character, and a heavy pack on his back, while from his belt dangled six poke balls.

No way…
Well, at least it was a _accurate_ dream…
“So what's happening now?”
“Well, are you sure you're all right?” Lance asked, as Ash finished the glass of mint tea he had been given.
“Um… I think so.” Ash said.
“Are you sure? You sound stressed.”
“Well, I'm too excited.” Ash lied effortlessly.
“Of course you would be! You just beat the Elite Four and your rival. You should get some rest.” Lance stood up. “Come on, I'll show you to your room.”
“… Room?”
“Yes, as Champion you have to stay in the Indigo Plateau at least for half of every month.”
“O-okay…”
“Don't worry.” Lance reassured him. “You won't have to battle unless the challenger gets through all of us Elites, and besides, you're the first person besides Yellow to have beaten us.”
`I see…”
Ash wondered what his rival would be like then.
As he flopped down on the bed, he wondered what it would be like to have a dream inside a dream…
He was soon fast asleep.
He woke up the next morning, someone was shaking him.
“Rise and shine, Champion.”
“… Lorelei?!”
“Yes, it's me.” She smiled brightly at him, not at all like the cold exterior he had remembered from the game. “Breakfast is waiting. Do you like croissants?”
“I'll eat them!”
“Well then, wash up. We'll be waiting for you.”
“We?”
“The rest of the Elite, there are one or two things we need to talk about.”
“All right.”
He dressed quickly in a pair of black slacks and matching shirt he had found in the backpack - apparently he had good taste in clothes in this dream, too bad he'd forget it as soon as he woke up - and went to the dining room.
After croissants, milk, and strawberries, Lance brought up the schedule.
“This is a rather new situation, since no one has defeated the Elite Four before. Yellow was only champion for five minutes before you dethroned her.”
“Really?”
Then, the rest of the sentence registered. “… Her?!”
“Yes, Professor Oak's granddaughter.”
“I see…”
“Well, unless someone defeats us, you won't really battle… you have to stay here twice a month, but I already told you those. What's new?”
“The council sent us this short letter.”
Lance skimmed it and then tossed it to Ash. “Read it, Red. Might be important.”
Ash obeyed…
“Well, it seems all right. I get a salary?”
“Sure, all gym leaders get paid. It's lower than most, but its still substantial.”
“Wow!”
“At least you don't have to stay here ten months every year.” Lorelei said a bit depressed.
“… Ten?”
“That's the life of the Elite Four.” Bruno concluded, and the meeting was ended.
