Chapter One- Pokemon Academy
/Axle, wake up. Wake up, Axe/ Pikachu called out to his human partner.
\Leave me alone, Pikachu, I'm trying to sleep\ the human replied. His name was Nova Axemelee, but he would rather be called `Axle', since `Axemelee' is too long.
/Okay, but if your fifteen minutes late for class, don't blame me/
“Fifteen minutes?! I'm going to be late!!” the fourteen year old red haired boy shouted, enough for the whole dorm to hear him, since he was on the second floor and he had a voice loud enough for the entire planet to hear. He scrambled around, grabbing his usual clothes, a red shirt with dark red fingerless gloves and pants, with black shoes. His blue eyes checked the clock and saw that…
\Pikachu, its six o'clock, an hour before school starts\
/Yeah, I know/
\Then why…?\
/Because I just like making you panic/
\I hate you so much\
/Yeah, whatever. Since you're up, why don't you make me some breakfast? I'm starved/
\This was your plan from the beginning wasn't it? Man, sometimes I really wish you weren't my partner…\
An hour later, Pocket Monster Academy was about to start its second week with the first year students, second year, and third year students. Among the first years are Axle, and his Pocket Monsters Pikachu and Hitokage.
“Welcome to Pocket Monster Academy. My name is Lee-Hakase, and I am your Field Instructor.” a brown haired and black eyed Hakase said to his class of students on the Battle Arena. He wore a brown shirt, shoes, and khaki pants under a white lab coat and glasses. In his hand was a clipboard with the new student's names. “Today I will be putting you in pairs so that you can battle each other. Hmm…let's see…the first battling pair is…Nova Axemelee and Hoshi Mariko. Please step up to either side of the arena and get out your Pocket Monster so that we can start the battle.”
Axle stepped up to the arena and saw that his opponent was a girl just a bit shorter than him. She wore a black shirt with bell shaped sleeves, a short black length skirt that reached her knees with a red bow in the back, and black sandals. She had black knee length hair and her bangs were tied into braids just past her shoulders. Her red eyes seemed nervous and shy, as her two Pocket Monsters, an odd colored Ralts and a bell-collared Eneko, stood in front of her legs. Her Ralts seemed to be glaring at her Eneko, who was chasing its tail.
“Pikachu, go!” Axle said, as Pikachu sprang into the ring, ready for battle.
“Ah…Suzu (Bell), go!” the girl replied, her voice soft as the Eneko ran into the arena, somehow still chasing its tail. It finally stopped, and stood facing Pikachu, swinging its tail.
“Okay, begin the match, and remember it's one-on-one!”
“Pikachu, use Denki SHOKKU!”
“Suzu, use…ah…Taiatari to avoid it!” the girl said, but the Skitty was too slow; the electric shock hit the pink cat and the shock caused it to faint.
“Oh no, Suzu!” the girl cried, rushing over to her Pokemon and cuddling it. The Ralts walked over to the Eneko too, seeing if it was alright. The Eneko opened its eyes, and the girl sighed a smile. Axle watched the entire thing.
“Okay…um…next match!” Professor Lee said, as Mariko and Axle went back to the group, Axle's eyes on Mariko the whole time.
Later, during lunch, Axle was sitting with his friends inside when he looked out the window. Outside he saw Mariko alone, leaning against the base of a tree with her two Pocket Monsters running around next to her. A half-eaten box lunch was on her lap, but she was staring out into space, loneliness and sadness in her eyes.
`That's the girl I battled earlier! But, why is she alone?' Axle thought, staring at Mariko. `She looks lonely. Maybe she'd like some company…”
Axle started to get up from the table, but the bell rang to signal the end of lunch. Axle saw Mariko get up, but students rushing to get to class blocked his view. When the traffic died down, Mariko had vanished.
`Shoot…where'd she go?' Axle glanced at the clock. There was only a few minutes left to get to class. “I'm going to be late for my next class! …Wonder what it is…”
/Idiot, get going!/
\Fine…I'm going…\
The next class Axle had was Pocket Monster's Strength and Weaknesses with Trevor-Hakase. Trevor-Hakase's class was all about…lectures. Lectures, tests, projects, and note-taking. Actually, make that lectures, tests, projects, and A LOT of note-taking. Axle thought that was all they did. He was starting to get bored out of mind.
\Boring…\
/Yeah…/
They had to stop talking since Trevor-Hakase was talking again. Axle sighed and buried his head in his arms.
“Okay, here's your first project for the quarter. I'm going to divide you into pairs and you'll make a chart on the strengths and weaknesses on Pocket Monsters. It must be colorful and easy to understand. Yamazaki, you're with Masaki. Aoyama, you're with Maehara. Nova, you're with Hoshi.”
Axle's head shot right up while the hakase kept pairing people out. `That girl's in my class?' He looked around him, seeing if he could find her.
“Alright, please get into your pairs. This project is due in three days.”
As everyone walked off to their partners, Axle was looking for Mariko on the right side of the room and didn't notice the girl walking up to him.
“Ah…you are Axle, right? The boy I…um…battling with?” a soft voice came from the left side of him. Axle turned around and saw the girl before him.
“Uh…yeah…I am. I guess we should introduce each other again. I'm Nova Axemelee, but you can call me Axle.” He stuck out a hand and grinned big.
“Um…I'm Hoshi Mariko, but I guess you could call me Mariko.” She gave a tiny smile and shook his hand.
“Anyways, do you want to come over to my dorm and do the chart? My room's a bit messy, but it has a lot of stuff we could use for our project.”
“Um…sure.”
“Okay, here's my room number…”
A little while later, after the academy had finished all of its classes for the day, Mariko stood in front of a door with the numbers 23.
\Um…I think this is room twenty-three, right Psy?\ Mariko asked, looking down at her first partner.
/Yeah. But you should really stop saying `uh', `um' and you should stop hesitating./
\I know but…I can't help it. That's how I am\
/Nah, don't listen to him, Mariko! Do whatever you like!/ her Eneko, Suzu, replied
\Um…I guess…\ Mariko replied, and then knocked softly on the door. A second later, the door opened.
“Hey, Mariko!” he looked down and saw her Pocket Monsters. “These are your Pocket Monsters?”
“Uh…yes. This is Psy and this is Suzu.”
“Well, you might as well come in. Sorry about the mess.” He scratched the back of his head.
“Um…I don't mind.” Mariko said, stepping inside and saw that it truly was a mess. Books were scattered around as were shirts. Boxes were still packed into a corner. Papers covered the floor while Monster Balls were here and there.
“Aha…I haven't been able to clean up lately.”
A few minutes later, both were trying to figure out how they should make the chart.
“I think the Monster attacking should go on the top and the defending Monster should go on the side.” Axle said, showing his partner on a piece of scrap paper.
“Um…I think it should go the other way around.” She said, also holding up a diagram on another sheet of scrap paper.
“Hmm…maybe we should vote. Our Pocket Monster can help. We can each hold up a hand for which one we like best.”
“But that wouldn't work. My Monsters would vote for me and yours will vote for you. That's three votes apiece if we vote for ourselves.
“Oh, right…then hows about Rock-Paper-Scissors?” the girl nodded. They both held hands over the table and started. One two three shoot! Both paper. One two three shoot! Both scissors. One two three shoot! Both rock. They both sighed and dropped their hands. They looked at each other and nodded once more. One…two…three…shoot! Paper and rock!
“I got paper! You got rock! Paper beats rock! We do my design!” Axle said, putting his paper over her rock. Mariko blushed and he did too when he realized he was touching her. He quickly pulled away and there was an awkward silence.
“Okay…um…let's get back to the project, shall we?” Axle replied, still blushing. Mariko nodded with her head down, she was blushing hard.
A little while later, they had gotten halfway through the project. They still had to make the marks about the strengths and weaknesses, but besides that everything else was done. It was getting late.
“Wow, we did a lot, huh?” Axle said and Mariko nodded “Hey, how come you don't talk a lot?”
“Um…that's how I am. How's about we finish the project in my dorm?”
“Sure. What dorm is it?”
“Um…Room…22…right next to yours…” they both face faulted.
“Huh, I didn't know you were right next to me. Sorry I woke you up this morning with my shouting.”
“Oh, you didn't wake me. I was already up.”
“Really? What time were you up?”
“Five in the morning.”
“What?! Why so early?!”
“Because I make my own lunches. I get up that early to make them because it takes me a while.”
“Oh. Well then, guess I'll see you tomorrow.”
“Yeah.” Mariko walked out the door with her Pocket Monsters in tow.
The next day Axle stood in front of the room door right next door to his. His Monsters were next to him as well. He took a deep breath and knocked on the door.
A voice was heard. “Coming!” a second later, Mariko appeared in the doorway. “Come on in. Sorry if it's a bit messy…”
The three stepped into the room and their jaws dropped. The room was spotless. How could Mariko cal this…messy?
\Pikachu, if this is Mariko's version of messy; I wanna know what her version of clean is…\
/Yeah…/
Mariko winced, and everyone but Pikachu didn't notice. “Well, I guess we should get started on the project, huh?”
“Yeah…”
Half and hour later, a finished poster was on the table.
“We're done.” Axle said, and Mariko nodded.
\Finally! Maybe now we can go battle without homework to worry about, huh, Pikachu?\ Axle thought to his partner, not noticing Mariko had taken a deep breath. Pikachu rolled his eyes.
/You're so dense, do you know that?/
\What are you talking about?\
/You haven't noticed?/ /Man, why I'd get stuck with the idiot…?/ /Axle, you're friend has the gift./
\Gift?\ Pikachu whapped his head with his hand \Ow!\
/The Gift, stupid, you know the one where humans are able to talk to Pocket Monsters and vice versa?!/
\She does?!\
/Yes, she does. Other people with the Gift can hear us when we're talking. In fact, I bet you her Monsters and herself can hear us right now./
Axle, Pikachu, and Hitokage looked at Mariko, Ralts, and Suzu who nodded and, in Mariko's case, blushed and nodded.
“Well, I guess we share two common interests now.”
“Two?”
“Pocket Monsters and this Gift. Though, probably in everyone in the world loves Pocket Monsters…”
“Yeah.”
“So, these are you're Monsters, right?” Axle said pointing to Ralts and Eneko.
“Yes. My Ralts, who I call Psy, and my Eneko who I call Suzu.”
“Okay, this is my Pikachu and Hitokage.”
“Cute.”
“Uh…yeah, cute.” `I was thinking cool, but I guess cute suits her, since she's a girl and all…' “Anyways, I guess I should be going. See you tomorrow?”
“Uh…why?”
“Why? We're friends, aren't we?”
“F-friends?”
“Yeah, friends, right?”
“Uh…yes, of course. See you tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow.” Axle walked out of the door with his Monsters, leaving Mariko blushing and smiling, knowing she had a new friend.

Mariko: Okay, I'm done! Anyways, we have several special guests. Kankuro from Naruto (who I do not own!) and Satoshi, from Pokemon (don't own either!)! They'll be here for several chapters, and I'll probably add more characters here.
Satoshi: I'm dead…*starts to weep*
Kankuro: …You ARE a boy, aren't you…?
Satoshi: Of course! Did you not see any of the episodes when we went to the beach? I have a flat chest!
Kankuro: No…I live in a ninja world without TV!! I don't even know what the heck you're talking about!
Satoshi: Oh…
Mariko: Anyways, if you're wondering why I'm using the term `Monsters' every so often, it's a shortened version of `Pocket Monsters'. It's a lot easier to write.
Satoshi: Hey, are YOU a boy?
Kankuro: Yes, I am. Don't make me sic Karasu on you…*glare*
Satoshi: Don't make me sic Pikachu on you…*glares back*
Mariko: Okay you two, calm down! There's no bloodshed in this fic, it's a Pocket Monster fic, remember? There's no gore in there!
Satoshi/Kankuro: Fine…
Mariko: Anyways, I thought this chappie was good!
Kankuro: Whatever…
Satoshi: Am I gonna be here?
Mariko: No, only in reference. We're running out of room! Anyways, the next chapter is `Chapter Two: Friends or Rivals? Ken Mori Makes An Appearance!' Please read and review! Email mistakes to marikorikochan@yahoo.com!
