Chapter 7

Ash was practicing using Ember on various patches of grass while Lance watched. < You're getting better. >
< You really think so? >
< Well, after practicing for two days I would hope there's some improvement. > Lance teased.
Ash looked offended, but Charmander just patted him on the back. He was in Charmander transform again, holding it in place while he practiced a Charmander's attacks.
Just then, the transformation gave away.
Lance picked Ash up and gave him another peach. “Are you all right?”
“Hai!”
“Well, do you mind if I scan you?”
“… Scan?” Ash asked, slightly panicked.
“It's rather easy, really. Just relax…”
Ash nodded, and opened his eyes in shock as Lance kissed him, just the barest brush of kisses, really.
A minute later, Lance smiled. “Well, you're on level eleven. You know Transform, teleport, ember, and scratch.”
“Wow! You found that out just by kissing me? That's so cool! Can you teach me how to do it?”
Lance chuckled. “I suppose.”
“Yay!” Ash said. “Let's get started! I can't possibly get tired from doing this!”
“No, I guess not…are you sure? You're only twelve.”
“So?” Ash asked. “I'm a mew, right? So age doesn't matter.”
Lance narrowed his eyes a bit, so accepting? It seemed suspicious, unless the little one was going to be selectively blind again. If that was the case…
He could deal with it easily. < All right. But remember, our relationship stays a secret. Mom and dad would panic. >
Ash nodded.

“First, you have to kiss me… tongue and all.”
“Nani?”
“You heard me.”
“But that's not what you did!” Ash said, not sure what was going on. Sure, he would love to do that, but why?
“I'm on a higher level than you, I don't need as much contact. Matter of fact, I didn't have to kiss you at all, but it seemed like you'd like that better.”
“… Oh.”
“If you want to, you can just touch me.” Lance said. Ash flushed, and then kissed Lance, tasting him.
Male pride… ah well…
It felt nice, too.

< Sweet… you're so sweet, Lance. >
< Ash, concentrate. We can kiss for real later if you want. This is training. Now, look inside of me. >
< Inside? >
< Yes, inside… you should see blue light… >
Ash nodded a few seconds later. < Okay. >
< Next, imagine the light changing into something you can understand… this could take a while, so you might want to get some air. >
Ash shook his head as the blue light began turning into a chart. However, he only got to read the top line before he broke the kiss and gasped for air.
“You're on level sixty?!”
Lance shrugged. “Well, at least you saw that.”
“I want to be as strong as you are, aniki.” Ash said.
“I see.”
“Can we try again?”
Charmander giggled. If only my training were that easy…
“But this is scanning, not an attack.” Lance said. “You seem quite eager, Ash.”
Ash shrugged. “What can I say?”
“You'll make me lose control if we keep this up.” Lance said. “Put your arms around my shoulders.”
Ash did so, and was startled when the chart popped up again.
< Good, it worked… now start reading… >
Ash finished a few minutes later and broke contact. “Wow.”
“Yes.” Lance chuckled. “Don't worry, you'll get better.”
“Hai!”

Lance pulled a vial of ice-blue potion out of his pocket and took a sip, before putting it back inside. < Well, try scanning Charmander now. >
It took another few tries, but sure enough, the hug scheme worked.
< When you get better, you don't need to touch anymore. >
< Oh. >
Still… Ash thought, it was nice to touch Lance. He watched as Lance demonstrated how to do Bubble, and than began practicing.
He would get better!
He would grow up fast, too, so Lance would want him back. Then it wouldn't hurt anymore.
And Lance wouldn't have to worry.

Ash scanned the grass, the trees, and some random plants for practice when he wasn't shooting off bubbles.
Bubble seemed easier than Ember. Maybe that was because it was weaker?
He practiced for a while.

Later, he ate a chocolate bar and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich too.
It was pretty late when they stopped, but then again, it was fine. < Lance? When should we go to Cerulean? >
< Do you really care about the badges? >
< Not really, but… don't you have to go back to Indigo Plateau? > Ash sniffled.
< No. Dragonite's there with a clone. >
< Oh! >
< So I'm staying here with you. > Lance said.
Ash hugged him tightly. * I'm glad… *
< I'm happy too, Ash. > Lance replied, kissing him again.
