Title: Shadow on the Wall
Chapter 1: Wish?

***************************************************************** *****
Phantom (as Don Juan):
You have come here
In pursuit of your deepest urge
In pursuit of that wish
Which til now has been silent, silent...

***************************************************************** *******
I can't believe I finally did it! I mean, when I first started out on my journey, I just caught pokemon, like everyone else. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I didn't get a pokédex until two years after I started, so I could compete legally, but it was still fun. And I owe it all to my pokemon.
Ninth league champion…
I'm lying on the bed now, and watching my pokemon run all over this huge palatial mansion that I've somehow wound up with.
Well, the Elite Four have their own complex over there.
It's gloomy-looking, but that's not the point. I haven't fought them yet, not sure if I want to.
I mean… maybe we should try making friends first, ne, Pikachu?
It would really be annoying if they all hated me, I mean, they're the only other people around here…
Right? Right.

So Pikachu is sleeping next to Minun and Plusle, and Aerodactyl's hanging on the roof, and Gyarados and Poliwrath are in the pool, and Venusaur and Eevee are around here somewhere.
They're my main team, except Minun and Plusle.
They helped me win this fight.
I owe it all to them.
The sunset is really pretty.
All of those pinks and purples and oranges make a really pretty picture!
I guess I'll meet the rest of them tomorrow…
Please don't let them think I'm a stupid kid. I know I'm not that smart, but still! Let's go, Pikachu!
PIKA!
I'm glad you are with me, pikachu.
What if they don't like me?
I mean… I'm still a kid, right? Well… I'm not that much of a kid, but still! And I'm fourteen!
I really hope they don't hate me.
Viper's nest…

Well, worrying about this for hours probably isn't going to help.
I should go to bed.
What? It's only nine? Well… maybe I need the sleep. I'll try at least.
The stars are nice though. I like the large windows. It's just like the stars were always shining overhead when I was camping out on my journey.
Only it's nice to sleep in a bed for once.
Camping's fun, but too much of it loses the thrill. Especially if it's camping in rain… mudslides… snow…
Yep, my journey took me everywhere.
But I'm so glad I finally got to compete legally. And all the extra training paid off. Score!
See, mom? Wait… you're dead now, you've been dead for years. I know. But it's nice to pretend they'll be someone waiting for me at home.
We all like pretty fantasies.
Well, I hope the Elite Four won't hate me.
This pillow is very soft. Wow…
If I ever lose my title I'll make sure to run off with all the pillows.
Hehehehe, now that would be fun! But of course I don't want to lose! I hate losing. I've only lost two or three times on my journey, and I sure hope it doesn't start now.
Winning is probably the best feeling in the world.
I know it's mostly the pokemon's actions, but its still great! And the exhilaration makes you feel like you're flying through the air later.
It's very warm.
Losing, on the other hand… it hurts.
Well… not always. Sometimes, you understand why you lose, and you come out a better person.
I try to do that.
Other times, I've seen the trainers, they just crumple and they're bitter for the rest of their lives.
Come on! Life is short, so make the most of it! Every day shall be an adventure!
Ash smiled with that thought in his mind and fell asleep.

Elsewhere…
Lance took a sip of the silver-laced liquid swirling around in the cup, as he stared into the murky depths.
Lugia would be severely pissed if he knew his Chosen was using this.
But the medicine really helped….
Lance closed his eyes.

So we have a new League Champion? I only hope he lasts longer than Gerald.
Of course, it was the bastard's fault for trying to steal my Dragonite. Kairyuu taught him a lesson.
Yes… you know; it was almost a work of art, that. Lovely, except his grimace, oh, that totally ruined the aspect.
Still, it was very beautiful.
I'm a dancer, but they don't see it. My canvas stays hidden, behind the wings of night.
My silver blades dance in the night and they never see. Pity, the moon and the flashing darkness are… so pretty.
It is prettier than most of the filth now, anyway.
Besides, I'm an artist. We only want the aesthetically pleasing things, ne?
Well… maybe he'll be my new canvas.
I could use a new work to sculpt into perfection…
Maybe…
And if Honou's Chosen can revive, so much the better! It'll be so pretty.
Yes… let's dance together in the night when the time comes, little one. It will be perfect.
Catch me.

End Chapter

(Note: Remember, blame James Joyce if you don't like SOC. It's after being forced to read and analyze his work that all of this spawned in Phantomness' mind.)

Chapter 2: Meet

(Ash's POV)
Guess what?
I did saw the rest of the Elite Four today, and they were pretty nice. Bruno just grunted, Agatha mentioned that I had gotten farther than Gary, her grandson, and Lorelei just kind of smiled. She seemed bored, though. Am I boring them?
Lance… was just kind of cold.
I don't mean that he was mean, but he wasn't warm. At least not obviously. He just kind of gave a half-smile and welcomed me to the Plateau. So it wasn't too bad.
We had dinner together, but I don't think it will happen again.
Lance is really quiet. He didn't talk at all! But I like his hair; it's so pretty. I wish my hair were like that!
He didn't say anything when he saw me looking, just looked at me while I looked at him. But it is really pretty hair though.
I like watching him.
I think he's a bird, kind of. Pikachu is laughing but its true! I can imagine him like a raven, maybe, a flying bird.
No, ravens are ugly. And they croak too.
I don't' like ugly things. But anyways, Lance just half-smiled. And his eyes aren't open. They don't ever open all the way I think. At least I didn't see them. But he's pretty.
Oh well.
The ravioli we got was pretty yummy, and the ice cream was really good. I'll have to remember that Italian restaurant.
Yes…
Lance was really quiet, however, I don't mind, much.
At least he wasn't mean.
You can look at mean people, and sometimes their faces just scream the meanness. But he just looked empty.
Empty? No, it wasn't that.
It was something else I can't figure out. Well, I shouldn't be musing on this anyway. It's not my place to say.
He's still pretty though.

Yes, that's enough for me.
Maybe it's stress? Maybe. But I don't want to turn out like that!
That would be really boring…
I think he's like a doll… a pretty doll that shouldn't exist. What? Did I really say that?
I should go to bed. It's late. I probably ate too much of that pasta, earlier.
Pikachu, get off my pillow!
OUCH! Stop that! Sorry, I didn't mean it! But I want you to sleep in your own bed. That's why I got you the pretty basket, right?
Right.
Pikachu ran off.

I should have built up more resistance to electric attacks.
Clean teeth! Mom would be mad if I didn't brush them every night. Right! Have to remember to floss too.
Hmm….
Where is my peppermint toothpaste?!
I hate it when these things go missing!
Hmm… well, I should go to bed now.
Time to sleep!
Sleep, sleep…
It's really hard to fall asleep tonight. I think I ate too much.
But the food really was very good…

Why is Lance empty? Is it that stressful to be a champion?
I hope not! But then, Professor Oak is a professor and that's supposed to be stressful but he's fine.
Well, my hair isn't turning gray, is it?
Aah! I don't want white hair!
Fall asleep, please… I don't want to think about his again.
One Mareep jumps over the fence, two Mareep jump over the fence, three Mareep jump over the fence…

(Lance's POV)

How interesting. My kawaii little one still doesn't remember anything. Well, let's play the game then… Catch me…
Please remember, it's so much more fun if you do.
And that way I won't hurt you by accident…

***************************************************************** ******
I have brought you,
That our passions may fuse and merge
In your mind, you've already succumbed to me,
Dropped all defenses, completely succumbed to me,
Now you are here with me: no second thoughts, you've decided, decided….

***************************************************************** ******

(Third person POV)

Lance closed his eyes, feeling the cold seep through him in lovely little shivers of flame. * Nice… *
< CHOSEN!!!!! >
< Hai, Lugia-san? >
< I TOLDyou not to take that medicine unless it was absolutely necessary! What are you thinking? >
< It's no use, Lugia-san. >
< What do you mean? >
< I-I can't control my feelings. You know that. And I don't trust myself; I'll hurt him again! >
< Chosen… > He felt Lugia sigh. < Please, calm down. >
Lance took another sip of the medicine. Ice, that's what it really was. Ice energy in pure form.
But of course, there was always a price.
Ice sealed off emotions, and it swirled through him, along with dragon's blood. Still, if you tipped ice too far, then you lost dragon.
All magic was a balance.
But why was it so hard?

< I cannot stop you Chosen, but I wish you'd be more patient. >
< Lugia-san… >
< Chosen, I can't promise everything will be fine either, but please, don't take any more of that. It's too dangerous. You're walking a knife-edge here. >
Lance sighed. < Would you rather I go and kill? …That works too, Lugia-san. >
From his sleeves, he slipped out his dragon blades. 144 blades were used in the Dragon's Dance.
Lugia chuckled. < You know I never care if you do that. >
With a smile, Lance spread his steel wings and soared out the window. < Then it's a deal, Lugia-san. >

Ash caught him returning home a few days later.
“A-ano, Lance, I thought you were asleep…”
Lance raised his eyebrows. “Why are you in my room?”
“Um! I needed some Full Restore! So!” Ash began to panic, while Lance chuckled and went into the restroom, washing the blood off his hands before the child saw. He returned and saw Ash sitting on the coverlet.
“Well?”
“I…I…I”
Lance looked vaguely amused. “Come on, spit it out. I don't bite.”
“Why are you - I mean, Pikachu told me that you - I mean, not that it's any of my business, but - isn't it dangerous?”
Lance blinked.
“Pi!” Pikachu said, pulling out a vial.
Lance glared. “What I take is strictly my concern.”
“Pi!” Pikachu placed his hands on his hips.
“I already fought it out with Lugia! I don't need you butting in!”
Ash grabbed Pikachu. “Pikachu, leave Lance alone! We shouldn't bother him!”
Pikachu began cursing, which Lance understood much to his chagrin. “Ash. Mouse. Out. Now.”
Ash quickly left pikachu outside the door and faced the Dragon Master.

“All right,” Lance said, sitting down and smoothing his cape. “What did _you_ want to talk to me about?”
“Lance, I…” Ash stopped. “I think I like you. I mean, I've always admired you, and… and I think it's real.”
“Honto ni?”
“H-hai! But when I look at you, all I see is emptiness…”
Lance took Ash's hands. “I'm in the darkness without any light, little one, and there's no way out.”
“Can I help?”

***************************************************************** *****
Past the point of no return…
No backward glances, the games, we've played till now are at an end…
Past, all thought of if, or when, no use resisting,
Abandon thought and let the dream descend.
What raging fire shall flood the soul?
What rich desire unlocks its door?
What sweet seduction lies before us?
***************************************************************** ******

“I wish.” Lance said, looking down.
“What do you want from me?”
“Don't ask me that!” The Dragon master suddenly snapped. “Don't!”
“But how can I help you?”
“You can't, as such. I have to face the monster on my own or else it'll burn me to nothing. And I can't let that happen!”
Ash blinked. “But…”
“Leave me now.”
“I can't! What kind of person would I be if I said I loved someone and then didn't help?”
“You can't help me.”
“Yes I can.” Ash insisted. “Please.”
Lance closed his eyes, sighed, and then whispered something to him. It sounded vaguely like an apology.
He was taken aback when Lance suddenly shoved him backwards onto the bed - why had he been sitting there anyways? It had probably been a bad idea… And claimed him in a soul-binding kiss.
< Mine… > the trainer hissed.
Lust blazed in those golden eyes.
Ash resisted the urge to scream, but he felt no fear.
Why should he be afraid?
It was… warm?

***************************************************************** *****
Past the point of no return…
The final threshold
What warm, unspoken secrets will we learn?
Beyond, the point of no return…
***************************************************************** ******

He huddled against Lance's body for warmth afterwards.
“Pretty, pretty, pretty, little one.” Lance whispered, almost a mantra, as he ran his fingers through Ash's silky hair. “Did I hurt you, my little light?”
Ash shook his head.
“You're not lying to me?”
“No.”
“You still love me?”
“Hai.”
“Why? After what I did… why don't you hate me? Why?”
“You need me.” Ash whispered. “No one else does… I'll shine for you and be your light in the darkness. It's the least I can do.”
“You-?”
“I remember.” Ash said in a half-sob, as he buried his face in Lance's chest. “I remember…”
Lance's fingers briefly paused in their caressing. “Kirei…”
“Don't hate me…”
“Don't hate me.”
“I can't.”
“I cannot either, my little one.”
Ash sniffled, then looked up into Lance's eyes. “Hai.”
Past sins, present, and the price would be paid eventually.
But not now…

End Fic
I know, I know… I could go on and do sap but guess what? I don't want to! The main point is made anyways.
Completed 6/6/04

Lance: …
Phantomness: I like vagueness!
Ash: Well, it could be worse…
Phantomness: *pulls out Scythe* you were saying?
Ash: I mean, it could have been a long lemon with Misty.
Lance: *hugs Ash* don't give her any ideas…
