Chapter 3

About 3 months had passed, and Kanto was largely clear of the monsters. Lance was up to level 42, and Persian said that was quite good…
Still…
Lance was brooding and hoping the quest would be over soon.
“Aren't there other guardians, Persian?”
“Well, normally there's just one. Guardian powers are hard to obtain, so…” Persian fidgeted. “Unless there is a dire situation, we only need one guardian.”
“Why me…” Lance sighed.
Persian shrugged. I don't know…
“I didn't know you could speak pokespeech.”
Of course I can! You can understand me?
“Why not? I've hung around with you for a while.”
“Point taken.”
Persian curled up for another nap. Lance was getting used to staying as a girl for extended periods of time, due to the nature of transformation.
He had slightly longer hair as a girl, but it didn't change much.
Currently, Lance was sitting at the mirror, staring at her reflection. She had a nice figure as a girl, certainly…
Well, that meant nothing.
She got up, as the seishi fuku shifted. Apparently at level 20 you could change clothes in this form… luckily.
It faded away into a pair of black slacks and a white blouse. Smiling, Lance walked outside.
The mask vanished too, but she wasn't `Lance'.
Her eyes stayed silver, and the features were softer. It did not matter much.
She sat in a coffee shop for a few hours, identified four monsters, discreetly disposed of them with Death by Ecstasy (level 34): a quiet death that at least felt nice.
She kept thinking that these `Guardian' things were really hentai though… * It's all about sex… I hope it doesn't affect me… *
Still…
Lance ran her tongue over her lips as she looked at the boy doing his homework. How cute…
Wasn't he the one she had saved so long ago?
He was rather hot.
Personally, Lance didn't find anything wrong with admiring guys. Since he was a girl half the time, why did it matter?
Besides, he didn't like _Bruno_.
Better taste than that!
She doubted she had feelings for anyone, though.

Ash nursed his hot chocolate as he sat at a green-table clothed booth. His literature homework looked up at him.
Pikachu snoozed in his backpack.
His Alakazam was nursing a latte.
< You seem preoccupied. >
“That girl over there…”
Alakazam looked, and nodded. < She does resemble very much the girl who came to save your life… >
“Alakazam, she saved my life.”
< That she did. >
“I…”
< You're in love with her. I can't tell how or why, but you are. >
Ash blushed and nodded. * She did save my life… *
Who else would have? He had been all alone, the monster had come without warning, it had KO'd all his pokemon…
Inconceivable that he would live, but he had.
Why wouldn't he love the one who gave him life? And life was so sweet and precious… he wouldn't waste the gift.
He wouldn't!

Lance finished the coffee and left. Ash stared after her retreating figure, sighing.
It couldn't be…
He discreetly watched. With a shock, he saw a monster approaching.
< We'd better not interfere. > Alakazam said. < We can't help either way. >
In an instant, Lance's form shifted to battle mode. Luckily, the mask hid her face well.
“Ah, a Level 19 monster. You do know that you're outmatched, don't you?”
The bug lunged forwards, hundreds of tiny legs wriggling as the pincers on its head snapped open and shut.
Lance smirked. A crescent kick temporarily disoriented the monster, before Death by Ecstasy knocked it out.
Lance then used Eclipse to teleport away.
“… Sugoi…”
< That settles it! Same person. > Alakazam said wisely.
< I should thank her… > Ash murmured.
She was still as pretty as ever.
She was pretty! So pretty…
Ash sighed as he once again began to blush. * But I do think I've fallen in love with a shadow… its kind of scary, but not. *

Lance reappeared in her room and undid transformation.
“Do you think anyone saw?”
“Even if they saw my female form, they wouldn't know its me.” Lance said “Thank Lugia….”
“You're doing well.” Persian looked up from his minicomputer.
“Are you sure?”
“Positive.” Persian smiled. “No guardian has ever surpassed level fifty, but I think you will…”
Lance colored slightly. “I just don't want to be stuck… you know.”
“I know. Thank you for not revealing this secret to anyone.”
“Why would I? It's embarrassing…”
Persian giggled. I assume it would be…

“I don't know what to do.”
< I thought you liked Of Mice and Men. >
“I do, but I can't think of an essay topic.”
< Ah… >
