Pokemon Fan Fiction ❯ The Journey Onward ❯ Foreword ( Prologue )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Foreword:

Dear Reader,

Once upon a time, there was “Kathryn's Pokémon Journey.” It was started in middle school, continued unto high school, and was resurrected in college. The problem was, when it was resurrected, it no longer followed the plan prerecorded from middle school. It's reaching beyond what it once was and is exceeding my expectations, becoming a story that I actually want to work hard on.

Ah. But then there is life.

The story will, of course, continue. When it updates is unknown but it will continue till it reaches its conclusion. I'm not going to leave readers hanging when they've expressed such interest in it. It's evolving and changing, perhaps the ending I foresee will no longer be the finale by the time I get to it but if it does, what a doozy!

The story that once started as “Kathryn's Pokémon Journey,” has now changed and excelled beyond the scope of just Kathryn. Rachel, Krissy, the Pokémon, and the other many characters who are scheduled to make an appearance all play important roles as well and, to acknowledge that, the story has been officially renamed as “The Journey Onward.”

Continuing on…

This story takes place in the era that the Pokemon games Gold and Silver are in, steadily moving forward into the era of Sapphire and Ruby. This means that most of the Pokemon seen will be from Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver, and Crystal where as any of the Pokemon from Sapphire and Ruby mentioned will be new discoveries.

Besides using information from the games, this story also uses ideas presented in the television series, movies, and comic books. Essentially, I'm hoping to take the best from all the sources and create a spectacular story (but I'll leave that up for the readers to decide).

As you can tell from the story, this is not about Ash. Roughly, I'd say that this story takes place about six years after Ash left for his. And, while he is not a key component, he may eventually work himself into the story. But for the most part I'd like for you to forget about his existence and focus solely on Kathryn and friends, instead of wondering where Ash will appear.

What you are currently reading is the 2nd edition of Kathryn's story, tweaked for spelling errors, beefed up with more details and (hopefully) a more realistic feel than it had before. It has been beta read by my “editor” E-chan so much thanks to him for his help in this (however grudgingly it might have been obtained). I (obviously) don't own Pokemon (or you'd see this going on air rather than the same repetition they have going with Ash) or any other Anime (spoof or otherwise) that might appear (trust me, you'll know it when you see it).

I'd like to thank the readers who put up with the 1st edition and called it “good” or even “great.” I hope that you will find the revision to be even more satisfying (and better written!) and I'd like to offer up my heartfelt apology for making you wait so long with each chapter update but I promise I will finish this (you've put up with me too long for me to just stop). For the new readers, THANK GOD (or, if you're an atheist, just be extremely grateful) that you get to read the 2nd edition and not the first. Feel free to leave comments (good or bad) and constructive criticism. Tell me what you liked, what you didn't, why you didn't, what made you laugh, what made you cry. I'm only going to get better with your input, you know! Tell me what you think was weak, what made you read and forget yourself. You all know what you like and what you don't, so tell me! (Just keep in mind, I'm not going to give away any spoilers so don't ask.)

And, with that long-winded foreword, the last thing I have to say is that the story is rated PG-13 for my own safety (rather than yours). I'm not sure where it's going to go but I know there will be some swearing, perhaps some violence, and a hint of lime later on (much later!). Once again, thanks to all of you! Without readers, where would writers be without some kind comments and helpful feedback? You truly make all the difference (and I'm not just saying that for reviews either!).

Yours truly,
