Pokemon Fan Fiction ❯ Unwanted ❯ The End ( Chapter 3 )

For some reason, this is not an easy bunny to write. Maybe its because I hate Candice? *Locks bunny in a cage until it works*

Chapter 3: Switch

“I give up.” Candice said simply, sighing.
Her pokemon looked pitying but also seemed relieved. That training had been incredibly difficult, no joke!
Yes, it was for the better, wasn't it? That was until she spoke her next sentence.
“I'll just find another way to win!”
The pokemon all face vaulted.

With that in mind, Candice began spending her time as gym leader doing research when she wasn't busy battling the few trainers who wanted the Force Badge.
True, it was legal, but it could only substitute up to Rainbow. The other four badges were needed.
However, a week of fruitless browsing through old shops had yielded nothing. Maybe it was clichéd, but it didn't work nonetheless.
It didn't work, much to her disappointment.
So annoying…
What can I do?

Ash yawned, pulling the covers over them both as he fell back asleep with his arms around Lance's waist.
Balancing was such a busy job…
Still, it had to be done before the timeline crashed and burned.
He fixed his mind on a pleasant thought, like strawberry shortcake, yes, that was good, and closed his eyes. Within seconds, he was back in dreamland.

They woke up the next morning, breakfasted on bagels toasted with cream cheese, and everything was fine.
There were no major disturbances that required the scales to fiddle around with.
“So,” Ash said, popping a grape into his mouth. “What should we do next?”
“Hmm…” Lance smiled. “I've got an idea.”
The next thing Ash knew, he was spluttering and soaking wet.
“You tossed me in the pool!”
“It was a suggestion.”
“You could have asked if I wanted to go swimming like any normal person!”
“Then that'd be no fun…'

Ash huffed as a red glow dried him off.
“Come on, it's not _that_ bad,” Lance said.
Ash continued to glare. Lance shrugged, buckled on his wristbands with the blue dragons, and closed his eyes.
Sooner or later…
“LANCE-CHAN! You're so _mean_!”
Lance deftly sidestepped a charging blur, which slipped on the pool deck and fell in again.
Ash pulled himself out, again, eyes shimmering with tears. “You're so mean…”
Lance calmly yanked Ash flush against his chest and kissed him passionately. “Oh?” He hid a smirk as Ash began changing into a tomato.
Little sparks of blue green began popping out on Ash's head. < I can't _breathe_! Stop that! It's not fair! >
< Life's not fair, koibito. > Lance calmly parried, as he tripped Ash and they both fell backwards onto a - where did that bed come from?
Well… Ash acknowledged he had been too busy kissing to notice Lance had teleported them inside. In any case, his mind declared there were better things to do and promptly kicked everything but instinct out.
Lance purred. < Kawaii… >

“I found it!” Candice declared triumphantly, holding up the ring with the pink stone in the center.
Well, it's pretty. Jigglypuff said.
“No! This has more power than you've ever dreamed of!”
Really?
“It's the legendary stone of Isis!” Candice babbled on and on for a few hours, while her pokemon yawned.
Does it work?
Well… since she bought it, I hope she didn't waste the money we earned.
Ain't that the truth.
The next day, Candice triumphantly went to the League again.

Lorelei let her in, being nice. “So tell me, Candice, why are you here?”
“To challenge Lance!”
“Personal reasons?” Lorelei raised an eyebrow. * So what has my cousin gotten to this time? *
Candice nodded.
“Very well, I'll page him.” Lorelei pressed a red button on the wall, and a few minutes later Lance walked out, followed by Dragonite. “You called?”
“Challenge match.”
“Let's make this quick then.” Lance said, leading Candice to the arena.

Candice smirked, the stone pulsing underneath her pink t-shirt. “You're going down! Go! Machoke!”
Machoke popped out, now newly white.
< Light… > Lance grinned. < Well, too bad… >
“Kairyuu, let's do it.”

Dragonite puffed out his chest proudly and waited for the enemy to make the fisrt move.
“Light Beam!”
Dragonite flew out of the way, and then Hyper Beam smashed into Machoke.
“Use Recover!”
“Might as well…” Lance mused. “Shadow Claw.” Dragonite's claws glinted blackly, and then he swiped.
Machoke screamed in pain.
“WHAT?!”
“Light's weak to dark and shadow, dear.” Lance said parenthically. “Now, Kairyuu. Crunch.”
Machoke fainted easily.
“Trying to achieve light-type mastery through hidden objects doesn't always work…”
“How did you!?” Candice asked, before realizing she had just given herself away.
“I have my ways.” Lance said, as Jigglypuff appeared, but a quick Shadow Ball ended that deal.

“Sandslash, Fissure!”
Lance snapped his fingers. “Wonderful. You've destroyed the arena.”
Dragonite kicked up a blizzard.
Candice's jaw dropped when she remembered it was part _flying_ type and therefore resistant to her ground moves.
“And so, you lose.” Lance finished. “Good day and good bye, madame.”
He made an ironical little bow and then vanished along with Dragonite.
Candice seethed, and went again into hysterics. Tearful ones.
It was too late though… what other choice did she have? What other real hope did she have?
Maybe it's time to admit I've lost.

No! I can't! But…
This is just going to waste more time…
Tear-darkened eyes looked at the three fallen pokemon, normal colors bleached to white. So dead…
They looked like boneless corpses. Oh god…
I'm too greedy for my own good; I shouldn't have wanted all that power! What…. What…
This is… real!
This isn't a lie, no game, no dream, I've actually willingly force-evolved my pokemon for temporary glory!
I'm so sorry…
But I can't change a thing.
Candice sighed, collecting them. * It's all my fault, isn't it? You could only obey my orders… I'm so sorry… *
Sorry doesn't help in the present, though. She would be stuck with guilt for the rest of her life.
But at least she knew repentance.

Ash closed the mirror and grinned brightly. “So it all turned out all right.”
“Yes, it did.”
“I'm so happy, Lance-chan!”
“I am too, little one. It's wonderful how things work out on their own without tweaking. Alas, it's a rare occurrence.”
“We should be happy with what we have, though?”
“We should indeed.” Lance said, placing a kiss on the tip of Ash's nose. “So why don't we grab something and relax?”
“Ice cream!”
And the younger guardian dragged the elder to the ice cream stand, as one girl finally moved past a foolish goal

If you hate Candice, yay! I didn't like writing her. She's meant to be hated.
