The Silver millennium...
In one of many tropical forests of earth, an area which would
later be called as the Gangetic plain by humans millennia into the
future, a termite mound stood surrounded by lush green trees in all
their glory. The roar of the Ganges flowing can be heard in the
background. Though the river is close, its roaris not loud enough to
drown out the other noises. Infact in this particular clearing the roar
of the Ganges was almost inaudible as a more peaceful and serene sound
emanated from the termite mound. The sound was a hum and it created
bliss and peace in all living things be they birds or animals or plants.
The vegetation in this part of the forest was greener and looked
healthier than anywhere else in the forest. The birds did not chirp nor
did the monkeys in the tree canopy run away as a tigress with her
kittens walked into the clearing. A young sambar deer grazed at the foot
of the termite mound with its mother by its side. The mother looked up
and saw the tigress in the eye and then went back to eating as though
the tigress did not present any danger to it or its kid. One of the
three kittens, perhaps the boldest in the group ventured towards the
young sambar and began playing with it. The tigress and the mother
sambar sat with just a few yards separating them. Whilst the tigress
cleaned itself with its tongue it's two remaining kittens suckled in its
breasts.
Presently, the humming sound became more pronounced and softer
and yet it drowned out the roar of the Ganges altogether. A white glow
flickered into existence and then gradually grew in brightness over the
course of a few minutes.
The winds picked up and the sambar mother and the tigress began
to look agitated. Perhaps their enhanced senses alerted them to the
presence of something not of this world in this neighbourhood. We will
never know for sure but agitated they did become. Presently, a flash of
light came into existence near one of the numerous teak trees and when
it died down there stood a man and a woman. The man was dressed in tiger
skin and had a three-edged weapon in his hand, much as the one carried
by Titan. He had a snake, a member of the king cobra species coiled
around his neck. The man seemed oblivious to the danger he was in and
the snake seemed content to just look at the mound it's tongue tasting
the air occasionally. The man had unbraided hair and a brownish
complexion with an air of godliness about him. His companion the human
female looked calm and contained. A parrot stood on her shoulders and
looked curiously at the mound with its head tilted to its side. The
woman was dressed in a long green piece of silk the Indians call the
saree. The cloth was simple yet beautiful. The woman had almost no
ornaments on her persona. A chain of gold and an earring on her right
ear with a huge diamond as its centerpiece. About this woman too
radiated an aura of peace and tranquillity and a sense of godliness hung
about her as well. The mother sambar and her kid advanced towards this
female and settled down by her feet. The tigress and her cubs advanced
towards the male and stood guard by him. The two beings looked about and
then the male spoke.
"Raja Chola, your penance has been heard in the astral plane and
you have been found worthy. As such, I reward you three boons. Please
come out of your meditation and claim your reward." The voice was clear
and it was musical in its execution. The notes of the voice seemed to
hang around long since the man stopped his speech. There were echoes
from all directions though there wasn't a wall or a large piece of rock
to reflect the sound waves back for miles around.
The glow from the termite mound spiked and then went out
altogether. Where the termite mound had stood there stood a man in his
mid-forties with a black beard intermeshed with strands of pure white
and a balding head. The man too, had a brownish complexion just like the
visitor was and he was naked except for a piece of saffron cloth wound
around his hip. The man looked healthy and had anyone seen him then they
would have sworn that he had well fed for years though by the looks of
the now destroyed termite mound he must not have had a single ounce of
food for decades.
"Most gracious and sweet lord of the destruction, you have
finally deemed me worthy of seeing your person as well as your beautiful
and kind lady Meenakshi."
The woman smiled inturn and raised her right arm in blessing.
Raja Chola bowed to the ground and began singing a hymn in a voice
melodious beyond description dedicated to his Lord and his lady. The two
Gods seemed mesmerized by his song and when he finished shook themselves
out of their stupor.
"Your meditation has been the most powerful we had yet seen Raja
Chola and it had been felt by all in Heaven. We are very pleased to have
a devotee like you and have thus decided to grant thee three boons. Ask
and all will be given to you."
Raja Chola raised his head and leveled his gaze at Shiva, for
that was what the God's name was.
"My first wish is that I be made an immortal, my lord."
Shiva did not seem surprised and if he was he did not show his
surprise. A glint of a smile came to his face. "You know very well that
immortality cannot be bestowed on a mortal as a boon unless he had a
trace of godliness in him."
Raja Chola's face did not betray his disappointment.
"Then my Lord, I ask that I cannot die unless I am killed by
someone."
Meenakshi smiled and the parrot on her shoulder chirped. She
grasped her husbands hand in her own and turned her face towards him.
Shiva returned the loving look before turning towards Raja Chola.
"Very well, Raja Chola. I grant thee that boon."
Raja Chola smiled inwardly. He wouldnot be able to ask for the
third boon he had planned on asking but it didn't matter as long as he
got this one straight.
*Soon, My love, I will send all those who destroyed our
happiness to hell and may they rot there for all of eternity.* The
thought brought anger to his mind and his muscles rippled as his body
tensed at the tidal wave that was his anger.
"For my second boon, my Lord, I ask that noone, he or she be a
God or a Goddess or an Ashura or a mortal or a spirit be able to kill
me."
Shiva nodded and granted the second wish.
*Just one more and we will have our revenge, Anita.*
"For my third boon, my Lord, I ask that I be granted power over
all living things and that I become the king of the Ashura's."
This time too Shiva complied though he knew the repurcussions
that this final boon would have on the world. He raised his hands and
power flowed from him into Raja Chola.
In the palace of Queen Serenity, the sleeping queen shifted in
her bed as the same nightmare played itself repeatedly in her mind.
Throughout the moon kingdom, every magician who had sufficient power had
the same nightmare, a nightmare in which the kingdom was destroyed and
the people slaughtered as though they were pack animals.
********************************************************* **************
Two years later...
In the plains of Mars....
Queen Serenity looked at the battle from her command post. She
chided herself for being a fool and for having let this much destruction
come upon her people. She shuddered unconsciously as the images from the
outer planets played themselves in her mind yet again. Scenes of wanton
destruction, rivers flowing crimson with blood, the blood of innocents,
people slaughtered by the thousands, their guts ripped apart in the best
cases. In the worst cases, they had been skinned alive and then parts of
their body eaten as they watched with their very own eyes by the hordes.
She suppressed another shudder as the death of Sailor Mars played itself
again in her mind. Her close friend and advisor had been raped,
sodomised and then skinned before being devoured alive by one of the
raiding monsters. She and the other Sailors had watched helpless unable
to help their friend as they themselves were fighting their own battles
praying that they would live through the day. By sheer luck, they had
managed to force the monsters into a retreat on that terrible day in the
plains of Saturn.
She clutched her fists in anger. She had failed her people. Her
kingdom was supposed to be one of peace and love but scarcely two
decades had passed since she had founded the kingdom and now they were
fighting a losing cause. The kingdom was done for she had realised that
much when Saturn had fallen. If her opponent could have been deemed
human or if it at the least had a shred of humanity in it she would had
given up her kingdom in the hopes of saving the lives of her people, but
her enemy was not. In fact, she had never seen the face of the enemy
leader. All that her forces had faced where those six-handed, human
lookalike monsters that ripped everything in their paths to shreds
moving at speeds that even the sailors found impossible to maintain for
long.
*Kami, What will happen to my people? Why didn't I realise the
serious nature of the threat when I first heard of it a year and a half
back?* As much as she thought that all would have been well if she had
responded correctly twenty months ago, a part of her mind knew that it
wouldnot have had the least effect on the outcome. She wiped out the
lone tear that had somehow found its way into her right cheek. She
wouldnot cry... She cannot cry... For the sake of her people she
shouldnot cry.
She pulled herself together and looked again at the scenes of
battle that was raging on a thousand yards from where she stood. She
could hear the chanting and could feel the huge collection of magical
energies that was taking place in the background. she hoped beyond hope
that this last gamble would work for the sake of all the people that
were her subjects. She hoped that she would succeed in this last gamble
so that her son, Freon, would live to have children of his own. she
hoped that she would succeed in last gamble for all the children that
were her subjects. Serenity, Queen of the newly found Silver Millennium
tightened her fists until she heard her knuckles pop. Then she took a
deep breath and walked to where the chanting was coming from.
She reached the site within a few minutes. !It will not be long
now. I can feel the energies gathering and soon we will be rid of this
threat and peace will reign once more.* Thought she as she looked about
the site. A hundred of the empire's strongest surviving magicians
herself included had gathered here to cast a spell that wound send the
enemy and his army into limbo. She sat down by the others and the others
shifted their position never stopping their chanting and gave her room
to join the circle. A few minutes passed and everyone stood up to cast
the spell. *Just two or three more minutes and the decisive moment will
upon all of ...*
Her thoughts were interrupted by a shriek to her left. She would
feel some of the magic going away and she realised that one of the
monsters was upon them. She focused on the Ginzishou and concentrated a
little bit harder to neutralize the loss. Shrieks began to increase in
frequency as one after another the magicians fell to the monster. Soon
she heard of the clashing of weapons and the ear-splitting bangs of
explosions as the lunar guard came to the rescue. However the damage had
been done. Her last gamble had failed and her people would perish. Just
when she had all but given into despair she felt a being of pure love
enter her mind.
*Who are you?*
*I am everything and nothing child. I here to comfort you. Do
not despair child for there is a way to defeat your enemy for now though
he will return in the future.*
*He will comeback and kill us all in the future then.* Replied
Serenity.
*No child, when the evil comes again we will be ready and it
will be defeated for ever.*
*Then tell me what I must do to defeat him now?*
*You will defeat him child but there will be price to pay, you
will die if you what I ask you to do.*
Serenity hesitated but for a moment.
*I will do whatever is necessary to save my people.* Though she
couldnot see her mind she realised that the being had nodded.
*Concentrate child, concentrate on yourself. Look deep inside of
you and tell me what you find.*
Serenity concentrated and looked into herself. she found a
throbbing mass of yellowish blue light. She realised it for what I was.
*I can see my soul.* Replied Serenity in awe. She had never realised
that she could she her own soul.
She again felt the being nod. !Good, now focus yourself onto the
Ginzishou and let the magic from all of nature flow through you.*
Serenity complied and immediately felt phenomenal amounts of
power coursing through the Ginzishou. she realised that she was being
used as the channel and that she wouldnot survive the process. She also
realised that the Ginzishou was acting as a reservoir until she demanded
that all the energy be released. She felt everything and nothing around
her. She felt the fear and the pain from her soldiers and those who
where dying or fighting for their lives. She felt the hate and the
thirst for destruction that clouded the mind of the monsters whom she
realised where Ashura's, the anti-Gods. She felt the love and peace and
the power that was the being and realised that it was God. Though she
felt her body weaken for being subjected to the huge amounts of energy
she felt strangely happy and content for the first time in her life.
The power grew until the Ginzishou was having trouble containing
it and then she willed it to do its job. The ground shook and wind rose
as the mana and the ki were released. She was at the epicenter of the
explosion of energy and with her as the center, the energy spread across
the cosmos sending into limbo all the Ashura's and their king.
Her ki and mana spent in trying to control the power and her body near
death due to channeling that much energy she collapsed in a heap onto
the floor. She could hear faint voices, which she deduced, was from
members of the lunar guard. She did not care however, for she was happy
as long as the Kami was by her side. She felt his soothing touch on her
mind ridding her body of its pain and she heard him whispering into her
ear.
*Sleep child, I will take care of you.*
And she slept.
