Ranma 1/2 Fan Fiction ❯ A Fighter's tournment ❯ AFTChXIV ( Chapter 14 )
Scene: Fight
The Tae Kwan Do mistress held out her paper, which had the word 'striker' and muttered, "Rats."
Knowing her talents, Rock and Ranma could understand her disappointment. Chae had so wanted to prove herself that she could fight with the best of them.
"Do not worry Chae. You will get your chance to prove yourself to the others." Ranma said. It was the only thing he could say. "I still have to do that as well."
Both Mignon and Rock nodded with serious looks on their faces.
"Thanks guys." Chae knew she had to be patient for her chance. She knew it would come up.
"Who goes first Rock?" Mignon asked.
"It depends on the Sakazakis and Robert Garcia making their decision on who goes first." Rock answered.
It was a packed house as all of the seats in the place were full due to the fans of KOF wanting to see the newcomer fight in the tournament. His defeating Yamazaki twice had just amped up the excitement for both the fighters and the fans. Most of the fans were beautiful girls who had some hearts in their eyes when they saw Ranma.
Almost all the fighters were there since they wanted to see what this new guy's got. I said almost all the fighters since Chin was still out from Mai's enraged attack and was still out like a light in the medical area.
Off to one side Ryo and his father, Takuma were arguing on who would fight Ranma.
"Father, I would like to fight Ranma Saotome." Ryo was saying.
"I know son but I sense a powerful energy inside of him. I want to see how powerful he is." Takuma answered.
Both Robert Garcia and Sakazaki daughter were sweat dropping at seeing the father and son argue. It had already been decided that Yuri would be the striker for their team. Yuri finally got tired of the two arguing.
"Why don't you two do 'Rock, scissors, paper' to decide who goes out first to fight Ranma?" Yuri asked.
"Good idea, Yuri." Robert Garcia was about to say that was a dumb idea when he caught the 'you better agree with me or face hell' look in Yuri's eyes. "Besides you two can't stay here and argue about it all day since the match starts in five minutes."
Both father and son look at each other and raise their fists.
"ROCK!"
"PAPER!"
"SCISSORS!"
When Ryo Sakazaki stepped out and gave the pigtailed man a stare everyone knew Ryo was looking to fight just one person from The Generations Team.
Ranma Saotome.
Breaking the staring contest Ranma glanced at Rock and nodded his head to the mat. Rock catching the unspoken question from Ranma nodded.
Ranma slowly walked up and bowed to Ryo. The bow was returned and the signal to begin was heard.
Not even a second had past as the two men engaged had leapt in the air each fighter launching a kick at the other. Both of them blocked the kick and landed on their feet on the mat. Darting on the ground to each other each of them launched punches that were dodged or blocked.
Backing away Ryo launched his Kohou Ken at Ranma. Ranma dived forward and down letting the short-range ki blast past over him. Ranma's right arm was in stretched full out in front of him. Seeing and thinking that Ranma had no defense Ryo rushed forward for a few free hits on Ranma. Ranma keeping his head up and watching Ryo rush forward knew he had to time this just right.
'Now!'
Ranma's right hand touched the ground and with that arm swung his body and his leg rocketed upwards to hit Ryo on the chin stunning him. As soon as Ranma's left arm touched the ground he swung around so he could see his opponent and sprung forward with his arms as his legs were outstretched hitting Ryo in the stomach. Ryo felt the kick in his stomach and managed to back away from Ranma. He rubbed his stomach surprised at the power Ranma had managed with that move.
++++++++++++
"What the heck? I thought Ryo had him for sure with that move. How in the world did Ranma manage to land those two kicks?" Joe asked Terry Bogard.
"That swinging kick was capoeira." Terry said amazed at what Ranma did. Terry saw a look on Ranma's face. 'I wonder what Ranma is going to do now. It looks like he saw something about Ryo's style.'
Everyone was surprised when Ranma suddenly shifted to another stance.
++++++++++++
Ranma had analyzed Ryo's hand-to-hand style and believed he had found a weakness to the Kyokugen Karate style. Now all he had to do was test it out with a style he had heavily modified. He had studied this style on his own because his former father said it was a weaklings' art and had come up with his own branch for this style.
Seeing Ranma standing there in a new stance Ryo studied it for a while. Ryo was puzzled for a while when Ranma made no move to attack but just stayed in that strange stance. Seeing that Ranma was not going to attack him Ryo brought himself close and threw a punch. It was a near perfect punch with Ryo leaving almost no holes in his defense.
The next thing Ryo knew he was lying on the ground 20 ft from Ranma. Shaking his head to clear the dizziness he saw Ranma had positioned himself in the same stance. Leaping up in the air he did a flying kick at Ranma.
Ranma brought both his hands up and caught Ryo's foot. Spinning Ryo's body in the air Ranma spun and delivered a kick with his right foot that sent Ryo rocketing off to the side.
'Just as I thought.'
+++++++++++++++
All the fighters were speechless as they saw Ranma effortlessly kick Ryo off to the side with no trouble. Every fighter including both teams were shocked to see Ranma to block Ryo's flying kick, then spin him in air, and then kick him to the side with such force.
In the minds of every one of the fighters was the question. 'How?'
+++++++++++++++
Ryo was hurting when he stood up. He clutched his left side as he stood up. That was the second time in a row that Ranma had stopped his attack with little effort and then sent him flying away.
Looking at Ranma and again seeing him in that same strange stance Ryo asked a question heard by all the fighters.
"How..." Ryo started to ask.
"...am I doing this?" Ranma finished the question. "The answer is simple Ryo-san. Your Kyokugen Karate style is an extremely hard style of martial arts. I am using a soft style I developed after I had studied it for a while. However I studied this style more than other people had since I felt it was incomplete."
"What is this style?" Ryo asked.
"Aikido." Ranma answered.
Ryo's eyes nearly bugged out of his head when he heard this. So did all the other fighters' eyes. "I've fought against masters who used aikido and never was I repelled like what you have done with me."
"It is true that aikido has its only strengths in its defensive attacks. I thought to myself this is weird. So I decided to experiment with the forms of the style and over time I developed my own style of an offensive aikido." Ranma explained.
"An offensive aikido style?" Ryo was amazed. He now recognized what Ranma had done when the pigtailed man had sent him flying away. Before he could do anything Ranma sprung forward with incredible speed and started focusing his attacks on Ryo's left side. Ranma's punches finally reached their target and Ryo was knocked unconscious.
Ranma had gotten his first victory in the KOF tournament. However using his modified offensive aikido with that flying kick Ryo had done had given Ranma a slight pain in his left hand when he had blocked the kick. He had underestimated the power behind the kick.
He signaled the next fighter and shook his left hand to get the pain out.
Ranma walked back to his team and signaled for the next fighter for his team to take over. His teammates were still in shock at the ease in which Ranma had defeated Ryo and the style he had used to do it with.
"I thought I had recognized a familiar stance but I was not to sure since it was to offensive to be that style." Mignon muttered.
"Aikido is supposed to be a non offensive art, mate." Rock was still a little shell-shocked at what happened. "But with what you did out there you clearly made it an offensive art."
"True Rock." Ranma said. The son younger Howard noticed Ranma shaking his left hand. "However it is not fully developed or perfected yet. Plus I'm sure Takuma-san noticed the weakness to it I've not fully overcome for it."
"Weakness?" Chae asked.
"It is weak to long range ki blasts. All Ryo had to do was a long range ki blast." Ranma informed his team.
+++++++++++++
"I can see why he used Aikido against Ryo." Takuma said. "Our family art is weak against it. However I did not expect an offensive variation of the style."
"It does not look like Ranma has fully perfected it though, Dad." Yuri said as she watched Ranma shake his left hand. They watched as Ranma signaled that he was switching out with a teammate.
"Still to recognize a weakness in the style from fighting it for just that short of a time is incredible." Robert said. His respect for the young man had risen.
+++++++++++++
"He used Aikido?" Joe asked with amazement. "Is that what he said?"
Every fighter heard Joe's question and nodded.
"Yes he did and I recognized some of the forms for Aikido that Ranma had used." Chizuru answered the kick boxer. "I did not think you could use them like that."
Even The Boss Team was in shock and they were standing close to the other fighters watching. The stood close to the other fighters to hear comments about the fighters in the ring.
"Even though he used it, it seems that Ranma has not fully perfected the style." Krauser pointed out as he saw Ranma shake his hand. Geese and the others nodded. Ranma had illustrated to him that a person can always modify a style and its forms to suit his or her needs.
By this time Athena and her team had moved close to The Women's Team. They heard Ranma's explanation and every fighter had resolved to be more careful in fighting the young man. They had one question on their minds.
"Mai, what did Chin do to make you so angry?" Athena asked. Bao and Kensou nodded in agreement to the girl's question.
