Key- Thinking / "Talking"
Chapter 1
Later the same evening, at dinner, Ranma and the Tendou Family are discussing the day's events when Ranma suddenly brings up his new problem, much to the chagrin of Akane. He then asks his living mates what he should do…
"Well," Nabiki chimes in, "I think you should let me auction you off to the highest bidder. I'd give you a little bit of the profit."
"No!" screams Akane at her sister while she feels her empty pockets.
Soun chimes in to Ranma's disbelief. "Why are you having a contest? Akane is your real fiancé anyway. I think any kind of contest or tournament is a ridicules idea in the first place…"
After this comment a large-scale argument occurs across the table, leaving out the two this situation really involves in the first place, being Ranma and Akane.
"That's it!" Ranma screams much to every ones surprise. "I am going to hold a regular plain old fighting tournament with the winner being the ultimate prize, being my fiancé.
"But that's crazy Ranma, why would you even do that?" Akane asks him with a sickened look on her face knowing she would probably have to face shampoo in the tournament.
"What's the matter, not secure in your own skills? I mean you're such a tomboy, how could anyone ever have a chance to beat you?" Ranma asks teasingly.
"Well, who the hell said I was even entering the tournament in the first place?!" Akane says back, now completely pissed off.
"I did!" screams her father.
"Dad, shut the hell up," says Akane as she kicks him right through the roof. Every one else leaves the room except for Ranma who just stares her back in the face.
"Akane, do you even understand why I picked a fighting tournament as the contest to decide who I go to? It is the best thing that you can do. I mean, what if I had picked a cooking contest to decide my fate? That's right, you would not have stood a chance, and you know it. So I picked a combat tournament so you would stand a chance and more than likely kick Shampoo's ass and win. But you have to have enough confidence in yourself to know that you can do it."
"Oh, Ranma," Akane calls out romantically as she runs into his arms. "I didn't know you felt this way about me. But if you care like this, why even have the tournament?"
"It's the only way," Ranma tells her sadly. I have so many fiancés that I basically have to find a way to get rid of all but one, all but you."
Ranma, I have something I really want to tell you but now is not the time for that. I'll tell you another time."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The next Saturday is like the start of a new life for Ranma. Before he even goes down to breakfast, he gets out a piece of paper and makes up a sign up sheet for the Ranma Invitational Tournament to be held three weeks to the day at the Tendou residence.
Down to Breakfast he comes in an overly cheery manner with the name list paper in his hands.
"What is that piece of paper?" Akane asks before Ranma even gets to the table.
"Oh, it's the place to put your name to enter my tournament. It's going to go on the front door of the dojo after breakfast. And then I'm going to Ukyou's and Shampoo's to spread the news. Do you want to come with me?"
Sure, but before breakfast is even served I'm going to sign up on that list," Akane says with a very romantic look on her face.
On the way out to see Shampoo and Ukyou to tell them the news, they post the list on the dojo's front door.
Ukyou restaurant was just a little bit away from the dojo and when they arrived she was cooking Okonomiyaki as usual.
"Hi Ranma!" she said as he entered the shop. "Oh, she's with you," she's with you was her words as Akane followed him. "So, what can I do for you Ranma? You guys want some Okonomiyaki?
"Thanks, but no," Ranma told her. "I brought some information that you might like to hear. Three weeks from today I am holding a little tournament. Anybody that wants to enter may do so…the prize is very simple. The winner gets to be my one and only fiancé."
"What an opportunity," says Ukyou looking at Akane. "I can beat her (points finger at Akane) and I can have my Ran-Chan a my own man, woman, uh thing…"
"What exactly makes you think you can beat me?" Akane asks her back.
Let's find out who's better right now and not wait for the tournament. That will put a little fear in you because you'll know I can beat you.
"Ladies, ladies" Ranma chips in. "There is one rule to the tournament as of now. Until I declare the tournament has begun, there will be no fighting from any of you. And if I do hear someone has been fighting, they will be disqualified and removed form the tournament."
"Fine," Ukyou says, with an upset attitude. I'll just show you in three weeks how good I am. Be prepared, Akane Tendou."
"You can bet I will be," she tells Ukyou. "But for now, we are leaving, Ranma."
"Alright," Ranma agrees and off they go to see Shampoo at the Cat Café. However, they both secretly know that Shampoo will more than likely be Akane's to competition in the tournament.
The Cat Café, and Shampoo's residence, is just a ways from Ukyou place. Shampoo and that old bag Cologne are having a discussion but stop when Ranma and Akane enter the room.
"Ninho, Ranma" Shampoo says, ignoring Akane completely.
"Hello, Shampoo. I bring you so news that I have a feeling you will like," Ranma tells the purple haired Chinese amazon that sits before him.
"If it's about the tournament that you are holding to decide who you one and only fiancé is, we already heard it from a customer earlier, a Miss Nabiki Tendou," Shampoo's grandmother, Cologne, tells them. "I think it is an amazing idea."
"Me will win tournament, and nothing you can do, Akane," Shampoo says to her and Ranma. "And then Ranma be married to Shampoo."
"Well," Ranma tells her. "We have to be going home cause it is getting kind of late and Akane has some training to do tonight. Oh, by the way, if you fight Akane or any other contestants before the tournament, you are disqualified. It is in three weeks. Bye, Shampoo."
This long day of seeing many people was coming to an end as the two walked back to the Tendou residence in a pretty good mood. However upon getting to the point away where they could read the list, this mood darkened. Underneath the name that stated Akane Tendou were two more names, which neither of the two could believe were on the list for the tournament.
"I can not believe this," Akane said. "Am I seeing things or is this true? Please read those names to me to make sure I'm not imagining it."
"You're not imaging anything, cause I see it too," he told her. "The two names under yours are Kasumi Tendou and Nabiki Tendou. I can't believe it."
