Brothers In Arms

Prologue: If ye want a war, a war ye shall have.

No one in the world really knew who started the war, they only knew
who took part in it.

The Global Liberation Army, who thought themselves as some kind of
saviors of the world, had been part of several terrorist acts across
the world. Many important power stations have been destroyed for their
cause, and also several different army bases have been taken over
across southeast-Europe and west-Asia.

The United States of America reacted to this world crisis by placing
several military divisions across the boarders of a few east-European
countries and some former Soviet countries such as Kazakhstan,
Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The American army received full cooperation and support from the
countries they defended.

After several years of skirmishes between the GLA and the U.S army
more European nations decided to become involved with the matter,
intent on stopping things from turning into an all out war. Therefore
Britain, France, Germany and Italy allied with the U.S.A to lower the
chaos in the world.

Even with the combined effort of the U.S and Europe's' greatest
countries, the menace called the GLA could not be put to stop. They
only kept advancing in their war efforts, despite the continuous
resistance from The Allies. Six months after the allegiance of Europe
and U.S.A, the GLA took over a military airfield near the Uzbek and
Kazakhstan border. Using the aviation firepower found at that base,
they sent several suicide squadrons at several military and
manufacturing industries in southern-Russia and western-China. Both
countries took heavy industrial casualties as well as loosing much
manpower.

Following this event, both the Republic of Russia and Socialist China
declared war on the Global Liberation Army. They collaborated with the
Allies, planning their war effort together. With the combined power of
the Allies, the former Soviet Army, and the Chinese Red Army, the GLA
were finally being pushed back. Nevertheless, because the actual
countries and world leaders involved with the GLA were unknown, the
commando army was never pushed back far.

In 2002, when the war had waged for almost two years, the Allies asked
several other nations for their support. Some of these nations
included Spain, Portugal, the Scandinavian countries, North and South
Korea, Japan, and the Oceania countries.

Portugal and Spain decided to stay neutral. Finland and Norway joined
the war effort, but Sweden and Denmark stayed out of it. All the
Oceania countries decided to support the Allies with military and
medical supplies. Both Korean countries joined the Allied countries.
Japan also, after much political debate, decided to support China in
this war.

Ranma Saotome sat in class, trying to ignore the teachers' continuous
droning. What he had on his mind at the moment was much more important
than some History lesson. Or at least that's what he thought it was.
He at the person that sat next to him, Ryoga Hibiki. Ryoga had a
thoughtful look on his face, and his eyes were visibly troubled.

What was on the boys' minds you ask? That's very simple. War. The two
young martial artists' minds were filled with thoughts of war. Ranma
had actually gone to the school library for a dictionary to find out
what war was. He knew what it was, of course, but he wanted to know
more about it.

"War is an open state of armed conflict, esp. between nations.
Whatever esp. stands for." Ranma remembered reading from a thick black
Japanese dictionary. Everyone at the library had given him shocked
looks when he had asked where they kept the dictionaries. Anyway, he
was absolutely positive now that in war, you kill a lot of people. He
knew this before, but it didn't seem to make sense. Killing each other
over something, anything, seemed extremely stupid to him.

School soon ended, and Ranma quickly pulled Ryoga outside by the arm,
not listening to his protest. In no time they were outside, and before
Ryoga could say anything, or bash his companion's head in, Ranma gave
him a serious look that instantly silenced him.

"Ryoga, we've got some serious stuff to talk about here." Ryoga
nodded, at his words. But gave a confusing look, not knowing what the
topic was.

Seeing that he had the bandanna clad boy's full attention, he spoke in
all seriousness. "Ryoga I've decided to go to war."

"WHAT!" Ryoga let out in shock. After a few seconds of that, he
started to rant. "Have you gone completely insane Ranma! Do you have
any idea what you're talking about?" After seeing Ranma nod, he kept
going.

"You're talking about going out there in the middle of nowhere and
getting yourself killed!" Ryoga practically screamed in his face.
After getting no real reaction from him, he kept going on about how
crazy his decision was.

Once he had no more breath left in his lungs, or was just plain
exhausted from shouting so much, Ranma took over.

"I've decided to do this Ryoga, because I want to know the purpose of
war. I want to... no I got to figure out why people kill each other
over what seems like nothing. Pops always tells me I got to become a
great martial artist, a man amongst men. Well I think if do this, if I
find what I'm looking for. I think I'll become a man amongst men." As
Ranma said this, his face didn't flicker one time. He didn't even
blink. And he didn't show any hesitation.

After taking in all of this, Ryoga thought for a while. As if all of a
sudden a light bulb appeared over his head, he asked Ranma a question.
"I understand. But why are you telling me this?"

At hearing this question, the pigtailed boy's face turned from a
serious one, to a one of mischief. "Just wanted to ask if you wanted
to go along for the ride. That's all. Whaddaya say man?"

"You're asking me to go to some senseless war and risk my life for for
some bullshit?" You could see anger, shock and horror on Ryoga's face.
But nevertheless he had a small grin on his face.

"Yup" Said Ranma, as if it were the simplest thing in the world.

Ryoga actually seemed as if he was thinking about it. Then his eyes
took on a determined look, and his lips formed a smirk. "What the hell
man, if you go, I go." He said with confidence. But his brain was
thinking otherwise. 'I'm really going to regret this. I just know I
am.'

Ranma now also had a smirk on his face, and then he let out a small
laugh. "Knew you'd see it my way pal." After that he let out a
full-blown laughter, as if what he said was something extremely funny.

After a moment, Ryoga also joined into the laughter, as if finally
understanding the joke.

The two boys stood there laughing for quite a while with determined
looks in their eyes.
