Chapter 2: All I Care About
I don't care about expensive things
Cashmere coats, diamond rings,
Don't mean a thing
All I care about is love
I stared in shock at the man before me. Just 24 hours earlier I had been wondering about this man and now, he was sitting in the chair, with his briefcase open and papers strewn over the table. Ranma Saotome? A LAWYER?!
"W-what are you doing here?" I managed to choke out.
Ranma stood up. He must have grown some more because I only reached the top of his broad chest. "I'm your lawyer. Honestly, Akane, you're still as clueless as you always were. And a tomboy. Still with the short hair, huh?" And oh yeah, his voice definitely got deeper.
Indignant, I snapped back, "Ranma, if this is a joke that you and Nabiki are playing on me, you two are gonna get it!"
"Get what?" Ranma leaned closer to me. I felt my heart pound faster. "Akane, I doubt you've been practicing any martial arts." He studied me. "Don't tell me you're afraid?" He chuckled.
"I am not!" Truly, I suddenly didn't care. All I knew was that Ranma was here. And he did look quite like a lawyer, from his tailored black Armani suit down to his shiny shoes. His hands were manicured and he smelled of some kind of cologne -- I wouldn't have recognized this person as Ranma had I not been thinking about Ranma Saotome since the day he left. And, he still had that characteristic pigtail of his. "It's just...I didn't think that law was your kind of field. If I knew you, you'd probably go into some kind of dangerous FBI job." If I knew him, he would have never given up on me.
As if reading my mind, Ranma replied, "If you knew me. But you haven't known me for six years, Akane. If I knew you, you would have never come to Chicago and gotten involved in this shit." His voice hardened. "Killed two men, huh?" He looked at me and it was as though his blue eyes were penetrating deep into me. "One of them was Ryoga, your husband," I flinched as he put the accent on the last word, "and the other one was Shinnosuke, one of many men that you slept with." I could hear the deep bitterness behind the words. "You got quite a reputation, Akane."
"Yeah, that's been my past six years of life. How about you, Ranma? Your life been as hectic and screwed up as mine? After you walked out on me, what did you go do? Find yourself another fiancée?" I could barely keep the rage from my voice. "Don't come here and start judging me! I may have killed two men but don't forget, you've killed too. Or maybe you forgot about Saffron and the little incident with me that happened afterwards? My life hasn't been as fortunate as yours!
I was breathing hard. I squirmed under Ranma's gaze. He didn't judge me. I was just imagining it because I was so angry at him for what he did to me. We stood there, just looking at each other for a long moment before Ranma finally said quietly, "Right. Nabiki and Kuno have already bailed you out. I've come here to pick you up. Let's go. I'm taking you to your apartment." He grabbed his briefcase and was about to exit when he noticed I wasn't moving. Impatient, he said, "Are you coming or not?'
"My apartment? I don't have one anymore, Ranma. Didn't you forget? I killed the person who owned it so the property reverts back to the bank." My voice was tight. Ranma looked at me before finally deciding, "Alright. Then we'll go to my hotel room. Is that fine with you?"
I nodded. "Good. I parked in the front. Matron Morton should have your stuff. Meet me in the parking lot." He strode out the door as I went to collect my things.
I certainly made no assumptions about Ranma's success as a lawyer, but when we finally arrived at his hotel, I truly understood his accomplishments. From his Armani suit and silver Lamborghini to the penthouse suite up in the Four Seasons, Ranma had really made it to the top of his profession. I stood there, gaping like an idiot until he interrupted my thoughts.
"Hey Akane, you wanna go wash up or somethin?" He pointed to his bedroom.
"Sure, why not." Who knew how bad I smelled after getting mixed up with those wild women. I walked to the bathroom and locked the door. I probably haven't had a decent shower in a few days. It felt good having the hot water stream down my body. When I finished, I toweled myself dry, got dressed and walked out. Ranma was sitting at the desk, reviewing a stack of papers. Curious, I walked over. "Are you looking at my case?"
"Yeah." I sat down on his bed. "How did Nabiki contact you so quickly? Were you down in Miami at the time?"
"Nabiki had a party," he said without looking up, "I just happened to be there when she came running out of the office screaming, 'Ranma you need to help Akane!'"
Convenience. She didn't bother to send me an invitation? "Why'd you take my case, Ranma?"
Now he looked up. "Akane you'll forever be needing help from someone. It's just like when we were in Nerima, you'd get in trouble and I'd help out."
"So why did you leave me?"
Something came over his eyes then. "It was for the best."
"For the best?!" I jumped up. "You thought it was for the best to just abandon me after you admitted you loved me? I was your fianc-!"
My words were cut off as Ranma suddenly crushed his lips against mine. Instinctively I began to push him away but he grabbed my arms tightly and kissed me harder. Suddenly he broke off and gasped, "Shut up, Akane. Just shut up." He pressed his lips to mine again and pushed me onto the bed. I could sense the burning urgency in him as he began to rip my clothes from me. But as much as I was mad at him, I wanted him too. Desperately. I helped him undress and we tossed our clothes aside carelessly.
I thought I didn't know real lovemaking until Shinnosuke came. But as Ranma was making love to me, I forgot all about Shinnosuke. Ranma possessed every inch of me. My body was on fire with his touch -- his fingers caressing me, teasing me; his mouth sucking, licking and kissing me. I could feel his hard muscles ripple as I gripped his back when he pounded into me over and over. I rocked my hips against him, being overwhelmed with pleasure as I felt his manhood slide deeper into me.
When it was over, Ranma collapsed on top of me and slid off, his warm breath tickling my neck. I rolled over, one leg draped across him so his manhood barely brushed my entrance. I grinned as Ranma brought his hand up to stroke up and down my ass and thigh.
"My God," I whispered, "where did you learn how to do that?"
Ranma laughed and I shivered as his hand ran up my thigh to rub my back. "It was 'cause of the person I was fucking." He lifted me by my hips and suddenly dropped me on top of him, his shaft sliding right into me. I gasped aloud with pleasure. His hands squeezed my ass as he shoved himself deep within me, our bodies rocking against each other with a wild fervor.
We made love until dawn and the sunlight illuminated the whole room. I rested my head on his toned chest, delighting in the feel of my fingers lightly tapping his rock-hard abs. It was as though my anger dissipated because Ranma gave me the greatest sexual experience I've ever had. However, I knew that I wasn't going to let him get off the hook by forgetting what he had done to me. Ranma was a lawyer now. He could have some inner slyness that wasn't existent back in Nerima. Did he screw me to get my mind off of what happened or was it just because...?
"What have you been doing these past six years?" I tightened my fingers on his wrist in case he decided to bail. Surprisingly, he didn't.
"Well after I left Nerima, I went back to Jusenkyo and got cured. After that, I left for the States at Nabiki's urging. With all of her money, she got me into Harvard. The rest I did myself. Holland & Brownstein accepted me and made me a partner last year. Now I live in New York. Two blocks away from Kasumi and Tofu."
Nabiki was willing to help out Ranma, but she never sent me a penny to help with her own family's problems? Furious, I threw the covers off and was about to get up but Ranma pulled me back.
"You're still mad because I left you, right?"
That, and a few other things. Like Nabiki. "You think Ranma?"
"Akane, I didn't leave you because I didn't want to marry you. I left because I figured that there was too much interference from everybody: your dad, mine, Shampoo, Ukyo, Ryoga." I heard a slight fluctuation in his voice. "I planned on going to get a decent job and then come back to get you."
"Horseshit. You said you were made a partner last year. If you were made a partner, you should be very successful. Why didn't you come back for me then?"
"You were gone."
"Could have done some digging. Goddammit Ranma, you're a fuckin lawyer! Don't you make a living out of digging up dirt on your opponents and then twisting it around in court so you can get your client acquitted? It would have been so easy to find out about me! If you live two blocks away from Kasumi, if you keep in contact with Nabiki 24/7, THEN GO AND FUCKIN ASK THEM!" I tried to pull my wrist from Ranma's grasp but I forgot about how strong he was. Effortlessly, he pulled my arm so that I fell back onto the bed and found Ranma's lips on mine.
"Then how about this," he breathed, "when I get you acquitted, marry me."
Winter break is coming up for me in a week so when it comes, I'll start updating faster. I hope. Stick with me here I'm having a brain fart!! thanks for reading
