"'See America!' he spat, 'Visit another country!'. Total bullshit!" Ranma shouted, as he sat on the curb.
"Please calm down Ranma. Im sure father meant well!"
Akane spoke up. "Kasumi's right Ranma. After all, with a name like 'Liberty City', anyone would be fooled."
A maniac in a blue sports car sped past them, nearly hitting Akane. It was followed by several police cars.
Their trip had been hell from day one. The lost luggage was a bad sign, but the fact that their hotel apparently had been burnt down years ago should have told Ranma, Akane, Kasumi, and Nabiki that something weird was going on. Since finding a place to stay, they had been robbed, assaulted, and shot at.
That was on a good day.
Ranma had gotten in good with one of the local gangs, the Diablos. He had KO'd a guy who had been running over several members. It was nice, because now the group wasnt shot at as often.
There was a long silence before anyone spoke. The sounds of sirens were heard everywhere, and the air smelled of oil and grease.
"Ranma, I want to go home." Akane said, tearfully.
"Dont start that again, you know we dont have any money. Kasumi is the only one with a steady job, but its not enough for 3 tickets to Japan."
Now right now, your probably thinking, "Wait, why only three?". Lets go into that, shall we?
It was about 4 AM the sixth day after the four of them had arrived. Nabiki was wandering the streets aimlessly, looking for someone to scam.
A man wearing rags, and smelling of alchohal approached her. "Hey baby, whaddaya charge?"
She pulled out some pictures. "5 bucks apeice."
The man looked confused, and decided to take a nap on the ground.
With a heavy sigh, she continued on her aimless journey.
Someone ran past her, and knocked her over. She stood up, brushed herself off, and shouted at the offender. He stopped. Slowly turned around, and pulled out an uzi from a pocket somewhere in his coat. "Care to repeat that, miss?"
Nabiki knew she had to act quickly. "I, uh, you see..."
"Shut your mouth! You talk too much!" He raised the uzi.
A thought came over her. 'Well, it might work'. She grabbed the bottom of her shirt, and lifted it up, giving the uzi-weilding psycho a good view of her tits. Unfortunately, her distraction didnt work very well, and he quickly regained his composure.
"Thanks for the view, bitch. You know, I like you. I dont think Ill kill you just yet. Ive got other plans for you." He reholstered his uzi, and grabbed Nabiki. He used her head to shatter the driver's side window of a nearby parked car. He opened the door and threw her into the passengers side seat. He finally got in and hotwired the car. The car sped off, and she hasnt been seen in four weeks.
Now back to the story.
"Kasumi, dont you need to be at your job soon?" Ranma chided.
"Oh my, yes. Ill see you two this afternoon!" She smiled and walked towards the hospital.
Akane sighed. "Whats wrong Akane?"
"Nothing, its just..." her voice trailed off. "Kasumi is making money, but its not enough. A nurses salary barely makes enough to feed the three of us. At this rate, well never get the money for 1 ticket home." (authors note: didnt i already go through this?)
Ranma looked at the smog-filled sky. "Ill see if I can find a job. You should do the same. And be careful who you talk to, remember what happened to... her." A taboo was forming around Nabiki's name. No one wanted to think they'd be returning without her.
"You go back to the apartment, Akane. Im gonna go find some work."
"Ok. Please be careful." This was one of the few times Akane showed she cared for him.
Akane and Ranma went their seperate ways. Akane headed towards Hepburn Heights, and Ranma went to the Red Light district.
As he was walking, looking for a help wanted sign, a shady guy in a trenchcoat and hat stepped out from the shadows. "Hey, kid, you lookin' fer work?"
Ranma stared for a moment, and nodded.
"I got some guys who been spyin on me lately. If you could take em out fer me, I'd pay quite well."
Something in Ranmas head told him to run, but he'd long learned to not listen to that voice. "Fine, Ill do it."
"Good, heres some pictures of the guys who I need ya ta do." He reached into a pocket and handed him some pictures. One of them was a man in a black leather jacket, and faded green cargo pants. The other was a man with an open black trenchcoat, wearing urban camoflauge pants, and a white wife-beater t-shirt.
"I hope ta see ya again, alive." The shady character walked away.
Ranma walked down towards Portland Harbor, studying the pictures. 'Where am I gonna find these two? This is a big city.'
He walked around for a long time, and finally ended up in Harwood.
He sat on a bench, and watched the cars go by for a few minutes. Then he saw a face he recognized in one of the cars. It was the man from the picture with the trenchcoat.
Ranma chased the car down a long, straight road, and caught onto the handle on the car door. He was about to get in, when he saw a pistol pointed to his head. Unknownst to the driver, the car had drifted into the wrong lane, and a firetruck was speeding towards them. Ranma saw it and bailed out.
There was an incredible crash, with metal chunks flying every direction imaginable. Ranma looked in horror. He ran off as sirens approached.
A bullet whizzed past his head, and he turned around. It was his other target.
Ranma jumped through the air, and quickly disarmed the offender. The man tried to punch Ranma, but this was Ranma's specialty. He punched 10 times in under a second, and the man fell to the ground. To Ranma, it looked like he was dead.
A voice spoke out above the sound of the ambulance. "Good job, kid. I saw everything."
Ranma jumped back, and did that thing with his fingers. "How did you get here so quickly?!"
"I have my ways. Heres your money." He handed Ranma a large stack of money. "If I need anymore jobs done, Ill call ya. Until then, we nevah met. Got it?"
Ranma didnt like what he had just done, but he had few other options. "Fine. Whats your name anyway?"
"Just call me Don. My last name aint important."
"Fine." He walked back to his apartment in Hepburn heights, silently.
Upon entering his home, he put the money on the table.
"Ranma, where did you get all that money?!" Akane was shocked.
"Dont ask about my job. Its not something I want anyone knowing I do." He said.
"Ranma..."
Elsewhere in the city, later that day.
"Im not happy," an old man scowled. "And when Salvatore is unhappy, people die. This punk punched you out. You! My best cleaner! And he put the other in the hostpital. I want him DEAD. But kill his friends first. I have sources that tell me he has a fiance and her sister somewhere in this city. Kill them! And make sure he sees it! Then kill him! We'll teach him to mess with me."
