Chapter 5: Lost Boy - Unmasked

-------------------------------

Morning broke silently. Sun filtered through the windows of the bedroom. A slim line of light his the sleeping faces of Kuno and Ryoga. Kuno still has his arm draped around the other boy. Only during the night, the other must have shifted. Ryoga was now using Kuno's chest as a pillow. There was a still a slight chill in the air. Birds were starting to wake up. Melodious chirping filled the room. In the distance, behind a gentle wind geese were migrating south. In the bed, a voice let the world know he was awake.

“Gaa!! What the Hell am I doing in your bed, Kuno?” Ryoga's voice shattered the gentile niceness of the morning. He sat up with all his might, pulling away from his comfortable position. He had been so close to Kuno. Almost too close. That closeness had all sorts of dirty thoughts running through his head.

“I had a nightmare, and you slept with me so that I would feel better.” Came Kuno's drowsy reply. “Now lie back down here and get some decent sleep. It's Saturday. We can do all that stuff later.” He rolled over and made room for Ryoga.

Ryoga sat next to him on the bed. “Now who's being lazy, Kuno.” He kidded. He was taken by surprise when Kuno grabbed him and pulled him down onto the bed. His decent as cushioned by Kuno's body. The bed sprung back, forcing their faces to meet. Their lips touch for a brief second. That's when they knew. Kuno welcomed the feeling, but Ryoga denied it vehemently.

The boy scrambled away from the bed as fast as he could. He wanted to get far away from Kuno and the feelings that being with the other boy had woken up. He rushed out of the room and down the stairs. There, he threw himself into working. Menial labor of carrying up chairs and setting them around the ball room cleared Ryoga's mind. He could think without having Kuno's presence fog it up. [I don't understand you, sometimes.] He told himself. [I thought you wanted to belong. To be loved.]

Ryoga slammed the last chair into place. “I do.” He whispered. “It's just--” [Just WHAT? Just that you don't think you're good enough? Hoping Ukyo will miraculously come back from the dead? Grow up! There's a man upstairs that loves you very much!]

“I know that!” The table was upstairs, as was the treasure chest and palm trees. “I don't want to hear this. Just go away.”

[I'm not going to until you realize that you love him back.] His inner voice countered. That's when Ryoga knew that it had won. He did love Kuno back. He loved Kuno more than the other boy would ever know. But that epiphany meant that he had to return back up stairs and tell the other boy that. He began to plan about how to do it while finishing setting up the room.

Upstairs, Kuno was trying not to cry. He had crossed the line. That kiss had been a mistake. He hadn't even planned it. Kuno almost wished he had though. He had liked the feel of his mouth touching Ryoga's. Judging by the sounds downstairs, Ryoga didn't.

[Maybe he's just mad because you forced him into something too quickly.] He rationalized. The thought that he had forced Ryoga to act before he was ready made Kuno feel unclean. Indirectly, he had unsuccessfully tried to seduce is guardian angel. He figured that his loneliness was a small price to pay for such a sin. But that still didn't help him shake the feelings of guilt.

Kuno dragged himself out of bed. The sounds down stairs had stopped. He didn't care. He had to re-purify himself from the sin he had committed. Shedding his cloths, he stepped into the shower. The water was warm, running down his lanky body. Kuno imagined that the water was actually Ryoga's fingers trailing down his body. It was a nice thought, except for the fact that it was turning him on. He could hear footsteps ascending the stairs. Kuno imagined that the object of his fantasy was actually coming to join him. An impossibility.

The door to the bathroom opened, sending steam everywhere. The steam parted to revile Ryoga. He stood looking straight at Kuno's naked form. Then he blushed very red. He had the yellow pages in his hands. There were giant black marks through every caterer in the area. “I just came in to say we're on or own with the food.”

“Is that all?” Kuno was surprised. Through this all, Ryoga's eyes had never strayed once. He almost wished that Ryoga's eyes would stray.

“That, and IloveyouKuno.” He forced the confession out. Then he just stood there with the stream swirling around him. Kuno just stared for a moment, digesting what he had just heard. Kuno stepped out of the shower. Water clung to his body, making him look like a water spirit.

Ryoga's confession was the only thing Kuno needed to release his inhibitions. Now, he knew that the other boy wouldn`t mind if he made a move. He pulled Ryoga over to him and they kissed again .The pair began a war of the tongues. He used his hands to brush through his partner's hair and gently massage him on his back. His hands on his partner's sides, he began removing Ryoga's shirt. Ryoga offered no resistance. Both were panting slightly. Kuno swept an appreciative gaze down the other boy's half dressed body. [Even nicer than I imagined. I can't wait to see it all.}

Ryoga stood there as well, looking. It was hard not to. He was in a shower with the most beautiful man he had ever seen. "I'm guessing neither of us has done this before," Ryoga panted. "Well, there's a first time for everything.” In one heave, he picked the taller boy up and took him to the bedroom. Placing Kuno firmly on the mattress, they started to continued where they left off. The doorbell rung. Ryoga was off of Kuno, redressed, and out of the room in record time.

“Oh, for the love of God!!” Kuno yelled in frustration. “Every damned time I'm about to get somewhere with you something gets in my way!” He quickly returned to the shower. He made sure to only turn on the cold spiket. Standing under the icy spray help him out quite a bit. Once he had frozen his raging hormones, Kuno dressed and joined Ryoga down stairs. On his way down, he paused to look at the ballroom. Ryoga had transformed it into something amazing. And he had done it all by himself.

When he arrived on the first floor, Ryoga was still standing in the doorway. He was motionless. The stocky boy's body was so rigid, birds could have nested on his head. He had a sheet of paper clutched in his hand. The hand was the only thing moving. It was starting to shake in anger. “Ryoga, who was at the door?” Kuno ventured to ask.

Ryoga turned to look at him. His eyes were bleak. He had a very frightening look on his face. It was the look from the night he had come to the house. The look he had given the gang members. The look spoke of unpleasant deaths the boy would soon be distributing. “It's nothing.” Ryoga voice was in monotone. “Absolutely nothing.” The paper in his hand crumpled as he said that. That's when Kuno knew he was going to have to start all over again. If it was possible, Ryoga seemed more distant than before. This annoyed Kuno to no extent.
Ryoga walked past Kuno and into the kitchen. There he lit a match. He smiled grimly, as the paper in his hands burned. “I'm going to send you to Hell too, just like your little threat, Tarou.” He hissed. Ryoga didn't want Kuno to know what had interrupted them. It would upset the other boy. It had been another random threat from Tarou. This one more serous than the last. It was actually on paper this time. And not just any paper. It was on an old newspaper clipping from when the gang riots had occurred. The names of the deceased in that incident were listed on that page. Ukyo's name was circled in red ink. On the bottom, two more names had been added. Kuno's and his had joined the list. In the corner it had said, “Lost Boy. You and your new friend won't live to see November.” It was not signed. It didn't need to be. Ryoga knew who had sent it.

When he was sure the note had been burned to a crisp, he rejoined Kuno. The other boy sat in the parlor. He was hovering over a menu he'd created. It seemed Ryoga wasn't the only one who worked when he was upset over something. The dishes comprised of just about anything that could be ordered in Take Out. Kuno had brochures from places Ryoga had never even heard of. Several dishes were highlighted for a place called The Nekohauten. Then there was one for a French place he couldn't even begin to pronounce.
Ryoga read over Kuno's shoulder as he worked.

Kuno spoke to him without looking up. “This is our last day. Tomorrow is it. We've got everything now, except for a small detail. Guests. I got the list right here.” he reached back with a sheet of paper, still not looking at Ryoga. He was upset that the other boy was trying to keep a secret from him. “What you are going to do is write down their names, and then the theme. Then put down a time of 8:30 p.m. That's it.”

Ryoga grunted as he took the paper. He sat down and started as well. Kuno finished with his menus and his calls to the restaurants. Delivery was scheduled for 7:00. That way, all of it would still be warm with the guests arrived. He joined Ryoga and finished the letters. He kept hoping there would be a significant look or a gesture that said that Ryoga was still obtainable without having to redo everything. Nothing showed.

The invitations done, Kuno picked them up and started for the door. Ryoga stood to join him. “Wait here. I'm not going to be long. I just have to deliver these.” Ryoga kept right on going.

“The only way you are going out that door is if I'm going with you.” He said, almost baring the door. Kuno shook his head. Ryoga knew he didn't understand. Somewhere outside, there was a very irate gang leader with a thirst for Kuno's blood. His own as well. But that psycho would be less likely to strike if they were together.

Kuno didn't know what to make of this gesture. He knew that whatever Ryoga had received was very distressing, and Ryoga was only trying to protect him. But if the boy was trying to do such a thing, that meant that he had feeling for Kuno. [I still have a chance!] He cheered, inwardly. “Okay, fine.”

They cruised around Kuno's neighborhood. It was exactly how Ryoga remembered it. The big houses and expensive cars. Everything clean and nice. He was very glad he was here now, with Kuno. He never wanted to go back to where he had come from, only nights earlier. From the passenger seat, he was able to see the people without them seeing him. He recognized the Tendo Patriarch and his daughter. Even from the car he could hear Soun saying something about Kuno marrying one of his perfect little angels. Ryoga almost wanted to stick his head out the window and yell back. Instead he yelled what he wanted to say in his head. [If anyone had a chance to marry Kuno, it'll be me.} The idea of a wedding struck his as funny. He could picture Kuno in a blue suit. He would be in black, with his bandana still sitting on his forehead. The priest would look at them and then say “I now pronounce you Husband and--- Husband.”

He smiled as Kuno entered the car. [Stranger things HAVE happened.] Thankfully, the Tendo household was the last stop. Upon returning home, Ryoga did a very quick search of the entire grounds before locking the door. He went up stairs and came back down with a lead of blankets. Kuno just looked at him.
“Not sleeping in room, sleeping out here.” Ryoga got out before he forced himself into sleep. Kuno wanted to wake him up. He wanted to yell at Ryoga. He wanted to beat the truth from him. His thoughts of violence started to subside. He wanted to kiss Ryoga, and hold him. Emotions in turmoil, Kuno followed Ryoga's lead. The house was plunged into darkness. Somewhere in the distance a dog barked.

The dog was still barking with the morning. And when the morning, came new fears. Ryoga jumped off the couch so quickly that he was forced to sit back down. He checked on the door, it was still locked. He continued up the stairs. Nothing amiss there either. Kuno's room yielded the same results. Nothing had happened during the night. Tarou's threat had one last day to play out. Confident that they would survive this, Ryoga crawled into beg with Kuno. He was asleep in seconds.

Kuno felt the bed sink lower with added weight. He remained still. The light breathing sounds could only mean one thing. Ryoga had returned to this bed to sleep. Kuno could barely restrain himself. He had the handsome man lying next to him, totally unaware that anything was going to happen. It would have been so easy to just kiss the man while he was sleeping and hold him without his knowledge. “I won't.” Kuno told himself. “I will not chase him away again.” Kuno made sure his back was squarely to Ryoga before, returning to sleep.

He dreamt of spring. The rain had just fallen and it clung to everything. There was a trace of a rainbow in the background. He was sitting on a checkered blanket. There was food all around. It was a picnic. He was waiting for something. Then he saw what. Ryoga appeared almost as he had when he had walked into the bathroom. His shirt was damp from the rain, and it was hanging unbuttoned. He ran up to Kuno, tackling him. The smaller boy planted a passionate kiss. To Kuno's unhappiness, he realized he was waking up. But the pressure on his lips remained.

Ryoga woke a bit later in the afternoon. Kuno was still lying beside him. He looked at the clock. It was blinking. That indicated that sometime during the morning the power had gone off. That made Ryoga wonder what time it actually was. But the world outside, it looked to be edging closer to evening. [Can't be. We just didn't sleep all day, did we?] He decided to wake Kuno up. Turning the boy, Ryoga planted a small kiss to the other boys lips. Kuno started awake. He smiled up at the other boy. It was rare for reality to start were a dream stopped off.

The doorbell rung. He heard Kuno's bleary voice under him. “I'm going to disconnect that fool bell.” Kuno stood from the bed and glanced out the window.

“Not if I get to it first.” Came the jolly reply. Ryoga was mystified as Kuno turned and looked at the clock frantically.

“What time is it? Why are the delivery people here?” Ryoga started to panic a bit as well. They had slept in the entire day. It had been pleasant sharing the same bed, and he really didn't want to ever leave the covers. But, he had too. They hastily got dressed.

This time, Kuno answered the door in costume. He held his odd top hat under one arm as he paid for all the take out. Ryoga stood right behind him, still trying to lean how to walk in the tight leather pants. The deliveries taken care of, they rushed up stairs. Food was placed haphazardly on tables. Drinks were thrown into the treasure chest that doubled as a cooler. Ryoga was dumping the last of the ice in when the first guests arrived. He remained upstairs, tending to things.

By the time the full party was in swing, Ryoga noticed that many people invited didn't attend. Kuno busied himself with hobnobbing. In a dark corner, Ryoga was starting to feel left out. No one bothered him over there. He watched Kuno, contentedly. Even looking as ridiculous as he did in the tasteless polyester suit that was say too small, Kuno had Ryoga's full attention. That's why he didn't realize that one of the Tendo girls was talking to him. Then, all three of them were, completely cutting his view of Kuno. They assaulted him with questions and bombarded him with flattery.

“Hey aren't you Kuno-baby's servant?” Nabiki asked, standing before him as a salesman straight from the roaring twenties. Ryoga shook his head in agreement. “He treats you well, because he invited you to this. Don't you know. Only the elite come.”

“So what are YOU doing here?” Akane interjected. “And what is that you're wearing?” Her face was almost pinched in anger. She flaunted her body in her outfit. In was the spandex suit of a gymnast, and she had a little pig nose on her face. She even come complete with a brick.

“I'm here because he needs me!” Ryoga answered hotly. “You're one to talk.“ he muttered before informing her that he was Peter Pan.

Kasumi stood before him. She was obviously Juliet. “Oh, but you just look too adorable in that. Where did you come up with the idea? Would you like to dance?”

Ryoga stared at the oldest, mystified. he allowed himself to be dragged out onto the floor. The other daughters were gaping at Kasumi. Soun was livid. Ryoga went thought the motions as best as he could. But everyone in the room could tell that the boy had never danced in his life. Everyone, including a very jealous Kuno.

He had kept an eye on Ryoga. He had even pointed him out to some people. But he had introduced the shorter boy as a close, personal friend instead of a servant. He had wanted to go and save Ryoga from the Tendo girls. But Soun had found something to drag him away. He had gotten out of that one to run into Dr. Tofu. The doctor still wore his doctor uniform. “So I see the boy is doing better.”

“Yes much. Thanks to you, Tofu.” He trailed off when he saw Kasumi dragging Ryoga out onto the floor. In his mind he protested, [What are you doing, Kasumi. Making my Ryoga dance with you! Poor guy can't even dance. You're humiliating him.] But he continued his talk with Tofu. “He's been a handful. He's very energetic. You know, he moved all the stuff in here by himself.” Kuno watching the dancing. Kasumi had her head resting lightly on Ryoga's shoulder. She clutched him closer, until there was no light between their bodies. Ryoga had a very odd look on his face. It was almost a look of panic.

“He must be a pretty remarkable guy.” Tofu was fishing for something. He could tell that Kuno was more interested with the other boy's movements on the dance floor than the conversation.

[Damn it, Ryoga. How could you let her touch you? Leave my handsome Ryoga alone, you---you. Oh I don't care.] His mind yelled at the dancing couple. “Yes he is, indeed.” The music stopped. Kasumi looked at Ryoga and her face inched closer. [Don't you dare!!]

“Attention please!” Kuno smiled when his announcement caused the eldest Tendo girl look up at him unhappily. [That takes care of YOU!] “It's time to play our little game.” Kuno gave the group the rules and then pulled off his hat. Slips of paper were pulled out. “Who's It?” seemed to be the question of the hour. Tofu slowly raised his hand.

He counted off as the guests scatted. Ryoga dashed out of the ballroom as quickly as possible. For a short time he was followed by Kasumi. She stopped following after a while and hid in her own place. Kuno waited, and then followed. He tailed Ryoga into one of the rooms. There the boy had disappeared. Kuno looked the room over. [If I was Ryoga where would I hide?] He asked silently. He came up with only one solution. Swinging the door open, he saw Ryoga crouched in a fetal position, trying to make himself as small as possible. “Good hiding place, mind if I share?”

Ryoga looked up, and sighed in relief. “Sure Kuno. There more than enough room. For a second I though you were that horrid Kasumi girl.” Ryoga watched Kuno climb into the hiding place. Then they shifted about in the dimness created by not being able to shut the door all the way. .

“So what did she talk about?” Kuno was dying to know. He wanted to know if his jealously was warranted. Unfortunately it was.

“The sister decided that Nabiki is going to marry you. And she thought I look so cute, that she wanted to marry me. Right now. As in elope. She was even suggesting places to do it and not get caught. Only it's not going to happen.”

Kuno relaxed. Ryoga was just to handsome for his own good. He bit the other boy had no idea how hot he really was. He forced himself to pay strict attention to what Ryoga was saying. “Because I was hoping that you would follow me in here. Now that I have you here, there is no doorbell in the world that's going to stop me.” He began his assault by rubbing Kuno's chest with his hands, pushing off layer after layer of Mad Hatter costume. It was an agonizing process, but is was worth the effort to get to Kuno's chest From there more cloths were lost. Cramped quarters meant noting to them. The only thing that matter was to get to what lay beneath polyester and leather.

He used slow circles and paid special attention to two erect nipples. As the massage continued, Ryoga got lower and lower on Kuno's body. He eyed the place he had stopped for a moment. Kuno's good-sized manhood was erect and was getting warmer by the second. Ryoga looked down at his friend and his love. Kuno shook his head in consent. Ryoga started by gently stroking the penis with his hands. He got several moans from Kuno in return.

He picked up the pace by pumping him a little bit. This elicited several more moans. Wanting to see how many sounds he could get from Kuno, Ryoga went down on him. He sucked, licked, and gently bit along its length. Throaty moans could be heard from Kuno, as he tried to keep it quiet. Ryoga used his hands to caress his partner's butt gently. All the while he kept sucking faster and deeper. Every thrust was matched by Kuno's hips, and would earn him a strained cry from his friend.

"Ryoga..." Kuno forgot to be quiet. "Faster, please....ah! Please don't stop... I'm going to..." Ryoga realized what was going to happen. He let the cum shoot into his mouth. Kuno's hot flesh jolted several times, and Ryoga had to work at keeping control. When it was over, the other boy let out a long sigh.

After a moment's rest, Kuno took the initiative, and starting kissing Ryoga on the neck and all down his shoulders. He stopped a few times to nibble on his ears. While he was doing this, he lightly fondled Ryoga's manhood. The other boy was already very aroused. Kuno could feel the burning heat pressing against him. He kissed Ryoga passionately on the mouth a few more times before returning to a more sensitive area. But first, he again stopped to look looked at the gorgeous man in front of him. As if by staring, he could keep that image of a sweaty Ryoga forever.

"Let's see if I can do the same..." He began by slowing licking the penis from tip to bottom. He coated the entire organ in his saliva. Ryoga was now lying back with his olive eyes shut, just enjoying the sensations. Kuno put the tip inside his mouth, and then went down as far as he could go. A deep moan escaped from Ryoga's lips. Kuno used his tongue playfully while going up and down on him, which gave the other boy added pleasure. He picked up the pace a little, and rubbed the inner thighs of his smaller partner. Ryoga couldn't help but lift his hips off the bed to try and immerse himself in the feelings he was getting. He could feel a building sensation inside him. The pleasure became more frequent and it gained in strength.

There were no words before Ryoga jerked and felt like a flood was being released from him. He closed his eyes, and started to softly breathe. Kuno put this head on Ryoga`s chest. Ryoga hugged Kuno to his sweat slicked body. “I love you, Kuno. I love you so very much.” Just then the door chose to open.

The two boys stared at Tofu. There was a very embarrassed silence. Then Tofu spoke up. “I see you two have been busy.” He took a doctor like attitude to the whole situation, ignoring the blushing Ryoga and the betrayed look on Kuno's face. “How long has this been going on?” No answer. Just heavy breathing. “Not very long then. I don't know what to tell you, actually. I'm glad for you.” He stood up and started to leave. “Oh, by the way, tag you've been caught. And make sure you have all your cloths on before you return to the ball.” Then Tofu was gone, hollering down the hall, “Ready or not, here I come.”

They hurriedly redressed. Kuno kept missing buttons, and Ryoga almost forgot to zip his pants. They returned to the dance. The other people caught looked at them. The looks said “sorry you were caught. Come join the rest of us at the table forever and ever.” The blushed couple obliged. Soon more people started showing up. The two didn't notice. They were too busy staring at each other, amazed by what had occurred. They wanted to see if the other was starting to have regrets. It seemed that neither did. Tofu arrived in the ballroom with the last person. He won the game.

[So did I.] Ryoga thought. [I've got Kuno now. And I've beaten Tarou too. It's almost November. We've made it.] He clutched Kuno's hand under the table. His other hand lightly stroked the fabric of Kuno's pant leg. They remained that way until the party was over.

Kuno tried to be polite when ushering the guests out, but he kept looking over into the parlor. Ryoga was sprawled on the couch in a come hither pose. he wanted to rush them all out so that he could have Ryoga all to himself. He smiled at Ryoga. Ryoga smiled back. He winked when Tofu walked by. Tofu winked back. The last visitor gone, Kuno hastily slammed the door and vaulted over to the seat.

Kuno sat draped on Ryoga's lap. The other boy held him firmly. Leaning his head down, they kissed one more, their tongues battling for supremacy. Outside, the lights of a car start going by. The lights seemed to stop in mid-turn. Suddenly the air was filled with the sound of gunshots. Ryoga grabbed Kuno and flung him to the ground. The lay on him and prayed that it would be over soon. There was a sound of squealing tries, and the lights of the car disappeared.

Ryoga sprung to his feet. Like Kuno, he was shaking all over. He could tell that Kuno was afraid. Ryoga didn't blame him. He would have been scared too, if he hadn't been so angry. He let the rage well up inside him until it started to rip out from him. With it in such loose grip, Ryoga stalked towards the front door.

He stopped before he got three steps. Kuno's shaking hand tightened on his wrists. “I don't know what the hell that was, but I have a feeling you do. I don't want you going out there tonight and doing something stupid. I'm fine, and you're okay. What's more, I love you, Ryoga. And I'm not letting you go out that door.” Kuno stood in the other boy's way. Ryoga was still moving.

“Then stop me.” His voice was colder than it had ever been. It took all of Kuno's courage to kiss Ryoga. It was a very cold kiss. But towards the end it had warmed up quite a bit. Ryoga pushed Kuno away. He put on a very determined face.

Kuno started to protest again “Don't. We'll just leave. We own a private beach house. No one but my father and myself know where it is. We can just live there. I'd go anywhere if its' keep you from something that might--- that might.” Kuno could bring himself to say “kill you.”

Ryoga turned to look straight at Kuno. “I'm not running away from him. I won't just stand here and let people like him threaten your life. I won't let fear of him run your life either.” Ryoga was surprised when Kuno didn't protest. [Or mine.] he added silently. “This ends tonight. Then I'll come back.”

“What if you don't” Kuno couldn't help but ask.

“Then I don't” Ryoga slammed the door violently on his way out.

Kuno ran to the window to watch the boy vanish into the night. [He never said goodbye.] He didn't want to feel the aching in his chest. He thought before he detached himself from his feelings. He thought he heard someone crying.
