Men and Kittens
Chapter 2
By: Iron Dragoon

"Hurry up Pop! The guide said this is the closest place for supplies!"
*And the closest place for her to go...*

The Panda just glared at Ranma. "And they might know something about the curse.." he added with a roll of his eyes.
*************************************

She sat hunched over in shame as her parents talked. "I can't believe the curses are real! What are we going to do? You know what will happen when we get back! She'll be stoned on the streets!" heatedly said her father.

"I know honey! But what can we do? Her change is permanent! We can't just abandon her here! She's my baby, I won't allow that!" said her mother.

"Hmm... I don't know.. Maybe we can move to one of those weird districts... Jubann or Tomabiki.."

"Nerima! My brother lives in Nerima!"

"Perfect! Ranko will be near her cousins and has a chance of being accepted!" said her father excitedly. Sometimes, being able to hear whispering through a wall sucked.

"Great, that's one problem solved. I just hope nothing else happens..." Sometimes, it really sucked.
***************************

"Come to see your cousin compete, Ranko? Or join in yourself?"

"Just watching cousin Mousse, elder," she replied with a bow.

"Oh child, no need to be formal! Today is a day of celebration! And please, call me Kuh Lon!"

"Thank you, Kuh Lon. I'm just not feeling well is all."

The old woman stared at her intently, studying the haunted look in her eyes and the tension in her body. "Child, I know the change is difficult to deal with, but it could have been worse.."

"How?" She asked simply.

"Well... There is a Spring of Drowned Purple Evil with Tentacles."

She received an odd look from the young girl.

"We haven't figured it out yet. It seems to lure people with songs of friendship and love... And then, well, I suppose it has tentacles for a reason.."

"....Ewww..."
********************

"Goodnight, daughter."

"Night, Mom."

"Don't worry Ko-chan. We'll deal with things as they come."

Ranko watched as her mother walked to the door of her small room. "Mom.."

"Yes dear?"

".... Nothing. Goodnight."

"Ranko, if you need to talk about something, just remember, I'm your mother, and I love you."

Ranko watched as her mother left the room and stared at the door, memorizing every detail of it in the pitch black room before realizing what she was doing. Her mind faded into sleep as her eyes teared up.
********************************

"Ranko, are you okay? You seem.. tense this morning."

"Fine Mom. It's just the water.. It makes me kind of nervous.."

"I understand Ko-chan."

They continued to make breakfast in silence, each thinking about the problems presented to them.

"Mother.. I need to talk to you about something..."

*Mother? Oh no, this is serious.. What ELSE is going to happen now?* thought her mother. "Yes dear? What is it?"

"Mom, you have to promise to tell dad about this! Not until I figure it out myself!"

"... I.. Promise Ranko. Now, what is it?"

Ranko took a deep breath. This was going to be rough.. "Mom, yesterday when I was at the spring, a... Boy saved me. I was drowning in the spring and he pulled me out.."

*A.. Boy? Ooo shit.. I hope this isn't going where I think it is..*

"Well, after he pulled me out, I.. Kind of lost it.. I started crying and everything.."

"Ranko, you shouldn't be so worried about that! I'm sure he understands, you needn't be embarrassed!"
*Whew! Thank god she just embarrassed herself!*

"That's not it.. Well, it is, but not what I mean. You see, after he pulled me out, and older man hit him, his father I guess, and it knocked me back into the spring.. Well, I kind of went into shock after that.. I remember a bit, but it's still kind of fuzzy.." At this point, she started to fidget.

"Mom, the boy started acting weird... He dropped on his hands and feet and started acting like a cat! He was meowing and everything!"

"You didn't hurt him, did you?" asked her mother worriedly. *She never did react well to teasing.. All those complaints during that Tomboy incident..*

"NO! It didn't scare me, but like I said, I was in shock.. It's like.. My body took over.. I started.. acting like a cat too.."

Her mother tensed up. This couldn't be good. "So, what happened?"

"Well.. We.. acted like.. um.. er.. alley cats?" she finished weakly.

"Alley cats?" Then, her mother's mind went ballistic.
*SHE DID! With some boy she doesn't know! And we have no way of finding him! What if he had some backwater disease?! WHAT IF SHE'S PREGNANT?!?!*
"Okay. Okay.. Stay calm Ranko. First we have to get you home. Then, we have to get you tested. Then we need to hide you from your father.."

"Whys that? What's my little terror done now?"

Then, the world went silent as it had a heart attack.
*******************************

Birds took flight, deer ran, squirrels hid in their trees, and pottery in the village shattered. All at the booming pisstivity of one man.

"WHAT THE FUCK?! I'LL KILL HIM! I'LL RIP HIS NUTS OFF AND CRUSH HIS SKULL!"

"Honey! Calm down! We can deal with this!"

"*I* will deal with this. And I'll deal with you, DAUGHTER, when we get home."

Neither Ranko or her mother liked the way her father said 'daughter.'
********************

"Well Mrs. Tendo, Ranko, the tests show negative for diseases."

"Thank heaven! That's wonderful news! Thank you for your time, doctor. We must leave to tell my husband the good news." Gathering her purse, and daughter, Mrs. Tendo made a bee line for the door.

"However," she stopped dead in her tracks. "The other test came up positive."

"The.. Other test?"

"Yes. Congratulations Ranko. You're going to be a mother."

"W-what?" stammered the new mother-to-be.

"You're going to be a mother. And I believe your baby will share your.. Unique attributes as well."

Ranko stared at him blankly as her mind raced. *M-mother? B-baby? My baby is going to l-look like me?*

"R-Ranko.. Are you alright?" asked her mother as Ranko crashed into her, hugging her as if she were a life preserver.

"I-I don't know. Is.. Is my baby going to be... human mom?" she asked wide eyed and woodenly.

"... It doesn't matter, Ranko. It will be your child and my grandchild," replied her mother in a firm voice.

Ranko stared at her mother in silent awe, then started to quietly cry.
"I love you mom."

"I love you too, my Ko-chan."
