warning: This is going to get real dark, real fast.
quick note: Im so incredibly sorry to the admins, pansies, and little kids who read this fic when it said it had a "G" rating even though it was patently "R", and I have no idea how that came about
extreme thanks to one reviewer who reviewed this before it had to be reposted: Thanks for the advice! I love feedback of every sort except for ones that give me no advice or positive comments.
Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo were scheduled to be married. This was never a problem, since they had been so for close to a year, but now was slightly different. The way in which it was different was simple yet fundamental. This was that Ranma and Akane no longer had a problem with the marriage arrangements. In fact, they now (openly) wanted it to occur.
Make no mistake, they had always been eyeing each other. They had their little crushes, sometimes on each other, sometimes on others, but the pervading feeling never left. Ranma liked Shampoo and Ukyo, but it was as friends. As for Kodachi, the thought of him being with that lunatic made him gag. Ranma really did like Akane. Of course, he was never at all in touch with his feelings and also had a creeping suspicion that Akane would mallet him all the way to England if he revealed his feelings. What he had never quite realized was that Akane had felt the same way.
He didn't learn that until after he saved her life during the Saffron fight. For all her mallet-weilding and hateful remarks, she really did have feelings for him. They agreed soon afterward that they should follow their respective fathers' wishes and marry. Their fathers had, naturally, been extremely happy and went on the largest drinking binge Ranma had ever had the misfortune to witness. The date of the wedding had not been set, but everyone knew it was going to happen.
For once, Ranma was as happy as it was possible to be. Having finally realized that they had no chance, both Ranma's and Akane's suitors and "fiancees" had given up and left them alone. Shampoo had (or at least, said she was going to) go back to China. Akane found out about Ryoga's little pig problem, and he left in disgrace. Kuno had never given up, but he was just so far below either Ranma or Akane's skill level that he did not even matter to them. The same was true of Kodachi. Ukyo had disappeared off the face of the Earth sometime after the Saffron fight. Ranma was slightly worried about her, but figured she could take care of herself. This meant that Ranma and Akane had plenty of time to themselves. Despite their mutual desire to save it for after they were married, they slept together for the first time.
note: I refuse to write lemons, and yes, i know, useless trivial information with no bearing on the story, it will come into play later on, trust me.)
As Ranma lay next to Akane, his mind was in total bliss. He looked at her in the moonlight and muttered to himself.perfect... and she's mine." His lips grazed hers, and for the first time in Ranma's life, things were going his way.
What he didn't know, could not know, was that another presence was watching him. Had always been watching him. Watching and waiting. It had watched Ranma's little accident at Jusenkyo, it had watched the first meeting of Ranma and Akane. It had watched every little fight of Ranma's daily life. Ranma never felt the presence, never suspected its existence.
weaks later...
Ranma awoke. It was supposed to be just another day. He was as happy as he had ever been. He woke up, brushed his teeth, did all the usual morning things, and went downstairs for breakfast. Akane had been working on her cooking and was now actually quite good at it. She wasn't up to Kasumi's standards but her food was now edible. Ranma didn't particularly care, as long as he could eat.
It was summer break, so there was really nothing he needed to do. Akane sent him up the street to buy groceries, while she went in the other direction for some other errand. Ranma was about to leave, when he was struck with an indescribable urge to kiss her. He kissed her tenderly, then left. She left soon after him.
Ranma's mind was in the gutter as he walked silently to the store and bought a few various things. Nothing could have changed his mood today. He wouldn't even skip a beat if every one of both his own and Akane's fiancees attacked him at once. He was just in that good a mood.
Akane, meanwhile, had completely forgotten where she wa supposed to be going. She knew that she forgot things rather often, but this she should have remembered. Shaking her head and berating herself, she kept right on walking. She wasn't thinking about anything, just enjoying the day. As she looked up from the street where she had been staring, she realized that she was in a completely different area of Tokyo than she wanted to be in.
"Fuck" she murmurred softly, she turned around and realized she had no idea where she was. She took a step, and heard a rustling from an alley to her right. Something didn't seem right. It occurred to her in a moment: There were no people. An area this densely populated should have had dozens of people on the street, where the hell would all of them go in broad daylight? A hand grabbed her from behind, clamping hard on her mouth. She was as confused as afraid.
She should have been able to sense someone coming up on her, or hear him, or something. And why was his grip so strong? There was something wrong, something very wrong. He should not have been able to keep hold of her. She should have been able to throw this stranger off of her as easily as she breathed. He should not have been this strong. He was at least as strong as Ryoga. His tongue touched the side of her face. It seemed too long for his mouth.
Ranma's mood darkened for no reason. It did this from time to time, and he had no idea why. Something told him that there was somewhere else he should be. It screamed at him and tore at him. There was something he should be doing, somewhere he should be, somewhere urgent. As a martial artist, he had learned to trust his instincts because much of the time they turned out to be right. He took the long route back to the Tendo residence. This was the direction Akane said that she was going to go in. He was in a more densely populated area now. There were alleys here and there and various pieces of low-income housing. He wondered why the hell no one would be on the street at this hour.
What he didn't know was that they were all asleep. When asked, hours later, if they could remember anything that happened, not one of them could. It was as though a shroud had fell on the place.
That was when he heard the scream. He knew it was her before his mind registered that it had in fact been a scream. His eyes widened in terror. He ran with all possible speed in the direction of the scream. It had been a few blocks away, but he made it pretty quickly with his speed. It took him only a minute and a half to reach the alley. was deep and dark, he couldnt really see inside, even though the entrance was in full sunlight. He walked slightly farther in. He stopped cold at what he saw. There were four men around her. She was laying on the cement, blood pouring from a dozen places. She wasn't breathing. Her legs and arms bled, her abdomen as well. Her throat was cut. That had been the fatal blow. Her clothing was all but torn off. Tears came to his eyes and he fell to his knees beside her. A tear streamed down his face and was soon joined by more. The four men had been turning to leave via one building's fire escape.
When the boy had shown up, the men had expected a fight, or for him to immediately run away. They had not expected him to fall beside the girl and wait for death, for that was what he was doing. Two of them worked their way around him, ready to put him out of his misery with their various weapons.
The boy, meanwhile, was staring at his hand. The girl's blood had covered it. A few drops of rain began to fall from the sky. The boy brought his bloody hand and brought it close to his face. The leader of the four saw something pink dart between the boy's mouth and his hand. Then the leader's mind registered that the boy was licking the blood off his hand.
"Kill this sicko" He said to the other three men. The boy looked up at him. The boy's former look of fear and greif had been replaced by a completely different expression. It was not sadness or even anger, it was something more. It was pure glee. The boy grinned widely.
His eyes were what stopped the man cold. He could have sworn that the boy's eyes had been green or blue or something to that effect. Now the boy's eyes were red as blood...
Ranma was in an alley some blocks away from where he started. He had no idea how he had gotten there. One second he was beside Akane, and the next he was here. He ran quickly back to that place. He saw two ambulances, and multiple police. There were five bodies being put into the ambulances. Four were large and one small. He ran a hand along that one, and waited for the reality of her death to sink in. As of yet it had not. He could hear the police and paramedics talking on their radios. He walked up to one of the police and asked him what was going on.
The officer looked at him and saw the definite signs that he had been crying. homicide. Somebody tore this place up but good. Get the hell out of here, kid."
As Ranma looked into the Alley (He could not take a closer look due to the police line) he saw that there was blood everywhere. It covered one entire wall on one side of the Alley. One side of the Alley had also been blackened as though by a flash fire. A martial artist would know that that is a definite sign of a Chi or Ki attack. As he backed away, another blood splatter, which he had noticed before on the side of the building facing the street, could be seen clearly. He saw now that it was not a splatter, but rather letters. Ranma wondered for a moment why english letters were written on the wall. It spelled a single, small word.
traced the letters with his eyes, as he was not good at reading English.
yeah, i know, cruel. just review it, please
