Chapter 3: Ranma we have a problem or A whole new world
Ranma was dropped off in front of the guest cottage, it was cute he decided. For a few minutes he stood in front of the door trying to gather his courage. He really hoped Akane wouldn't be too angry, he wanted to apologize for once and he wasn't sure he would get the chance if she started yelling at him right away.
When he stepped inside though she stood at the window staring blankly out at the garden behind the house. He walked over to her carefully like she was an unexploded bomb when he had gotten to her side he tentatively tried his apology.
"uh...hey, Akane, I'm uh sorry for yelling earlier, I had no right to be angry with you, and I, I guess I was kind of angrier at myself and took it out on you. will you forgive me?" He whispered into the silence. Akane stared out the window silently for so long afterwards he had just began to think about repeating himself when she answered.
"I didn't know." It wasn't loud or accusing, not even angry, she sounded more hurt and shocked than anything. Ranma was suddenly more nervous than when he had come in, anything that left Akane in this state had to be something that would get him in trouble and he knew it.
"Didn't know what?" he whispered before he ducked hoping to avoid the blow he felt coming, but it didn't come.
"I didn't know it was Ryoga." She murmured, her head falling forward to gently rest against the glass.
Ranma felt paralyzed, it was the end, she was going to kill him for not telling her. Instead he watched helplessly as tears started to trickle gently down her face.
"You tried to keep me from holding him, and, and everything." She managed finally. "I just wasn't listening, it was just a cute little animal that liked me, I thought you were being mean." She brought her arms up to hold herself as the tears fell faster and harder. "I called you a pervert when you tried to sneak in and stop him. I ignored every hint you gave me, I yelled at you for picking on him and all you were trying to do was protect me." Her whispered words were choked off by a quiet sob and Ranma felt like slime.
Sure most of that was trying to protect her, but part of it was jealousy, after all she was his fiancé. He had been mean to her, teased her, and told her she was ugly. He'd told her he couldn't stand her and here suddenly she was standing in front of him, apologizing for something that wasn't really her fault. She turned her face away from him and began to move toward her bedroom, but Ranma impulsively reached out and caught her arm. She stopped, still not looking at him, still silently crying as if her heart had broken. He walked carefully around to face her but she hung her head and wouldn't look at him. Slowly waiting for her to push him away he wrapped his arms around her and held her against his chest.
"I wanted to tell you." He murmured. "But I promised, and he was so scared you would find out. I'm sorry, I should have told you anyway." She only sobbed harder into his chest. "It made me crazy to see the two of you together, I was jealous and it made me angry, I'm sorry for taking it out on you."
Akane snaked her arms around him and held him tightly to her for a while as the sobbing slowly subsided. "Why?" She managed finally, with a sniffle.
"You know why." He said blushing scarlet and looking at the ceiling. "Cause I, I, uh, I kinda love ya, stupid." Akane went suddenly very still in his arms, Ranma couldn't bring himself to look at her, he could barely breathe waiting for her to say something.
Akane's mind had come to a screeching halt, it took her a moment to remember to breathe again. Had he really just said that? How long had it been, she wondered to herself, since she had admitted if only to herself that she wanted him to love her? That she loved him? Had he said it? Was she hearing things? She had asked him why, why Ryoga, who she had considered a friend would take advantage of her in such a way, but maybe he had thought she meant why did he care? She lifted her head to find him staring at the ceiling, his blush draining away leaving behind a sickly pallor and she realized he was waiting for a response.
"Really?" She whispered, not quite believing he had finally said it. He nodded woodenly at the ceiling, his blush returned and he closed his eyes as if preparing for a blow. "I kinda love you too, dummy." She breathed.
Slowly his eyes opened, and he blinked. Avoiding her eyes he looked down at her shoulder, and took a shuddering breath.
"I should have told you sooner." He croaked out. Taking a steadier breath he continued. "There was just always someone there to spoil the moment."
Akane was doing her best not to pant but she finally understood why people referred to love as having the hots for someone, she felt a heat spreading through her body as he held her there, and when he finally met her eyes she felt her heart might explode from the feeling like lightning that swept through her. She wanted to cry for joy, and laugh at the fears she had held on to so tightly for so long. Mostly though she really wanted him to kiss her. Then it occurred to her that she could also kiss him. She suddenly pulled her arms from around him and before he could think she was pulling away or rejecting him she flung them 'round his neck. Pulling him down to her as she rose on her tip toes and she kissed him passionately on his lips. Startled it took him a moment to respond, when he did they both forgot about everything but each other until they had to break apart for much needed air.
Pulling away from Ranma for a moment Akane realized her knees were weak and she laughed out loud as she stumbled back into his arms. He caught her easily, smiling as he lifted her into his arms, bridal style, he carried her to the couch. The two settled on the couch, Akane still in Ranma's arms, cuddled up against him she tucked her head under his chin. Ranma smiled at her, wondering idly if all women instinctively put their heads under their guys chin or if it was something they learned. He decided it didn't really matter, it made him feel strong and brave. With her here like this he felt he could protect her from anything and it felt really good. Lani's husband was right he decided, this feeling was worth all the pain and fear he had wrestled with to get here.
"I suddenly get why girls always seem to end up sitting like this with their guys." Akane murmured, startling Ranma who looked at her suspiciously, was she reading his mind? "I feel so warm and safe." She murmured. He smiled a little at the thought, maybe they could learn to work together.

Ranma and Akane sat together just talking and getting to actually know each other, something they hadn't gotten much chance to do in the last couple years. When they finally wound down they sat and just explored each others sweet kisses. When the clock struck midnight they both realized how tired they were and decided to go to bed, Akane showed Ranma where his room was. He was pleasantly suprized by his room, decorated in red, black and gold with a real bed made of ebony, with a matching dresser and wardrobe.
Having explored her own room earlier Akane had an idea of where everything would be in Ranma's room so she went to the dresser and found the pajamas left for him. Right on top was a black silk Chinese set she thought he would look very good in. He smiled at the shy look she gave him when she handed it to him. Before she left for the night he pulled her into a last embrace and kissed her goodnight. She blushed and left smiling back over her shoulder.

In the morning Ranma woke at his usual time but for a moment he savored the feeling of not having to jump up and fight for breakfast. Just as he thought of breakfast he realized he smelled something wonderful, he climbed out of bed and went to see what smelled so good. He wandered through the house until he found the kitchen and dining area, on the dining room table were clean plates set out for two and in the center next to a vase of flowers sat a large silver cover. Ranma lifted the cover to sneak a peek at what was for breakfast and found pancakes, bacon, sausage, omelets, steak and a platter of fresh fruit. There was also a pot of tea, with generous dishes of cream and sugar. He smiled in anticipation though it occurred to him that there was no way they could finish it all just between the two of them, but he was certain he would leave the table full for a change without having to fight for every mouthful.
As Ranma stood inhaling the delicious aroma of breakfast he realized that he wanted to have a quiet breakfast with Akane, just the two of them, they'd never had the chance to do that before. He replaced the cover over the food and went to wake his fiancé. That thought gave him pause for a moment, for the first time the thought of actually marrying Akane filled him with joy instead of the jumble of terror and yearning it usually did. So with a bounce in his step he continued to her door, when he knocked he heard a sleepy mumble from within, so he opened the door and went to her side. Glancing around he realized she had the nicer room, but it didn't bother him, he had made her wait for him after all.
Bending over her peacefully sleeping form he kissed her cheek, and her eyes fluttered half open in response. When she saw who it was her eyes flew open in surprise for a moment before her memory of last night caught up to her, then she gave him a sleepy, sheepish smile that warmed him through to his heart.
"I thought you might want to have breakfast with me." He murmured still leaning over her. "Someone left it already cooked for us in the dining room, though it seems enough to feed a whole army."
Akane sat up enough in bed to kiss him before he got up, blushing. "I would love to have breakfast together." Realizing he was still in the pajamas she had handed him the night before she blushed and said: "I knew that set would look good on you."
"Ranma smiled and replied. "They're really comfortable too, everything here seems really nice, almost as if it was made just for us." She nodded, having thought the same thing.
The two enjoyed their first ever meal alone together but were careful not to over eat as they knew they would be training later in the day. When they finished they hesitated unsure of what exactly should be done with the rest of the food. As if in answer to their unspoken question Lani appeared before them.
"Don't worry about the leftovers, just put everything back under the lid it will take care of itself." She told them. "Are the two of you ready to begin?"
A/N: I have already completed most of this fic, I will post a bit every few days until I finish and then I'll post whatever is left. I have also written an alternate ending just for fun. Please review and ask any questions you have because I have a part in chapter 6 where Ranma and Akane get to ask some questions. I will also anwer questions that were posted in authors notes if it's outside the story line.
I really hope you enjoy this fic. It's my second to date and I'm still working on the other one.
