Ranma 1/2 Fan Fiction ❯ Summertime Blues ❯ One-Shot
[ A - All Readers ]
Shortly after the wedding mess, Ranma and Akane sorted their feelings out and are having a somewhat stable relationship. Well, as stable as they can get anyway. However, one fiancée actually decided that if she loved him so much, make sure he's with the one he's happy with. That was Ukyo and that's the good news. The bad news however…
“You mean I gotta what?!”
“You heard me Ranchan.” Ukyo replied to a shocked Ranma. “It took me awhile, but I came to terms with you and Akane so that left me with only one option, and I can't bear to kill my best friend.” She then sighed and looked a little frustrated at what she is about to tell him a second time. “However, I managed to talk to my father and convinced him that if you repay for the Yata in full, then he'll not only end the engagement, but legally register me as a girl.”
After that, Ranma sighed. Its not that he didn't want to work or he was lazy like his father, far from it, save for school of course. However, he hasn't exactly had what you call pleasant memories from the last time he was a waitress, which was for the Cat Café. However, this is Uchan's, maybe it'll be better.
“Ok Uchan, I'll do it on two conditions.” Ranma reluctantly said. “One, the next time Akane and I try to get married, if we do, no exploding Okonokyami.” To that, Ukyo had a surprised look.
“You're still a bit steamed at…”
“You and the others blew up my house once, remember?” Ranma flatly stated.
“Good point.” She replied with a defeated tone.
“Two, once I get the money to pay for the cart, I can quit to resume my training, but if I need to come back to work for any reason…”
“You mean when Nabiki calls her bills in?” Ukyo half seriously added with a bit of a laugh. Ranma just gave her a `Did you really have to say that?' look.
“Right, I can come back.”
“Done.”
Little did he know what he was getting into…

(Well, I'm gonna raise a fuss,
I'm-A-Gonna raise a holler)
“ARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!” `Ranko' said as soon as she got into the kitchen with Ukyo. Unfortunately for Ranma, he agreed to work as a girl during the baseball season and most of Ukyo's customers were drinking while watching the game. Of course, this met that most of the guys there had wandering hands.
“If one more jerk pinches me, I'll...”
(About-a working all summer
Just to try to earn a dollar.)
“Sorry Ranchan, if you do, I loose customers and you'll have to work longer than we agreed.”
(Well, the time'll come-a baby
To try to get a date, my boss says…)
To try to get a date, my boss says…)
“Alright, alright. The only thing that's keeping me sane right now is Akane and I will, at least try to around here anyway, go on a date.” Ranma said with a smile, but then she heard that the restaurant's favorite team won and everybody called their friends to celebrate, and of course, they said they'd join them. Ranma then looked like somebody who lost his puppy.
“Sorry Ran-chan, it looks like we're both pulling an all nighter.” Ukyo said with a voice tone that matched Ranma's `Can't take much more' expression.
(“No dice son, you gotta work late.”)
`I'm doing this to pay Ukyo back… I'm doing this to pay Ukyo back…' Ranma thought to prevent herself from lashing out at the drunks right then and there.

“I'm in this mess because of you old man!” Ranma shouted at his father. It's been 3 weeks and Ranma was getting exhausted and stressed out. In fact, if it weren't for the fact that his girl form is faster than his male form, he wouldn't be able to keep up with Ukyo. “Why don't YOU chip in?!”
“Because you offered to pay it back Ranma.” Genma said, trying to think of a way to get his son to stop him for working. After all, he did it for the boy so they'd both have food, there for the boy should get out of this mess.
“As much as I agree with Ranma dear,” Nodoka said, sword in hand, “you do have a point.” She then looked at Ranma sternly and with authority. “You told her that you would take care of it.”
(A-well, my mom and papa
Told me “Son, you gotta
Make some money...)
“If you didn't think you could do it alone, you shouldn't have said anything.” Nodoka finished.
“I didn't think it'd be that crazy! I didn't think it'd be as hard as when I worked at the Cat Café!” Ranma said defensively. “And it's not just that, but I haven't been able to date Akane and I can barley keep up as is.”
“Just remember, it's to pay off that yata.” Nodoka reminded her son.
(…If you wanna use the car
To go-a riddin' next Sunday!”)
“I remember.” Ranma said as he took a bite of his food and swallowed, noticing he's the only one to do so. “Uh… who cooked this?”
“I did!” Akane said proudly.
(Well, I didn't go to work
Told the boss I was sick.)
Ranma then turned white as a ghost and doubled over.
“Oh my, I guess he forgot.” Kasumi said in her usual tone.
“Hmmm… looks like it'll take longer to pay the yata off, won't it Saotomae?” Nabiki said in her usual tone with the cat-that-ate-the-canary look that she usually has.
(“Now you can't use the car
`Cause you didn't work a lick.”)
`Why me…?' Was the last conscious thought of Ranma before he passed out.

After three more weeks, Ranma was determined to see if he can talk to Ukyo's father about this whole mess. After all, he agreed to end the whole engagement half, provided he can pay for the yata, and maybe the only reason he doesn't do anymore is because he wanted a son and doesn't listen to his daughter.
(I'm gonna take to weeks,
Gonna have a fine vacation)
Gonna have a fine vacation)
So, he got a few days off and is heading to the Komioji's home to talk to him.
(I'm gonna take my problem
to the united nations)
An hour later, after talking to him, Ranma found out just how stubborn he is and flat out refuses to just end this whole mess.
“She wants me to be with Akane, and you yourself reduced the agreement to paying you back, so why won't you honor your daughter's choice?!” Ranma said angrily. Ukyo's father just looked at him.
(Well, I called my congressman,
And he said quote…)
“Because until she's of age, I'm the authority of the family.” He replied. “And you only had two more days to go to pay it off.”
“You… you mean…”
“You were this close son, but you delayed your goal by a few days.”
(“Love to help you son,
But you're too young to vote.”)
“And of course, with this little trip, judging from what I heard, you probably own Nabiki some money for a train ticket, and judging by the time, a hotel stay, food, and…”
It was at this point, Ranma could've sworn he heard somebody from the heavens laughing their butts off at his misfortune.
