Why I wrote Dirge of Crisis:
When DC first started out, it was a quirky parody of the events we have faced over the past few years in our society. I have to admit, it was inappropriate, foolish, and desensitive to other's beliefs, and it was poorly written- mirroring how immature I was to the subjects we hear so much about on a daily basis. Over time, I grew tired of writing stupid crap, the same stupid crap(I might add) and I decided it was time to revamp. How are we affected by the actions of a single person thousands of miles away? How are connected to the struggles of the downtrodden even though we know not their names or life stories? These were the questions I had asked myself as I rewrote the story in its entirety.
Might as well not bore you with any of my reasonings, so here's what I based my story from:
What is Dirge of Crisis about, anyway?
*If you are a World War II buff, then you could easily distinguish the administrations of Presidents Abannon and Gutenburg as being similiar to the tyrannical rules of Joseph Stalin and Adolph Hitler. Chapters 6 and 7 were in fact based from descriptions of brutal public executions that were practiced by the Nazi party. Just to clarify myself, I am not a Nazi, nor do I agree with their ideals; however, they are a fasinating bunch to study.
*Back about 2 or so years ago, the president of Ukraine(I can't remember his name...) was poisoned by members of his own political party. This man, unlike Dallas, is still alive to tell his story to all.
*Differeces in class and ethnicity in the U.S. This is Hidar's symbolism. To be honest, I can't stand how Hispanics and Middle Easterns are treated by the fellow of society. Do I care that an extreamist militant group from Afghanistan hyjacked 4 planes and had caused the deaths of thousands of innocent American civilians? Yes, I do, but....that doesn't mean that I could forever hold a grudge to an entire race based on what a handful of them did. I love you guys. I don't care who you are, where you're from, and what you've done. Everyone is the product of the Great Spirit's love and guidance, and we should come to respect that; if you do not, let Oprah handle that for you!
*Political Corruption-(Leigh's symbolism) Hey, Mr. Mayor, I know how you got elected! Seriously, I believe that the lying and the cheating has gotta stop because it's getting rather old. Tennessee has to be the world's worse about corruption in the highest ranks of the police force. Almost every Sherrif we've had has goten caught selling drugs or buying them from a dealer; often times, they are caught stealing money from the needy- that's a cruel act in itself and it hurts me to see the needy suffer as either the mayor lines his pockets with gold or the police chief threatens a family because they have an unpaid debt.
*Wiretapping people who don't count as terrorists.
*Fear of another 9-11 style attack. (That explains itself.)
*Tennessee, last year's Senate race between Bob Corker(R) and Harold Ford, Jr.(D). It got pretty ugly with the name calling and prostitutes saying they partied hard with the Congressmen. Seven words: Oh God in Heaven, please help us!
* Smoke's character may have Cloud- like tendencies, but that is not the case. He is actually based off of a Gothic guy I knew when I was younger. His name was Scottie from what I can remember. He was always putting himself down but what he didn't realize is that he had far more potential than he ever knew. Not only is Scottie the inspiration for Smoke, but there are also the kids who are overlooked in school because of their differences in appearance or views overall. I personally know how that feels to be ignored by my peers and teachers, but I am a strong enough individual to carry on. Sadly, some need help to see their hidden potentials and destinies. Smoke is symbolic of that quest.
*Finally, I am nearly through! Have you ever heard of Metallica's little brother, Megadeth? On the alblum, Rust in Peace, there is a song that almost fully matches DC's storyline(besides Evanescene's "The Only One") called "Five Magics". It speaks about a man who became so obsessed with overthrowing the rule of an evil prince that when he destroyed the iron-fisted leader, he became the evil everyone feared.
Now, I'm finished! I personally thank you for reading Dirge of Crisis and I hope you enjoyed it. If you enjoyed my works, let me know because I have tons more to send in!
