Chapter 3/ Playdates & Playtoys
After school, I walked to The Dot, my mind racing. I sat down at the table and awaited Eli's company. A boy a few
years older came to take my order. "Hi, I'm Spinner. You must be new around here. What can I get you?" he smiled
and waited patiently for my answer. After I ordered a burger and fries, he returned behind counter. My thoughts
drifted farther and farther from reality until, Drew entered them. Drew walked through the door and sat down, he
didn't say anything and neither did I. He reached out for my hand, and I took it. Then followed him out of The Dot
and down the many streets to his place, I'm guessing. We reached his room, and then his bed. Carefully, he
picked me up and began kissing my lips, then neck, then chest. Next thing I know, we're lying on his bed, and-
Snap! The door actually opens, for real this time, and Eli enters. He seems sad but hides it when he reaches our
table. "What happened to your eye?!" I freak, when I see a dim purple shadow encircling his left eye. "Nothing, it
was stupid." "Tell me. Nothing you do is gonna change how I feel about you." "Thanks, but trust me on this. I don't
need you to get more involved then you already are," he warned. Spinner returns and sets down my food, then
asks Eli the same question I got before. Eli just answers, "What Abby ordered." Spinner nodded, then looked at me
and points to his left eye. I understand, but wave him off. "Eli, how am I already involved if I have no idea what you
are talking about?" "It's about him." "Drew?" "Funny you'd know exactly who in a split second of mention the word
'him'," he looks down, what I guess is an attempt to hide his anger. "I am with you. What happened at lunch was
nothing to worry about, I handled it, no worries," I smile then dip a french fry in ketchup. The fry never made it into
my mouth, "It was much more serious than a discussion at lunch," with that, I put together everything Eli has
mentioned and gape at him. The french fry seems to fall in slow motion before it finally hits th ground. "You mean
HE did this to your eye?" Eli never answered, he got up, whispered to Spinner and dissapeared. I called for a to-go
box and the check. After paying, I ran home. About an hour later, I found Drew's number off of the Degrassi
Welcoming Commitee's list of students to welcome, including mine. I wanted so badly to give him the phone call
of a lifetime, but something kept me from doing it.
I had no idea what to do the next day. Drew texted me that morning, "I wanted you to know, I'm free Saturday night."
Ignoring the attempt, I made my way out of the house and down the street, alone. Just how I like it, for now. On the
steps, I found Alli. She was very upset, so I decided to try and be nice. "Hi Alli, what's the matter?" "Oh, hi Abby, it's
stupid," she sighed. "I don't think a smart girl like you would be upset over something stupid." "Well, it involves you,
sorta," she nervously spoke. "Listen, I'm free for ten minutes before homeroom, you meet me at my locker and we'll
talk," I smiled. "Thanks, just...promise not to be mad?" "Promise."
"Hey Abby," I heard about three boys say in unison as I walked to my locker. Boys I'd never met before. Eli wasn't
there. Things were really crazy this morning. I kneeled down to reach for my agenda book, and a set of hands
cover my eyes, I knew Eli was here. "Guess who?" "Um..I have no clue," I answered, not sure it was Eli after the
differ in voice. "Your new playmate, Saturday, my place. Don't tell HIM," of course Drew said, then dissapeared
right before I turned around. "So, our talk?" Alli appeared, more calm than before. "Oh, okay. What does it have to
do with me? Not being rude, just wondering," I questioned curiously. "Well, you and...Drew," she avoided my eye
contact before continuing her sentence, then resumed, "He wants you, badly. But I like him, and you're with Eli,
so could you put in a good word for me? Or, I could always tell Eli about your playdate Saturday," she grinned.
"How did you-" "Shhh, I know all," then she turned on her heel and vanished into the crowd. My day just got crazier.
By the end of my fifth class, I became worried. No sign of Eli, and a lot of attention from Drew.
At the end of the day, the the bell rang for my last class. I hurried of to Geography. A class I had with Drew.
"Look, I'm a sweetheart. You just have to get to know me. I'm quite the legend," Drew informed me on my way to my
seat, four down from his. "Don't pretend like nothing happened. You will NEVER get ANY of this," I motioned my
hands from my boobs to my very mini skirt. His eyes followed as he licked his lips, "We'll see." "I saw what you did
to him," my hands formed fists. "Come on princess, the boy had it coming. Don't get mad. He was in our way, I
took care of it. And if it happens again, trust me he won't get away with just a black eye," he grinned, and reached
for my waist and I slapped him. He looked appauled and took his seat.
