“Two Souls”
A story of lies and deceit, of love and death, of a fake world to hide behind….

Darkness slowly covers the land mixing black with blues, red with orange, an artist's masterpiece. Rain falls slowly from the heavens. And in the middle of the puddles and the mud are two girls dancing. In looks the differ so much you would wonder how they knew each other.

One girl has light brown hair that swirls around her. Her blue eyes glistened as the moon light began to filter down. Her fair complexion gleam a healthy glow. She wore skin tight jeans as were in fashion and a low cut top. She just wanted to fit in, for someone to notice her beauty. The rain coated her running down her face and every curve of her body, washing the “makeup” from her face trying to show the beauty she has hidden.

The other girl cared less for fashion or looks. She cared less for what was popular. She cared for herself only. Her hair she wore in messy pigtails that seemed to soak up the rain without ruining. In the moonlight brilliant colors gleamed from her hair. Red, green, blue, bright pink, a rainbow in its own right. Her skin seemed sallow and pale from lack of sunlight. Her clothes she wore ragged. A black and red corset top with a red mini skirt over black pants. Black boots on her delicately dancing feet. The rain ran down her face in the same fashion but didn't seem to be able to smudge the dark makeup, her black eyes and lips, the red tears the seemed to stream from her face.

The two girls danced together as if no one watched. Their movements were perfectly in time as if their hearts beat to the same tune. They swayed with the wind. Whirling with the rain. Shadows enclosed upon them, pressing closer.

Quaking fear shuddered through the popular beauty thought her feet did not waver. True tears fell from her eyes. She cried for what she did not know. A vanquished lover perhaps? An unrequited love? A lost soul?

The unreal beauty flowed through the movements. Nothing seemed to hinder her. Her tears were not real. A true smile graced her lips. Her spirit carefree. She could dance as she pleased, do as she pleased, say what she willed for she didn't care what the world said. But still her heart was heavy. What made her dance so? Who is the man in her crystal eyes? Her past or future? Or maybe just a solemn dream that is never to be? To be again? To be ever? Is he her forlorn soul?

The two girls matched steps as their dance deepened. Pain filled their steps. The unreal beauty's face lost its happy smile. Her heart broken. Her soul in pieces. The popular beauty strained as if bound trying to break free.

These two girls though it seems are as different as day and night are in fact the same. Two halves of one whole, one soul, trying to be herself. Trying to learn her place. A soul shattered in life and fractured by day. But in the night under the healing light of the moon the two become one in dance and beauty. The popular beauty is the soul to all who know her. The one who tries too hard to be perfect but became locked in this image fighting herself and those she loves to be free. The unreal beauty is the soul breaking free, showing her true colors. She is the one that thrives under the moon and hides from the light knowing she would never be accepted in the day. She is the true self behind the mask fighting the demons holding her back.

This halved girl, one soul with two images, knows that the heart that beats to the unheard music between the two halves only knows one true love. The heart breaks, slowly shattering. The popular half fixes more makeup to her face and buries her heart away from the sight of others. The unreal beauty releases her pain physically and lets that pain ice her heart over never to feel love again. Both halves agreeing on one thing. Life is not worth living if not for love but love is a betrayal that hinders more than it aids.

So was it worth the pain to love? To fall prey to an emotion that was as cold as frost on a winter morning? Where was love's warm embrace? Wrapped in another`s arms. Swathed in a fake emotion that means nothing. Cloaked in darkness to never see truth. Wrapped in another embrace wanting for something fake and never to be. A world wrapped in lies. A dance with faltering steps. Unsure…hesitant…uncertain….deceit and dishonesty.

Where is the truth? Hidden in a buried icy heart never to see the light of day again. This soul realized the lies that were told. It knew too late where it was destined to be. It threw away the one love that it ever needed and now it was shattered and falling.

Where is grace? In the grave with all the deception. Buried alive gasping for air that's not there. Struggling free of binds never to be set released. Bound for love's sake.

Where is life. Dead…numb…frozen over…never to be again. And the two girls? Where are they? Amongst the rain and dirt, amid blood and lust. Their veins laid open by their own hands in sorrow and agony. Souls set free to watch their love frolic with another. A truth told too late to save them. A world of treachery where they buried their hurt long before their death. Watching their love move on without them as if they never existed. Did they? In his heart did they exist? Would he ever tell? Is the truth worth knowing now that the shattered soul has ceased in its life?
