Resident Evil Series Fan Fiction ❯ Raccoon City Incident ❯ Outbreak, Part 1 ( Chapter 3 )
- September 23rd, 1998 -
- Raccoon City, Jack's Bar, 7:30 PM-
"There was a disruption earlier today at the football match between the Raccoon Sharks and the Old Court Thunders at the Warren Stadium, apparently an disgruntled fan lost control and sparked the riot, the number of injured are unconfirmed at this time, however, it is known by our reporter, Alyssa Ashcroft, that over 50 RPD officers have been called at the scene...-"
The bar today had lesser costumers per usual, however the obvious reason for that was the recent violence cases as well as these sudden riots. None the less the bar kept on doing services for their costumers.
Kevin had arrived a couple of hours ago, and despite the illegal and irresponsible action he took, he none the less started drinking with his uniform on. It seems no one else was bothered by this.
Mark and Bob also arrived at the same time as Kevin, only thing both ordered where a lunch meal, though Bob ordered a extra glass of water.
Emily, an waitress from the bar was carrying the plate with the single bottle of water to Bob.
Emily was pondering as she walked to him.
Emily (mind): I wonder why Cindy didn't come up tonight...? now i gotta do the night shift for her...
Out of all the sudden a rat came out of nowhere and quickly ran all over the floor, Emily yelled in terror and dropped the plate, both this and the sound of a glass breaking caught the attention of everyone.
Will the bartender yelled in concern.
Will: Emily! what happened?!
Emily: A rat...
Will: Oh ah...- well it'll get the janitor... uh get the security guard the glass of water.
Emily: Will do...
Emily took a look at everyone looking in curiosity.
Emily: Sorry for the commotion...
Kevin: Its no problem miss.
Emily: Alright then...
2 minutes later, the janitor cleaned up the mess, and Emily finally gave the glass of water to Bob, he thanked her, she apologized for the delay, he remarked didn't had any problem with it.
And so everyone moved on. And Mark and Bob ate their meals.
[5 minutes later]
Mark and Bob finished their meals for a good while now, Mark noticed ever since Bob drank the glass of water he fell asleep for a good while.
Mark: Aren't you gonna eat anything else?
He says as he puts his hand on Bob's shoulder.
Mark: Hey. Bob! where's your mind at...?
Bob: What...?
Bob said sleepy, while Kevin was simply contemplating the table for a good while, either had nothing in mind or the contrary of it.
Many costumers left, only 2 remained, along with Mark, Bob, Kevin.
And out of the blue, a homeless looking man, looking down to the ground came inside, the loud opening caught the attention of everyone.
It just stood there, looking dreadfully at the ground, the skin was oddly looking, and it kept moaning and groaning silently.
The costumers started to be concerned.
Will: What a weird... costumer...?
Will seemed to recognize this man...
Mark: Who is this guy?
Mark said, before Bob would suddenly fall to the ground with a loud thud!
Mark: Dammit! he's unconscious!
He yelled as he got up from the chair and checked on his friend.
Mark: Are you alright?
Kevin also checked in too.
Kevin: Sir! sir are you alright?
While at that, Will went to check on the odd man. Then noticed...
Will: Hey wait a minute...! you're that homeless guy that causes trouble! Tramp! hey get the hell out of here! or it'll make this police officer kick your sorry ass out of here!
He yelled, but Tramp didn't react up until, "he" rose up his head...
His face... bloody, mutilated, life less eyes, drooling coming from "his" mouth...
Before Will could realize, "Tramp" would start biting and munching deeply onto his shoulder, he let out an agonizing crying of pain, his blood dripping on the floor, as he pushed "Tramp" back outside, and locked the door.
He dropped back to the floor, shocked and in big amounts of pain.
The costumers where in a state of horror by what they witnessed.
Will: What the- hell was that?!
Kevin intermediately got up and checked on Will's wounds.
Kevin: Oh my god Will! Jesus Christ...!
But out of the blue, the 2 costumers screamed in horror, as one of those people that looked just like Tramp started to appear and bump into the window, rubbing their faces into the wall, wanting to get inside.
At first where just 3, but then it slowly multiplied into more of those "people".

- Raccoon City General Hospital, 7:30 PM -
Dr. George Hamilton, a well known member amongst the hospital staff, was walking along the dull, aging and narrow corridors of the hospital he's been working on for several years.
"Never, in my 11 year old career, have ever seen such weird symptoms of the illness the recent almost half of the patients presented. Although a obvious pattern was known..."
He put a finger on his chin.
"All of them either drank tapped water... or got bit by a rat. All of them presented symptoms of this disease throughout the victim's body and affects its systems, starting with internal secretory systems, then spreading to nearly all organs making up the body, such as the skin, muscles, nerves, circulatory, respiratory, digestive and skeletal systems, the cerebral neo-cortex necrotises, inhibiting memory and language function."
He closed his eyes as he walked along.
"With metabolism slowed down significantly, some of the earlier patients aren't pleasant looking as of now... the skin just being awfully pale..."
This "disease"... it was nothing like George ever saw before...
By this discovery, there is a high possibility that this was virus symptoms. And thus, Director. Ethan Schmidt had to put the entire hospital into quarantine. A lot of people who where staying in the hospital wanting to know more of their friends or loved ones, or just general staff, wanted to protest against this. However, unfortunately, no exceptions where made.
Ethan made the order for leaving most of the infected patients on the second floor, leaving them separately and quarantined on the medical rooms, and having a good portion of the security staff, armed only with batons, oddly enough, and wearing face masks with hand gloves.
Either way, George finally got the the break room. He saw one of his co-workers.
George: Ah, Keith, good to see yo-
George then stopped both in his words and walk. Keith was just standing there, motionless, looking down at the floor, drool coming out of his mouth, the skin looked horribly pale, with dark veins seen on the back of his neck.
George couldn't believe this, Keith is infected, how???
George couldn't move, he just stood there, "Keith" not acknowledging George's presence.
At last George took the initiative to slowly walk back, he needs to call for the guards. But suddenly, one of the nurses, Kathy, walked into George. Both fell to the floor.
Kathy slowly got up.
Kathy: George-
George: Kathy get security now!
He yelled as "Keith" turned to look at both humans, and started walking and grunting towards them.
Kathy was in absolute horror that she couldn't avoid to scream and runaway. George followed suit.
They finally got to the main reception room.
"Hey what's up with ya'?". Asked one of the guards, concerned.
Kathy: Keith...! he... he's infected... break room...!
"What?!"
George: Keith is infected with the symptoms of the disease...!
"Holy shit there he is!"
The guard pointed, as "Keith" was slowly, pitifully, grunting his way down on the hall.
The civilians who where sat down in the chairs where starting to get immediately concerned by the George and Kathy's commotion.
"Stay back! i got this.". The guard said as he used his radio.
"This is Colton, we've got an infected staff member on the hallway next to the reception, i need back up!"
Colton got his hand on the baton, as he slowly went to apprehend "Keith".
Colton: Keith, stop it right there! Don't make me do this!
But the warning was to no avail, Keith was gone, the lack of pupils said everything.
Colton attempted to apprehend Keith while using the least amount of force possible without getting bit.
It was a huge struggle for the single guard to get "Keith" on the ground, it tried to constantly bite him by every chance it could, only scratching him. Colton going back and forth, not letting "Keith" to take a step further to the reception.
At last backup arrived, right behind "Keith", they pinned it down, and struggled to drag it to the second floor for quarantine.
Colton: Jesus god...! that was close...
George: Colton your arm...
Colton: I know George i know... i- eh... it'll... get myself into quarantine... can't risk it...
The room was silent, nobody knew what to say, with nothing else to do, Colton made his way to the quarantine area.
George: Damn it...
He muttered.
"Yoko what do you think was that?" asked one girl with glasses, white jacket, jeans, and green-ish shoes carrying a school bag.
Yoko: I do not know Valerie.
Said Yoko, a asian girl diagnosed with amnesia, wearing a olive green jacket, black sleeveless T-shirt, jeans, and brown shoes.
Both girls where in the hospital solely for the reason of Yoko's mental state. However in the attempt to leave the hospital they where caught up in the quarantine.

...
Cindy Lennox, the mentioned missing waitress from J's Bar was, at least attempting to do so previously. If it wasn't for the carnage that was happening in her neighborhood.
She'd called the police already, but they're taking too long...!
She would only hide as the screams of her own neighbors and friends echoed loudly outside her home, followed by the sounds of flesh being consumed.
Cindy had her bible on hand, she just sat down, trembling, terrified, praying to god while peeking on the window's curtain every now and then, terrified of a zombie about coming to her window.
At last a blessing from God. Sirens where heard.
Police from Highway Patrol and nearby Arklay County Sheriff's Department responding deputies.
Next thing Cindy heard was straight up gunshots.
Then they stopped... she peeked once again in the curtains, the officers eliminated the zombies close to their range, more where in the distance, and they where reloading.
This was her chance, she got up, bible still in hand, and slowly opened her front door.
Cindy: Don't shoot! please don't shoot i'm not one of them!
She yelled at first hand before the officers knew about the open door.
"Get over here! quick!"
Yelled one Highway Patrol officer. Cindy did as the officer ordered and ran to the small barricade.
"Are you hurt?? did those things did anything to you?"
Cindy: No...! no i'm fine...! dear god...
"Do- don't look..."
Cindy did her best to avoid watching all of the mutilated corpses around.
"Ge- get inside ma'am we'll get you out of here"
Cindy got in the back seat, she hoped to god some of her neighbors and friends where alright... unlike the ones laying on the floor... she started praying first hand.
"Damn it Donovan we can't stay here for longer! we can't take 'em all and!"
Yelled the officer's partner.
"Fuck...! ehm...!"
Donovan was questioning about the choice he would make.
Donovan: Lets...! lets get out of here! we'll take her back at the HP station.
"Alright! Deputy! we're leaving!"
"Right behind you."
Said the Deputy (Author Note: 'Deputy" is police officer but exclusive to county police) already getting in his police cruiser.
Soon enough both police vehicles left the neighborhood, leaving the upcoming zombies behind.
Cindy: What is-
Donovan: Ma'am i was asking myself the same question ever since the riots at the Football Stadium started, no we don't have an answer.
Donovan said immediately, Cindy was absolutely perplexed.
...
The drove almost all over the city, detour after detour, it was absolute chaos.
Zombies feasting on civilians, cars crashed, or in the process of crashing, fires, people fighting against each other.
An absolute riot.
"For how long do we have to drive all over the HPD? Jesus christ i can't tell how many turns you made!"
Donovan: For fuck sakes Loaky then speak with the people who crashed their damn cars! or the pale ones walking all over the road like its some huge parade!!!
Cindy still tried her best to remain calm in this stressful and desperate situation.
Driving through an intersection, out of nowhere a van crashed right into Donovan's cruiser, on the front, Cindy got her head knocked as the car flipped on its side.
...
Her head... she slowly woke up by the massive headache on both sides of her head, and her neck, with things slowly more clear, she noticed the car was entirely flipped upside down now.
"Guys! GUYS!". Yelled one man, the deputy, using his flashlight checking from the outside the seats, once he noticed Cindy.
"Oh thank god a alive one!"
The man said as he used his baton to break the window.
He helped Cindy out by taking off the seat belt, and carefully dragging her out of the car.
Cindy: W-w-what happened to the other-
"They didn't make it, but focus right now on me alright? there's a swarm of them things coming right at us and they just surrounded my car! i got no ammo so just stay with me alright?? we'll run you hear me!"
Cindy: Y-yes
With that answer the deputy carried Cindy across the chaotic streets.
