Treasure Hunting
The game starts off with the players in Waterdeep. Player's may or may not know each other which is up to the DM's digression.
Undermountain is a huge dungeon complex created by the mad wizard Halaster Blackcloak and located under the city of Waterdeep. It continually changes according to Halaster's strange whims. He summons monsters into his dungeon from their homes, trapping them there and creates traps to test adventurers venturing down into the dungeon, looking for fame and fortune. There are several legends of the Dwarves who mined and help carve the dungeon. Relics worth more than anyone can imagine. Our story begins with the party eventually meeting after seeing a notice seeking adventurers.

All of you stand in an alleyway outside what looks like a heavy wooden door. Taking a moment you all examine each other, not knowing that there were going to be many others showing up.
(Whether the players introduce themselves or not is up to them)
The heavy wooden door opens, and in the door way is the most armoured Dwarf you have ever seen. Equipped head to toe, a large battle axe strapped on his back, two swords hanging from his belt, at least ten knives strapped to his legs, and you seem to not be able to tell if he is wearing two sets of armour or not. He stands there with his arms crossed.

A voice comes from behind him. “Hello there.” A tall Deva walks into the doorway. “You must have read the notice.” She peers out of the door, and looks both ways. “Please come in. Quickly now.”
You enter a room just big enough for you and all the others to fit into. Boxes and crates are piled in the corners, as if the Deva hasn't even been able to settle in yet. In the middle of the room is a table with several seats around. She takes a seat, while the Dwarf stands behind her, with the same expression on his face, and his arms still crossed. A large coin sack sits on the table.
“Excuse me for not introducing myself at first. My name is Zyla, and this is my bodyguard Korath.” Korath grunts, not changing his expression. “I have a request for all of you. And it will require you to work together. I don't know how much you know about Waterdeep. But did you know that all of Waterdeep is built on top of a dungeon called Undermountain? Legend has it that there are three Dwarven shields of the great generals who had lived down there. It is said that these shields, when gathered together, open a portal to a great land. The shields where buried away with the bodies of the generals. What I want, is for you to go down there, and get me one of those. Just one.”

“You are not the first ones to accept this either, the other adventures went down, and only one returned. Came up screaming something about spiders.”

“As an incentive I am going to give you this bag of gold in advance. Consider it a down payment, this one shield that I want is worth more than you can imagine. And you will of course be paid generously, from the money that comes from selling it afterwards.”
[Bag has 1500 gold pieces]

“In this very building, there is an entrance to Undermountain. If you require anything before you go down there, please feel free to go to the market and get supplies.”
“Just don't piss around.” Korath breaking his silence.
“Now now Korath, take it easy. Get out the wine. Please adventurers, we'll toast this moment.”
Korath gets a bottle of wine and there are mugs placed for the party, after the wine is poured, Zyla takes the first drink, to prove that it is not poisoned, drugged, or anything else.
