As soon as he realized she was crying he walked over to her and hugged her. He kissed her cheeks and her eyes as he tried to stop the torrent of tears. He knew it was never easy when your family fought. It brought up all sorts of doubts and fears. He knew how hard it was to deal with it by yourself, that's why he was right there with her.

"Do you want to get out of the house for a little while?"

"No," Anna said. She stood and pushed herself from his arms. She turned off the radio and walked down the hall. Her parents were still yelling. She pounded on the door. "Stop it! Do you hear me!?" she yelled while she cried. "You can't fight! So just stop it!"

They grew quiet. "How can you fight about not seeing each other? I don't see much of you either. You are always gone. You are always leaving. But you don't see me yelling about it. Can't you just compromise? Can't you just come home for a little while, dad? How can you fight about this? Don't you know you have to stay together forever? How can you fight about this when you know Jun and I are going through the same thing?" They said nothing as she talked. She banged on the door again. "Talk to me damn it! I'm not invisible!"

Slowly the door knob turned and her mother opened the door. She took one look at her daughter and started to cry. She hugged her. "Oh, Anna. We didn't even think about how you feel. We are so selfish."

Her father stroked her hair. "We shouldn't have done this with you in the house." He looked at Helena. "I'll come home more often. Just like Jun, my family is more important than my job. I should have know that."

Anna cried harder. "Why the hell didn't you just say that earlier instead of yelling!? You are suppose to be adults!"

If there was one thing Anna was good at it was getting people's attention and making them think. Jun leaned against her door frame as he watched the touching family moment. He couldn't help but to wonder if that would be them in a few years. With him working the hours he did.... No. Anna would be there with him when she could. Once she was through with college she could work with him at the office. They would be together all the time. They would be different. He would make time for her no matter what.

Helena held Anna at arm’s length and her father wiped her eyes. "You are absolutely right. We are adults and yelling doesn't resolve anything."

"We are all just a little over stressed," Helena added. "We were bound to pop at some point. But we are so lucky to have you, Anna. You keep us straight."

"What are you going to do when I leave? I'll be moving in with Jun after we marry."

Her father sighed. "I don't want to think about that right now. I don't like the idea of my little girl leaving me just yet."

The pushed Anna down stairs and apologized to Jun for the yelling and the scene. Finally, they were able to sit and have their family dinner. It wasn't long before the tension was gone.

"Jun, if you feel that school is getting in the way of the things you want in life, then I will sign the papers for you to quiet," Anna's dad said.

Her mother turned to her. "Anna, how do you feel about this? You haven't said anything about it."

Anna shrugged. "I don't like it that he doesn't want to be in school, but it's not like he would be missing much if he dropped out. He's always sleeping in class and I don't have time to tutor him. I guess I'll have to work twice as hard for us both so I can graduate fast and go off to college," she said then smiled. "It's not so bad. If Jun is happy then Anna is happy."

"If it'll make everyone happy, when Anna finishes with her classes maybe she can help me study and I can take the test for my GED. Then when business calms down and the corporation is on steady ground I can take more time away from work and take some college courses. It's just right now we're teetering on the edge. Since I've taken over the stock has gone up fifteen percent which is nothing short of a miracle; and the investors really like where the company is heading. It's still too early to tell what will happen though."

He stopped to playfully nudge Anna. "And it's not that I don't want to go to school. It's just that if I have to choose between school and you, I'm going to choose you. As for the sleeping thing, well I did that before I took over dad's business. But now I have a legitimate reason to sleep in class!”

They laughed and Anna smiled. "You're excuses are just that, excuses. And I don't have time for them." She shoved the rest of her food in her mouth. "I have a chem test tomorrow and a history test the day after and a geography test somehow in between the other too." She covered her mouth. "Shit! I have the report! Oh crap!" She ran upstairs before her mother and father could say anything.

"It seems our daughter has picked up some bad habits from up, Mike," her mother said picking at her food. "We never see her. The other day we met with Mia and Anna brought her books. She didn't even bother to look at the designs for the invitations. And when she was showed the center pieces for the tables, she bit one of the plastic fruits."

Anna's dad looked at the stairs. "She has a lot on her plate. At least it’s winter break...wait...it's winter break...why does she have test?"

"She is take early classes. She's knocking out her next semester before it starts so she can go ahead and start on next year’s work. She wants to be able to skip a full grade when summer comes around," her mother said sadly. She looked at Jun. "Ever since you started working late, she's kept herself in her room, working. A few times she had to call me to bring in book reports she left at home because she accidentally took spread sheets she made for you instead. Somehow she still manages to go to your office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays to help you with paperwork and progress."

"Maybe she should go out. What about Reisha? She came over last time I was home but Anna wasn't here," Mike asked.

Helena sighed. "I don't think Anna has even talked to Reisha in days." She stood and walked over to the counter. She grabbed Anna's phone and sat back down. "She doesn't bother to take her phone with her anymore because she says I call too much and it's too distracting. She just turns it off and leaves it off."

Jun listened to her parents. He suddenly felt really bad for Anna. He'd been so busy with work that he didn't see that she was running herself ragged with school. The worst part about all of it was that he couldn't do anything to help her. It wasn't as if he could just throw money at the problem to make it go away. She wanted this, even though she'd always have a job with his company and she wouldn't want for anything. She still wanted to take these classes and go through school.

Jun excused himself from the table and walked up to Anna's room, knocking on her door, he went over and sat on her bed. "Why don't you take a break, Anna? You're killing yourself doing all this. I realized that I couldn't do both school and work...." He took a deep breath. "Maybe you should stop helping me at the office until your plate clears up. That way when you'll have more time to study and be with your family."

Anna laughed and put her pencil down. "I'm fine, really. I just have an extra test than normal this week. I like going to your work, it's the only time I get to see you. And I spent most my life with my family, they can deal with me being upstairs for a few extra hours a day." She rubbed her eyes lightly. "This is important to me, Jun. I don't want to sound mean, but I really want to finish this report." She picked up her pencil and started working again.

Jun gave her a small smile. Going over to her, he moved her face and pressed his lips roughly against her. Letting his tongue dip into her throat he soon pulled himself away. "Okay," he told her, letting his hand linger on her face for a moment. "In that case I'm going to call the office. They've been buzzing me ever since I came home."

Anna nodded and watched him walk out, closing the door behind him. How could she be so close to him but feel so far away? She looked at her school work. She wasn't just doing this for herself, she was doing it for a future with Jun. If she graduated early, then she could start college early and have more time to be at the office with Jun. His company meant a lot to him and she didn't want to stand in the way of his dreams. Yeah, she wanted to spend time with him, and yes, she didn't have a lot of time to spare, but that would all change if he had time to spare too. But he didn't. Staying busy was the only thing that kept her from missing him.

Jun got on his phone to call the company. Of course...they needed him to come in. Looking toward Anna's room he sighed. Even when he's here...he's not. "Okay, yeah, I'll be there in a few." He thought about telling her goodbye, but he didn't want to disturb her. He was already pulling on his coat by the time he got downstairs.

"I've got to go back in...if Anna asks for me let her know I'm sorry and that I love her."

Anna's parents sighed and nodded.

A few moment's later, Anna came running down stairs. "I left a book at the library. Tell Jun I love him," she said grabbing her coat and running out the door before her parents could tell her Jun was gone.

Anna ran out in the snow and walked down the plowed road. She was lucky that her parents lived so near town. Walking was something she did so much of. She ran to the library and shook the snow off her while walking. The staff smiled at her and waved. She was a regular. Anna wasted no time. She went straight to the shelf she needed and started scanning books.

A hand reached out and grabbed a book that Anna was looking on. Blond hair and blue eyes stared at her as he looked at the book. "I'm sorry...did you need this one?" He flashed her a brilliant smile.

Jun rubbed his eyes again, he was having a harder time reading all these documents. It was as if the words were blurry on the page. Yawning, he leafed through another pamphlet before writing something down. He then turned to his computer to check the stock and to see the progress of their current projects.

Anna looked at the young man standing next to her. He looked American, just like her. She couldn't help but smile. It was nice. She hadn't paid much attention before, but now that she looked at him, she recognized that he was taking the same extra classes with her. Of course he would want the same book...the only copy left.

"Umm...yes. Sadly that's the last copy. Would it be too much to ask if we could share?" she asked. "I'm Anna Green. I think we are taking the same classes together."

His eyes widened. "I thought you looked familiar!" Looking down at the book he just smiled. "I don't see why we couldn't share. I'd be a fool not to share with someone as beautiful as yourself. The name is Eric Matthews. It's a pleasure to meet you."

Anna blushed. "I'm flattered, but," she held up her hand, "very much engaged." She smiled again. "You're American. What are you doing in Japan? Is it ok if we speak English?"

"Of course," he said switching over to his native dialect. "I'm American, but Japanese born." He motioned for them to sit at a table nearby. Once seated, he pushed the book toward her. "And what about you?"

Anna opened the book and pulled out her things from her bag. "My parents like to travel and Japan was just suppose to be one of the stops of many, but I got tied down to a guy, and my parents decided to stick around." She looked at him. "That's really cool that you were born here. Have you ever been to America?"

He nodded. "Yes, I went to New York once when I turned sixteen. America is very fascinating, but I still prefer home sweet home." He reached into his bag to grab his stuff as well. "So Ms. Green, who is the lucky guy who has stolen your heart?"

Anna was a little shocked. "You really don't know? With all the press I was sure all of Japan knew. It's Jun Higarashi of the large Higarashi Corporation. How old are you exactly?"

He laughed as she said that. "Wow, I had no idea. I don't really keep up with the press or media. I'm too busy studying." When she asked about his age he smirked. "Seventeen, soon to turn eighteen."

She nodded. "Well, I know what you mean about studying. I haven't had time for anything other than school." She flipped the pages of the book. "We should get started, it's getting late and I want to be home before morning."

They studied together and soon ordered drinks. Because they were both regulars, the library locked their doors, but let them stay. They ended up talking and laughing more than studying.

It was two in the morning by the time Jun got home. He had a pile of papers under his arm and his laptop strung over his shoulder in his bag. He fell down on the couch and rubbed his eyes, trying hard to stifle a yawn. He couldn't believe how late it was. After everything he'd done he was glad to come home. Going upstairs, he went to Anna's room, knocking on it before entering. "Hey-" He stopped when he realized she wasn't in her bed. Where was she?

Eric wrote down his number for Anna. "You can take the book home with you. Just give me a call and we can meet up and trade it back," he said with a smile.

"You're a life saver. Maybe we can study again sometimes. I haven't had much time for a social life and it would be great if I could study while having a life," Anna said as she gathered her things.

"Sounds like fun. I really enjoyed talking to you. It's nice to meet someone who enjoys long hours of studying as much as I do." He picked up his bag as they started outside. "Do you need a ride home?"

Anna looked at her watch. It was really late and she didn't like walking home alone so late. "Yes, that would be great. I don't live far," she said with a smile. She followed him to his car and got in. She showed him which way to go and when they pulled up to her house she thanked him again. "Hopefully next time we can do this when it isn't so late."

He laughed. "Late night studying is the best, though. You don't have to worry about anyone distracting you." He waved to her as she started out. "Take care, I guess I'll see you tomorrow."

Anna smiled. "Yeah, maybe we can do lunch," she said then shut the door and waved to him as he pulled away.

Anna walked to her house and unlocked the door then walked in. She locked the door behind her and slowly made her way upstairs, trying hard not to make a sound.

"You're home late," Jun said, stifling a yawn as he saw her come up the stairs.

Anna froze. She looked up at him. "Yeah. I went to the library to get a book," she said holding the book up.

"Really?" He checked the time. "I didn't think the book store stayed open this late."

"It doesn't but since Eric and I are such regulars, they let us stay so we could share the book. It was the last copy," she said and started to her room. She dropped her back in her floor and took off her coat and boats.

Jun yawned, even as his eyes narrowed. "Eric?"
