Uncomfortable Spring
Meanwhile, Toshiki struggled at work. Don still wasn't a fan. Which
was why today was weird. It was Don who approached him.
“Hey,” he whispered. “Hey. Hey.” Toshiki looked up. His boss stared
at him.
“Yes?” the veteran asked. Don looked around for a moment.
“I need to talk to you about something,” he said. Toshiki
froze.
“Why?” he slowly asked. He raised his eyebrow.
“Not here,” Don said. He turned toward his office.
“Im my office,” he said. Don turned and walked to his door. Toshiki
followed behind. He didn't know what was going on.

Don sighed at his desk. Toshiki sat across from him.
“So… what's wrong?” he asked. Don blinked at first.
“Huh?” he asked.
“Why did you call me in here?” the veteran asked. The boss took a
long pause as he looked nervous.
“I have a little problem,” he finally admitted. The veteran stared,
waiting. Don didn't want to keep talking. Th awkward silence made
him talk.
“I have someone I'm… I'm…” Don said. He paused.
“…Interested in,” he said. Toshiki blinked.
“Okay…” he said. His boss' fate was light red.
“Uh…” he said.
“What about it?” Toshiki asked. Don cleared his throat.
“Um… well… She's American,” he said. “And…” The man paused again.
Toshiki sat silent. Don dropped his shoulders.
“She might not be interested in me,” he said. He buried his face in
his hands.
“Oh…” Toshiki said. Both men sat silent. They dared each other to
say something.
“I'm so sorry!” Don said. “I don't know why I keep talking.”
“It's fine,” the veteran said. That was a lie.
“Um… Can I go now?” Toshiki asked.
“Yes!” Don said.
“Thank you!” the veteran said in a one breath. He stood up and
bowed. The man ran out the office Don sat at his desk with a red
face.
“Oh god,” he muttered. “Why the hell did I do that?”
