Young Dreamers

Sometime in 1990.

He met her at school. How could he be so lucky? Toshiki must be dreaming. He didn't think anyone would show any interest in him. But here he was. And he was about to fuck it up.

Before we get to that, we have to back up some.

-1990, Spring-

They met on the first day of school. Toshiki was rougher back then. A delinquent if you will. But was he really? Now, you know how this love story goes. Delinquent boy meets good girl. They fall in love. You know how it is. She was the one to come to him. It was all chance.

How did it happen? How did two people who have nothing in common meet in the first place? She couldn't explain it herself. The girl walked over to him in the corner of the cafeteria. Her friends called her name, but she ignored them. Toshiki looked up and took notice. She looked like an angel floating down from Heaven to see him.

“What do you want?” he asked. She smiled at him. She introduced herself.

“Okay…” Toshiki said. “So?” She acted like she knew him. Did she know him?

“Mind if I sit down?” she asked. She sat down before he could answer.

“I'm sorry… Do I know you?” Toshiki asked.

“No,” she said, shaking her head. He frowned.

“Then why are you here?” he asked.

“I don't know,” she said.

“You don't?” Toshiki asked. She shook her head. He gave her a strange look. She smiled the whole time.

The encounter was all it took. They kept running into each other. It was her who came to him. He never could figure it out. Still, he didn't chase her away. Toshiki found it nice to have her around. But he didn't know what they were. She decided for him.

-1990, Summer-

“I like you.”

“What?”

“I like you.” Her confession came out of nowhere. Toshiki stared at her. She was being serious too. She had her hand on his. His heart stirred in his chest.

“Um… Uh…” Toshiki felt his face turning red. She tried not to laugh but failed.

“What?” he asked. She covered her face as she laughed.

“Stop!” he shouted. She rested her head on his chest. She had a dreamy look in her eyes. This would have to do for now. He's still trying to figure himself out. She's going to be by his side. He closed his eyes.

“I like you too,” Toshiki said.

“Mmm,” she said. Yes, this would do for now.

Their love grew through their school years. Toshiki was happy to connect with someone. She showered him with her love. They grew as one. Maybe they would have a future together.

And then he had to go and fuck it up.

Now, he's about to do it again. But not if Toshiki can turn it around.
