Please Love Me
Miyukizi was the one to cause the shift in balance. All it took was
one confession.
Don locked himself in his office all day. The man wallowed in his
misery. Miyukizi stood by his door. Toshiki had to run the activity
center and calm everyone down. He looked over at Miyukizi. The
veteran was about to go over to her when one of the women caught up
to him. He turned when she put her hand on his shoulder. She shook
her head. Toshiki frowned.
“Leave her,” his coworker said. He started to say something but
closed his mouth. Instead, both stared at the tenshi-chi.
---------
Don's late wife made her. Miyukizi was her last gift. Her husband
had tears in his eyes.
“You can't mean that,” he said. His wife took him by the hand.
“I don't want you to be alone,” she said. Her husband broke down.
He hadn't recovered since.
Dating hadn't been easy. Don had been married for years. She was
his first love. However, he would have to move on.
It took a while for Don to get used to Miyukizi. She wasn't human.
His wife made her as a companion for him after her death. It wasn't
easy at first. Miyukizi wasn't human. She didn't understand human
emotions. She just did as she was told. The tenshi-chi did the
cooking, housework, paperwork, and social functions. At first with
no emotions. She didn't ask questions. Don couldn't connect with
her. She was just a living doll. Don thought that he would treat
her as such. But what changed? How are things different now?
---------
Miyukizi stood by Don's office door. How long had she been there?
Everyone let her be. Their boss wasn't in a good mood. He barely
left his office. He didn't even come out for lunch. It had been
three days. Maybe Miyukizi could snap him out of it.
The tenshi-chi knocked on the door.
“Enter,” Don said in a muffled voice. Miyukizi hesitated. This was
new to her. She was aware of her heart and emotions. This was it.
Miyukizi could tell him how she felt. But could she do it?
“Enter,” Don said. His secretary stiffened and opened the door.
Don sat in the dark at his desk. He looked up with puffy red
eyes.
“Yeah?” he asked. Miyukizi closed the door behind her. She lifted
her head. Her cheeks were bright red.
“I like you!” the tenshi-chi blurted out. Don froze as he looked
up.
“What?” he asked. Her face turned bright red.
“I like you!” she blurted out again. Neither one spoke. Don gave
her a blank stare. He blinked at first.
“I'm sorry?” he asked. Did he hear that right? Miyukizi took
another breath.
“I—” she began again. Don held up his hand.
“No!” he was quick to say. “No, no. I heard you!” Miyukizi drew her
mouth closed. It took a while for her words to sink in. Her boss
tried to form a response. His thoughts died in his brain. Miyukizi
started to look worried.
“Don?” she asked. His mouth hung open. From that moment on, things
were going to be different. Would it be good? Would it be bad? They
were going to have to see.
