Falling
The affection didn't stop. Now, I have never been that fit. My
school years were a nightmare. I was just awkward. I was awkward at
university. Same in my twenties. What is happening?
Nathan was the start. He's been sending me roses and chocolates at
work. He asked me to date him. I don't know how I feel about this.
He's not the only one either.
Every bloke in the city keeps looking at me. What is happening?
This had to be a weird dream.
I pinched my right cheek.
No. This is real. And kind of creepy. I don't know how to deal with
it. So, I just force myself to smile and take the attention.
The morning would be no different. I got up, got dressed, had
breakfast, and went to work. Pretty simple, right? Expect for all
the eyes on me. I tried to ignore it at first.
I don't know what I have been doing. I haven't done much. I did
comb my hair and dress a little bit nicer. I still see James around
the office. His puppy dog eyes make me want to punch him. Now he
wants me back? Is he kidding? James never wanted me that much when
we were together. He just wants what he can't have. Typical. Just
typical.
Things between my boss and I are still awkward. I haven't answered
him on dating him. My face turned red before I turned and ran. I
can't really avoid him at work. Nathan is my boss. He hadn't tried
to reach out to me. I don't know how to take that.
Then there's Hal. Sweet, sweet Hal. I can't tell what he's thinking
lately. He looks so nervous around me. Almost like he wants to say
something.
“What's wrong?” I would ask. Hal forced himself to grin last
night.
“Nothing,” he lied. I titled my head. I didn't want to pry but I
had to know.
“Good morning,” I greeted the receptionist. Dawn looked up at me
while on the phone and rolled her eyes. I frowned and waved. Okay
then…
I made it to my desk. Another day again. There are more eyes on me.
I shook my head to myself. So annoying.
“Hey Bridget,” I heard over my head. I looked up to see James. I
rolled my eyes. Now what does he want? I sighed and dropped my
pen.
“What do you want, James?” I asked. He had a nervous look on his
face.
“Um… I have a favor to ask you,” he said. I already knew what was
coming next.
“No,” I said.
“Please?” he pleaded. I could already see where this was going.
Then James said what I predicted he would say.
