The young, fifteen year old girl glanced back at her home. She looked longingly at what used to be the window of her bedroom. Everything in that room was gone, or at least everything that held value to her.

And where did all that stuff go to?

It all went to the back of green van. Every memory of her childhood and beyond was packed ever so neatly into that van. It was amazing how little her childhood meant, as she had not so much childhood stuff, but a great amount of new things. Of course gifts from her two of her loveliest, and only, friends.

That van was going to be her and her best friend’s home, until they found a suitable place to live. Or at least a suitable school for the two of them, since their old school held some gruesome memories. Gruesome memories that she didn’t want to relive ever again.

So of course a change of schools would definitely be best for those two.

The girl, after finally putting in the last bag, slid down the side of the van, and glanced up again at the house. That pale, beige house, with it’s brown shingled roof.

Yes, she was going to miss it all so much. It pained her to leave, but she knew she had to.

As she began to stand up, a few faint cries could be heard from the garden that almost completely surrounded the house. She scanned the area with her unusually grey eyes, until finally she could locate the sound of the cries. “Atavan!” She cried out in happiness. She hurriedly got herself over to a bush. But it wasn’t the bush she was interested in.

Oh no. It was what was under the bush that she wanted.

A small, skinny cat, with spots of brown and black splattered about, with white at her feet. This cat seemed to be owned by the girl, as it responded to the girl’s happy cries with a pleasant ‘Mew’.

“Oh Atavan! I would never forget you! You’re coming with me, my beautiful little friend.” The girl said, smiling at the cat.

The cat was beautiful. It looked like a kitten, which seemed appropriate, as it’s age was only a good two years.

But, where did the name come from?

Well, the Kitten’s full name is Atavan Halen. And the name was from a song, called 7 Minutes In Heaven (Atavan Halen), by Fall Out Boy. The song was a more poetic version of Pete Wentz’s attempted suicide. So of course it was only fitting that she got Atavan as a gift, during a time where she almost made the same mistake as Mr. Peter Wentz.

She picked Atavan up, and snuggled her close, until she got over to the van. She placed the cat down, and ran into the garage to get some cat supplies, just for her little friend.

“C’mon Cassie! Let’s go! You don’t want you’re dad stopping us from leaving, do ya?” a youngish looking boy called, from the top of the van. He sat perched at the top, as the “Lookout” for them. Really, it was all just so he could have some fun while Cassie did all the work.

She just smiled, and said, “Okay. I think I’ve gotten everything. And I even managed to score us some money. Thanks to my dear father.” She said, hopping into the back of the van. The boy looked at her, wondering if she was serious.

An instant breakout of laughter assured him that she was joking. So he laughed along, brushing his emo-style flippy hair out of his face at occasions. The boy jumped into the front seat, with Cassie joining him in the passenger seat. “All right Ehren, let’s leave this High-strung town.” She smiled, quoting a song that their band, ‘Anywhere But Home’, wrote.

Ehren just smiled, his two snakebites glinting in the light. “All right, just make sure you’ve remembered everything this time, sexy.” Ehren said, using his ever so amazing nickname for the short haired girl.

She rolled her eyes, and said, “I don’t believe the truth of that nickname, you know.” She told him, with a dull sound. He smiled. “The best part of believe is the lie, my dear friend.” He quoted the Fall Out Boy song. She giggled. “All right, you got me there, Ehren. You know quoting bands is my weakness. I never know how to respond.” She told him. He stayed silent, but turned back to the steering wheel and smiled.
But the smile soon faded as that ever so familiar mini-van tore down the end of the road.

“Shit! Cassie! We gotta go now!” Ehren exclaimed, sounding really urgent. She looked up, confused, but saw what they had feared the most. Ehren, who had already had the car started and warmed up, quickly buckled up, and put his foot to the pedal.

He turned the car the opposite direction of Cassie’s father, as a head on collision would not have been avoided. But he knew either way, that they were both screwed.

Now her dad knew about them sneaking away, and now he’d be at their asses until Cassie returned home.

And Cassie hoped that time would be never.

So of course she wasn’t going to allow for her cover to be blown now. But she had to think fast, and find another way out of their cruddy town. And suddenly it came to her.

“Ehren! Take a left turn here, then a right, and then go straight down. There’s a mall around this area, and we can hide amongst everything. I used to do it as a little kid. He’ll never find us.” She said, pointing out the directions from her position in the back part of the van. He nodded, and followed her directions exactly, bringing them to the mall. He quickly parked the car in a hidden spot, locked it, and the two ran out.

“We’re gonna go into JCPenney’s, and there will be tons of clothes to hide in. He’ll never find us, especially in women’s.” She told Ehren. All’s he did was nod, and follow, for he didn’t get one bit of her plan. But he went with it.

After all, she was usually the brains of the operation, while Ehren, Ehren was the beauty. Like Pete Wentz once said, “I’m just here to make thinks sexier”. It described his role in everything perfectly.

The two raced into the big doors of the store, not bothering to let them close softly, which made everyone aware of their arrival. And some people didn’t like it. Some workers in JCPenney’s didn’t like to see punks in their store, and would rather not be sullied by them.

But Ehren and Cassie never seemed to listen, as they always came back, despite the looks and glares of them all.

After they so rudely introduced themselves, they could sense her father coming closer to the store. So they crash landed into a rack of clothes, ignoring the rude comments people made, such as, “Hey, you little prick! Stop acting like a child!”, or “You two little punks are gonna get your asses kicked some day for being gay.”

And of course the last comment sent Cassie haywire. Because her most hated insult was when people tried to use Gay or Fag as a rude insulting term, or not to it’s proper usage.
And of course it was, none other than, a prep who made the comment. And this was no pretty prep. She was somewhat fat, with these ugly, incredibly short shorts on, which really left nothing to the imagination. Plus, you could see her disgusting thong sticking out of her fat ass crack. It was a sickening sight, and it made Cassie wonder why mothers didn’t cover their children’s eyes at the sight of her.

“Don’t you dare fucking say that! I have the right mind to kick your fucking ass right here and now for that little fuck off remark of yours! I dare you to go into a gay community and say that, see who doesn’t kick your ass. YOU should be the one with your ass getting kicked. Oh, but I see the issue here... Your fat ugly ass is too god damn big for any one person to kick at once!” Cassie went off into a rant, about how ugly the girl was, and how fat she was. When the girl looked shocked and hurt, Cassie decided to go on.

“Yeah, I don’t know why they don’t label you as ‘Wide load, caution!’ on your huge ass. There’s definitely enough room. And while you’re at it, pull up your fucking pants, and go buy some longer pants, you fucking slut.” Cassie spit at the girl. “You fucking disgust me!” She yelled, causing so much attention around her. Ehren just giggled nervously, and pulled Cassie away. “Cassie, we’re still escaping from impending doom. Now’s not the time to make enemies...” Ehren warned her. Cassie just kept glaring at the girl, but allowed Ehren to remove her from the store.

“Well this is just great! Where are we gonna hide out now?” Ehren asked, now slightly angry. Cassie didn’t answer. She was too busy thinking over everything. But it was when she heard a voice nearby that caught her attention. “D-dad?” She whispered, hearing his dreaded voice. “Ehren, move! I know where to go!” She said, pushing him to run when she realized how close they were to her father. Ehren again just went with it. They ran for nearly five minutes, until Cassie abruptly stopped and smiled.

Ehren, after almost crashing into Cassie, just looked up at the sign. “Hot topic? You expect your dad not to know that we are in Hot Topic? You’ve fucking lost it man...” He told her. But she shook her head, and smiled. “No... It’s perfect.” She said, now abruptly running into the store. She ran, looking behind her at Ehren, and crashed right into an employee of the store. “I’m sorry.” She repeated, rubbing her head, without bothering to look up at him. The employee just laughed, and held out his hand to pick her up. Here is where she opened her eyes.

And here is where she saw the most breathtaking sight in her whole life. She was so speechless. All she could do was grab his hand, and she could barely do that either. She looked at him, and brushed back a few strands of hair.

He smiled sweetly at her, his soft brown eyes seeming to smile along with him. His hair was long and black, with one side being just a bit longer than the other. It was like a typical emo-style, with one side flipped. He flipped his head, making the hair fly to the side. “I’m sorry, that was totally all my fault. I’m really sorry.” The employee said, scratching the back of his head nervously.

Ehren just looked at him oddly. “It wasn’t your fault. It was Cassie’s.” Ehren told the boy, who looked to be about Cassie’s age, and was just about her height. Cassie just glared at Ehren, but turned back to the employee.

He smiled as he laughed at Ehren’s comment. Then he turned back to Cassie. “My name’s Joey. Pleased to meet you both.” Joey told them, politely introducing himself to the two friends. Cassie smiled at the name. “Oh... Joey... I like that name.” She sighed dreamily. Joey just smiled. “Thanks, but I hate it. Why couldn’t my parents name me Bob? Then I’d be a kick ass drummer.” He smiled. “I like your name more. You never hear it much anymore.” He said.

Cassie nodded, which ended the conversation. But that was only because that oh-so familiar voice was heard once more, and was still searching for the two best friends. Their faces were struck with terror, and now were less calm than before. “Joey, you gotta help us!” Ehren said, jumping away from the doorway. Joey just looked confused for a moment, but nodded anyways.

“There’s a man that’s looking for us and if he finds us, we’re screwed over good.” Cassie told him. This made Joey intrigued by them. “Oh. So you need somewhere to hide? Is that it?” He asked. They both nodded. Joey’s smile came back once again. “Don’t worry. I’ll show you the perfect place to hide.” He said, ushering them into the back of the store, behind a door for the employees.

“Just stay here, and I’ll get him to go away for sure.” Joey told the two. Ehren and Cassie didn’t disagree. They hurriedly went into the back room, and sat there patiently– until they heard him.

Cassie’s father had finally thought enough to go to Hot Topic, one of their favorite stores, and would have been the number one hiding spot for the two. And of course Cassie and Ehren were regulars at any Hot Topic, so they were bound to be known there.

“Hello, welcome to Hot Topic. How may I help you?” Joey asked her father, putting on an act, to keep him from getting suspicious. Cassie’s father, John, just looked around, trying to get past Joey in the doorway. “Well, I’m looking for my daughter, Cassie, and her friend, uh... what’s his face.” He told Joey. Ehren got pissed that John didn’t know his name, but he calmed himself down. “The names sound familiar... What do they look like?” Joey asked, still acting. John calmly explained Cassie, and could barely get out a description of Ehren, but Joey seemed to get the idea.

He listened intently, as if he really wanted to help. And almost a second after John stopped, Joey responded with, “Ah yes! They came in here a little while ago. I saw them leave through the food court. Maybe they went home?” Joey shrugged. “They seemed to be talking about going home, so maybe they are there.” He told him. John nodded, falling for the mysterious boy’s trick. “Thank you! Here, a tip.” John said, handing Joey a twenty dollar bill. Joey smiled kindly. “Thank you, sir.” He bowed politely, just keeping up his act.

At this, almost on cue, John ran off, swearing softly to himself.

Joey still wore his smile, but it faded as he erupted in laughter. “Fucking idiot.” He cracked up. Ehren and Cassie came out of the back, and saw Joey’s laughter, and they too laughed. For Joey’s act was so perfect, they even began to believe it.

And then a smile appeared on all three of their faces, as a song that they all knew quite well came on the radio. And of course the two best friends recited every word of the opening, which was only in the music video. “You like D&D, Audrey Hepburn, Fangoria, Harry Houdini, and croquet. You can’t swim, you can’t dance, and you don’t know Karate. Face it. You’re never gonna make it.” Ehren started, beginning their favorite video opening ever. Cassie continued it with, “But I don’t wanna make it. I just wanna....” Then the guitars kicked in, and Joey did and air guitar impression of Ray. It all ended up with them laughing hysterically at their antics.

After Cassie wiped a tear from her eyes, she sighed happily, and said, “Oh, Joey. We were meant to be friends. Fate brought us together.” Joey smiled. “Yup. But fate might have to tear us apart too.” Ehren said, looking down. “Why?” Joey and Cassie both asked, panicked. “Well, cuz we can’t stay here overnight. We’d get arrested.” Ehren told them.

But Joey was quick to respond with, “Not so, my dear friend. I stay here all the time. Some people have late night shifts, and stay in the mall all night. There’s really no security guards, as they all fall asleep in their post stands. We’re actually far from their post, which is sort of sound proof, so they can’t hear. We can stay all night if you’d like.”

Cassie and Ehren looked at each other with delight, then back at Joey. “Yay! All night sleep over in the mall!” They yelled, and tackle hugged Joey. He laughed, and said, “So it’s settled, an all night sleep over in the mall, with my two new friends.” “This is gonna be one hell of a night!” Ehren exclaimed happily, as they all tackled each other on the ground.

And then they erupted in laughter once again, for this new found friendship seemed to be fit to last, as once again another favorite came on the radio. It was Disenchanted, but Cassie was too distracted to sing. Joey had stood up, and begun singing, but not in a joking way. It was more of a graceful, serious singing, which captivated her. She couldn’t help but stare at him, as he almost moved her to tears with the song.

She turned her head, as if trying to look at something else, but really couldn’t do it to well. Joey stopped and looked down at her. “Hey, you all right?” He asked, putting his hand on her shoulder. She smiled, and said, “I’m okay, I promise.” She told him. He smiled back, hoping his new friend meant it.

And then Joey helped Cassie up, and they all finished off one of the best of the new My Chemical Romance songs ever. At that moment singing with Joey was the best thing ever for Cassie, and she knew that this friendship would last forever, and nothing could destroy the new bond they all shared.
