Romance Fan Fiction ❯ Enemy of the Stars (A Stars Above Sequel) ❯ Chapter 5: The Final Night ( Chapter 5 )
Rapunzel stared at one of the pictures from her time in Corona. She rubbed the edges of the photo with her thumb and sighed. Cassandra entered the room and was immediately at Rapunzel's side. “You okay?
Rapunzel nodded. “...Yeah...” She replied. “I’m just really gonna miss home. I wish we didn’t have to leave.”
Cassandra sighed. “Yeah, me too. But you know-”
“...We have to, I know,” Rapunzel responded quietly. It was officially their last night in Corona. Since they doubted they could ever return, Nova was staying with her grandparents for one final night. Cassandra’s heart clenched at the pained, distant expression on her lover's face. She tried to think of anything that would make her feel better… Then an idea popped up in her mind.
Cassandra smiled and grabbed the princess’s hand, making Rapunzel direct her attention toward her. “Enough packing for now. Let’s go get some fresh air,” When Rapunzel only gave her a skeptical expression, Cassandra added: “You don’t want to spend our last night in Corona stuck inside, do you?”
“You do know that it’s really late, right? I doubt anyone’s awake anyway.”
“So what?” Cassandra responded with a cute tilt of her head. “Doesn’t mean we can’t go out and enjoy the night. Come on,” Cassandra lent her hand out to the princess with a gentle-men-like smile. Rapunzel seemed to stare at it for a second or two, probably deciding whether she wanted to go or not before she smiled and grabbed the warrior’s hand who immediately pulled her to her feet. Cassandra never let go of her hand and neither did Rapunzel.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cassandra and Rapunzel walked hand-in-hand down the familiar streets. “We have a lot of good memories here, huh?” Rapunzel said after some minutes.
Cassandra chuckled. “We’ve also had a lot of bad.”
Rapunzel smiled and leaned against her. “Yeah but the good outweighs the bad. I mean, this is where we met, after all.” Rapunzel then giggled. “You couldn’t stand me at first.”
Cassandra shook her head with a smile. “I wasn’t really ready to be a babysitter to a recently isolated princess who got herself into trouble everywhere we went.” She teased. Rapunzel elbowed her playfully, making the warrior laugh. “But once I got to know you, you weren’t all that bad.”
“‘Not that bad', huh? Please, you fell for me only a couple of months after we became official friends. Maybe I didn’t notice it then but I sure do now.”
“It wasn’t on purpose,” Cassandra wrapped an arm around her. “It was frustrating, quite honestly.”
Rapunzel giggled. “Is falling in love with someone ever on purpose?”
Cassandra smiled. “I guess not.” She then shrugged. “I don’t think I even quite fully realized it till later. Or, at least, I didn’t stop denying it until later.”
“Well, it took me like 4 years to realize, sooo…”
“Better late than never.”
Rapunzel giggled again. “I can’t believe how oblivious I was. It was so obvious.”
Cass looked away. “Oh come on, it wasn’t that obvious.”
Rapunzel laughed, causing Cass to grin. “You kidding? You literally put yourself between me and danger. Which was pretty stupid, if you ask me.”
“Good thing I didn’t ask then, huh?” Cassandra teased. Rapunzel huffed, but a grin betrayed her, and elbowed her, making Cassandra laugh.
Suddenly Rapunzel’s eyes softened as she hooked her arm through Cassandra’s and lay her head on her shoulder. “I love you, Cass. I really, really do.”
Cassandra smiled and leaned against her. “I love you too, Raps. More than you’ll ever know.”
“Not more than I do, though,”
“I beg to differ. I love you more.”
“No way.”
“I’m older so therefore, I win.”
Rapunzel laughed. “How does that work?”
“Because I said so.”
Rapunzel rolled her eyes with a smile and leaned up to press a kiss to her lips. “I say we agree to disagree.”
Rapunzel’s smile was contagious as Cassandra pressed a small kiss to the top of her head. “Fine.” When Rapunzel giggled again, Cassandra’s heart warmed. “It’s good to see you smiling again.”
Rapunzel’s smile turned to one of warmth and kindness as she leaned herself more against Cassandra. “It’s all because of you,” Rapunzel spoke before she looked downward. “...I should’ve told you everything sooner. I left you out of it and that wasn’t fair. Especially considering I’ve been on you about sharing your feelings and talking with me for years.”
Cassandra smiled sweetly and unhooked her arm from Rapunzel’s then wrapped it around her shoulders and brought her closer. “It’s alright, Raps.”
Rapunzel slowly shook her head. “It’s not alright. You’re right - I did take vows and I completely ignored them. I don’t even know why I didn’t tell you. I’m so confused about a lot of things right now and I’m scared… it’ll never get better and I’ll just keep accidentally lashing out at you or even Nova… or anyone. I keep hurting you time and time again with the same dumb mistakes.``
Cassandra’s frowned as she stopped them in the middle of the road. She moved in front of Rapunzel then she grasped her hands and interlocked their fingers, bringing them to face-level before she stared deep into her eyes. “We’ll figure this out, okay? We always do.” Cassandra smiled sweetly and raised her hand to softly place it on her cheek. “I thought the same thing, especially after the whole moonstone fiasco. But then you came along and gave me a whole new perspective on things.” She pulled Rapunzel forward and pressed a small, lasting kiss to her forehead. “Everything’s gonna be okay.”
Rapunzel leaned into her and sighed softly. “I sure hope you’re right.”
Cassandra pulled back and gave her a teasing grin. “Am I ever wrong?”
Rapunzel giggled softly but Cass could tell it wasn’t to the full extent. “I guess not.” But then her smile fell.
Wanting to cheer her up, Cass could only think of one thing. “Hey, we’ve spent enough time out here, don’t you think? Why don’t we go back home and…” Cassandra pulled her against her body by her hips, making the princess squeak in surprise. “...relax.”
Rapunzel’s eye’s darkened quickly as she pushed herself up until their lips were barely an inch apart. “If we go home and 'relax’, as you are referring, I don’t think we are gonna be doing much relaxing.”
“Then let’s say we make our last night in Corona memorable?”
“...Yeah, let's.”
---------------------------------------------------------------
Rapunzel barely had time to close and lock the door before Cassandra was on her. She was pushed into a wall, Cassandra’s mouth already on hers as the warrior rocked into her. Rapunzel groaned and wrapped her arms around Cassandra’s neck, pushing herself even closer. It took no time at all for their clothes to be ripped away and as soon as they were Cassandra wasted no time trailing her hand down Rapunzel’s body before easily inserting two fingers into her. Rapunzel threw her head back and moaned deeply.
Cassandra smirked that heated smirk that Rapunzel loved as much as she hated. “Wet already, hm? We barely started.”
Rapunzel tried to glare at her but Cassandra thrust against her as well as pressed herself deeper. “S-Shut up.”
“Now, is that any way to talk to me?” Cassandra roughly thrust against her, making Rapunzel let out a surprised moan.
Rapunzel let out a teasing grin, her eyes hooded. “Oh, I’m oh so sorry, mistress.”
“Got jokes, huh?”
Rapunzel couldn’t help but raise her hand and place it on her cheek; hoping that the action would benefit her in not getting ‘punished’, as Cass would say. As much as she loved it, she wanted tonight to be different. Sweet, loving, gentle, soft caress’s… she really needed it. “Hate to break it to ya love, but you set yourself up for it.”
As always, Cassandra knew exactly what she wanted as the warrior removed her fingers and brushed Rapunzel’s hair out of her face with her other hand. She then leaned forward until their lips were brushing each other but she didn’t press the rest of the way forward. “You wanna know what else I’m setting myself up for?” She whispered hotly. Rapunzel couldn’t seem to respond as she made a small humming sound of recognition and stared at Cassandra’s lips. Cass smirked. “This~” As soon as that last word came out, Cassandra pushed her up against the wall so that her legs were wrapped around her waist and easily thrusted into her.
Rapunzel threw her head back with a surprised moan. “How did you-”
Cassandra only smirked and thrused into her. “I’m way sneakier than you think, baby~”
“W-What’s with all the pet names today?”
Cassandra gave her a knowing grin. “I can stop?”
As she knew, Rapunzel quickly shook her head. “No, no... I like it.”
“Yeah,” Cassandra leaned forward. “Thought so.” With that, she caught Rapunzel’s lips into a fiery kiss as she slowly thrusted in and out of her. Rapunzel groaned against her lips, making Cass grin. Wrapping her arms around her neck, Rapunzel kissed Cassandra back just as passionate and fiery as she was. Their tongues swirled each other as they kissed like they never kissed before. Bit by bit, Cassandra sped up and the harshness of her thrusts became quicker and faster; her hips doing circles. It was a slow burn that sent butterflies lay deep into Rapunzel’s abdomen and made her senses more awake than ever. It was almost torturous. But it felt so good. And, of course, Cassandra knew this.
Eventually, Rapunzel couldn’t hold onto Cassandra’s lips anymore as she pulled away and threw her head back. Her head fell against the wall and she moaned deeply. Cassandra attacked her neck; taking time to press kisses wherever she could reach, she licked and nipped gently as well as pressed a soft kiss to her pulse, sucking gently. She ran her warm, unusually soft hands all over Rapunzel’s body. All these little things were driving Rapunzel crazy, as Cassandra knew, but she also couldn’t have felt more loved at that moment. With how gentle and loving she was being…The way she gently ran her hands all over her body, the way she lingered her hands in certain areas and took extra time to make sure she got her message across; her soft caress’s that were minor but not unnoticed… all of it made Rapunzel feel loved and appreciated… and important.
Suddenly, Cassandra moved them from the wall and turned towards their bed. Usually, she would pretty much just throw her on it but this time, she placed her gently on the bed before climbing up her body and recatching her lips into a soft, loving kiss. Rapunzel's eyes slowly drifted shut as she pushed herself even closer and kissed her even deeper. When air became a necessity, they both let go of each other’s lips but they didn’t pull away as they stared deeply into each other’s eyes. No words were shared; their eyes told each other exactly what they were feeling.
Cassandra smiled sweetly and nuzzled the princess with her nose. Rapunzel returned the smile and pressed a quick, soft kiss to her lips. Cassandra nuzzled her a second time before she pulled back and grabbed both of Rapunzel’s legs, putting them over her shoulders to make her more open. When that was done, she thrust forward, the sudden wave of pleasure taking Rapunzel off guard. “A-Ah!” Cassandra smirked and slowly started to thrust in and out of her like before, this time much slower. The burn spread all throughout Rapunzel’s body until it was almost painful. “C-Cass… please..” Rapunzel begged.
“What do you want, Rapunzel?” Cassandra said softly as she continued her tortuous thrusts.
These painful, pleasurable thrusts made it nearly impossible to talk nor function but Rapunzel needed more. “A-Ah… I... I need… mm…”
Cassandra couldn’t help but smirk at the fact that she couldn't even form a sentence. She leaned forward and whispered into the princess’s ear: “What do you want, Rapunzel?” She repeated, gently blowing air into her, which made Rapunzel shiver.
“F-Faster…” Rapunzel was able to make out. Cassandra pulled back and decided to take pity on the poor girl. She abided by her wishes as she slowly started to pick up her thrusts. As Cassandra got faster and faster, Rapunzel tightly gripped the sheets, her moans growing. Her breasts bounced with the force of the much faster and harsher thrusts. Cassandra leaned forward and without slowing down, caught Rapunzel’s lips and started kissing her feverishly.
Rapunzel tried to keep up but her mind was barely functioning at that point. Cassandra continued to lovingly trail her hands all throughout her body before she brought both her hands up to Rapunzel’s face and griped her cheeks gently. She pulled her closer as she loving rubbed her thumb over her cheek. Rapunzel was able to lift her arms and wrap them around Cassandra's neck. At a certain point, the princess was unable to function anymore as she let go of Cassandra’s lips and her head fell on the pillow.
“C-Cass… p-please?”
Cassandra knew exactly what she wanted. “Well, since you asked so nicely.” She quickened her thrusts but this time, she made them deep, harsh, and short as she reached between them and started rubbing the princess in all the right places. It didn’t take long before a release crept up on Rapunzel as her mouth went slack, her body rigid, and she forgot how to breathe. Cassandra wasn’t far behind her as she buried herself to the hilt, groaned, and held on for the ride. Once she could kind of move, Cass shakily removed herself from Rapunzel, took off the contraption, and threw it somewhere in the room before plopping next to the panting princess. It took a bit before both women could finally catch their breath.
Rapunzel turned her head slightly, her head falling to the side, her hair fanning over her face as she smiled at Cassandra. “You’re amazing, you know that?”
Cassandra grinned cockily. “So I’ve been told.”
Rapunzel giggled at her wife’s usual cockiness. “I don’t just mean with this. I mean with everything. I know I’ve said it so much the last couple of days but I feel like I don’t say it enough. You’ve been doing so much for me… even putting up with the destructive behavior and me constantly pushing you away… I really haven’t been the nicest to you lately and I’ve said some hurtful things. But you haven’t once turned away or given up…” Suddenly, Rapunzel’s expression changed into one of what Cass could only describe as insecurity. “...why?”
Cassandra’s heart broke at the insecure, unsure expression on her face as she leaned forward and pressed a small kiss to her forehead. She lingered her lips there for a second before responding: “Because I love you.” She paused. “...and you did the same for me. You can push me, yell at me, call me names, even hate me… I wouldn’t care. You need me right now just like how I needed you. I took vows too and I promised I would take care of you and that’s never gonna change. You’re my best friend, my life, and I hate… seeing you go through all this; knowing that there isn’t much I can do. If I could, I would take all your pain and put it onto myself. But I can’t. So, as I’ve said if there’s even the slightest chance that I can make you feel better… I’d do anything. I’d do anything for you.”
Rapunzel couldn’t help but tear up at the declaration as she let out a watery laugh. “God, what did I do to deserve someone like you?”
Cassandra smiled sweetly and wiped her tears with her thumb. “Easy. You get what you give out and you’ve given a lot for me. You fought for me when no one else would; even myself. You believed in me when no one else could. You were there when I needed it most. You’ve never given up on me, so why should I give up on you?”
Rapunzel shrugged. “I just did what any normal friend would do. You needed someone and I was more than willing to be that someone. I didn’t do much. Besides, I’ve also made some pretty huge mistakes…”
“Are you kidding? You changed my life, Raps, in so many good ways. You made me want to live and you pushed me to actually live my life; one that I now share with you and Nova. I grew up thinking I would never have anyone I could count on; I never thought I’d be able to have a family. And all that and more was possible because of you. All my dreams - everything that I’ve ever wanted… even if I didn’t exactly know what it was that I wanted.. were able to come true because of you. A ‘normal friend’ never would have done any of that. No one I have ever met is as caring, loyal, and amazing as you are. And I know for a fact that anyone who has ever met you, other than jealous demons, will agree. And I’ve made mistakes too... I tried to hurt you. But the good outweighs the bad, as you always say. And trust me, you’ve done more good than bad.”
Rapunzel was in shocked disbelief. Sure - she did do all those things. But she always thought it was just what she was supposed to be doing. It was second nature to her. She couldn’t even imagine why someone would purposely want to hurt Cassandra or anyone for that matter. She was just doing what any good friend would… she never thought that doing those things… would change someone, or someone’s, life. “...Really..?”
Cassandra smiled down at her and nodded. “Absolutely." She then sighed, her smile dropping. "Rapunzel, I was at my absolute lowest. I turned my back on you and I lied to you. I broke promises and I literally tried to kill you. I unnecessarily put people’s lives in danger and I practically mutilated Corona. I also brought an enraged demon into the walls which could have ended super bad. Most people would have given up on me. The rest of Corona did. Even Eugene did. Even my father did. But you didn’t. You saw something in me that I couldn’t even see and you fought for me on blind trust and hope. I could have very well really hurt you or worse… killed you… but instead of leaving me behind, you didn’t give up. I called you some pretty horrible things and you never responded with anything of the sort. There aren’t many people like you." She smiled once more as she rubbed her thumb lovingly over the princess's cheek.
"Actually, I believe there isn’t anyone like you. You’re special, unique, different, a good different! And… amazing. You’re really one of a kind.” Cassandra’s smile dropped a second time. “...And that’s why a world without you… is not a world worth living in because you really are one of a kind. This world is cold, heartless, cruel, and dark… but you spread light and sunshine everywhere you go. You give hope that there is actual good in this world. Maybe you don’t see it, but you’ve changed so many lives and brought light back into them. I’ve lived in darkness my whole life and as soon as I met you, my world exploded into color. You always say how lucky you are to have me but in reality, I’m the luckiest person in the entire universe and beyond. Anyway who gets to call you a friend is. But the fact that I can call you more than that… just thinking about it makes me feel warm, found, and at home. Both you and Nova mean everything to me. You guys are my everything. I wouldn’t be who I am today if not for you. Y-”
She didn’t get to finish cause suddenly, Rapunzel launched herself forward and wrapped her arms around Cassandra’s torso, and dug her face into her chest. “T-Thank you…” She heard Rapunzel’s watery voice say quietly. Cassandra smiled and wrapped both arms around her.
“...You don’t need to thank me, love. Like I said - I love you more than you’ll ever know.” Rapunzel didn’t respond but Cassandra could feel her tighten her hold and against her chest, she felt a smile form. She could clearly feel the wetness that spread across the warrior’s chest as well. Cassandra smiled a second time and pressed a loving kiss to the top of her head. “I love you, Rapunzel.”
“...I love you too, Cassandra.” Rapunzel’s watery voice eventually spoke, her voice still muffled. Cassandra smiled and cuddled her tightly and ran her hands through her hair until she was sure that the princess had fallen asleep. Even after the fact, she didn’t stop combing through her hair; it was just as therapeutic for her as it was for Rapunzel. Cassandra could tell that the princess had started to gain some weight again. Good. She was so skinny and frail before… It wasn’t much, but it was a start. With that in mind, it didn’t take long before Cassandra slowly drifted off to sleep herself, Rapunzel protectively in her hold.
The next day, Cassandra and Rapunzel had said their emotional goodbyes to their friends earlier in the day and they were finally leaving Corona in less than 20 minutes. Rapunzel was able to spend the morning with her parents and all three of them, Nova included, were able to spend the rest of the day with their friends. Rapunzel, being Rapunzel, wanted to say goodbye to everyone in town so Cassandra told her to meet her around 3 pm on the outskirts of town. Well, it was currently 2:45, and the king so happened to 'summon' her. She had no idea why and she wasn’t sure if she wanted to know. Why would he want her of all people?
Cassandra went to knock on the gigantic door but she heard a gruff “Come in.” She slowly pushed the door open and there he was in his usual stance, his hands behind his back as he stood tall and stared out the window overlooking the city.
“You wanted to see me?” Cassandra spoke, her voice slightly aggravated but still polite.
“Ah, Cassandra.” The king spoke slightly bitterly. “I called you 10 minutes ago.”
Cassandra rolled her eyes. “Well, I’m sorry I wasn’t here by your standards, your highness.” She spat. Although it had been years, the king and the warrior still couldn’t stand each other.
“I wanted to talk to you.” The king narrowed his eyes.
“Yeah, I figured that,” Cassandra responded sarcastically. She crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. “Well, get on with it then. I kinda have somewhere I need to be.”
The king clenched his fists. Cassandra had to hold back a smirk. The king couldn’t technically do anything to her so she loved pushing his buttons. He seemed to take a deep breath before reopening his eyes and he started to talk. “I’ve never liked you,” The king started off.
“The feelings are mutual.”
The king mumbled angrily before continuing. “But you mean a lot to my daughter and you are technically the other mother of my grandchild. I don’t know why - In my opinion, I think you're an over-cocky, selfish, rude young lady.”
“Good thing no one asked for your opinion then.”
“Will you just shut up and listen for a second? This is important.”
Cassandra narrowed her eyes. “Fine. Why did you call me here?”
“Because I need to ask you a favor.”
“Yo-” Cassandra was getting ready to defend herself but stopped short. Did she hear that right? “What?”
The king sighed and for once since she’s known him, his shoulders sagged and his posture broke. “I’ve seen the changes in my daughter, too. The same changes I know you’ve seen.” Cassandra didn’t say anything. “...So, I guess what I’m asking is… take care of them. Please. As much as I hate it, it’s not my job to watch out and take care of her anymore.”
Cassandra was honestly taken aback by the sudden declaration. Cassandra was silent for a bit before she stood tall and nodded. “I won’t let anything happen to either of them.”
“Just… please make sure she’s happy. She deserves the best.”
“...Finally, something we agree on.” Cassandra thought for a second before she took a couple of steps forward. She lent out her hand to the king. “I know I’ve promised this once before, in the past.. and I failed, I know that. But this time, I promise I’ll take care of her and Nova. I won’t let you down.”
For the first time since she’s known him, his eyes softened. But what threw her off, even more, was that it was directed towards her as he gripped her hand in return. “I know you won’t.” He paused. “And you take care of yourself too.” He suddenly sighed. “I’ll admit, I was wrong about you. You’ve grown into such a strong, admirable, devoted young lady. Your father would be proud.”
Cassandra swallowed, trying to hold back tears. “T-Than-” She cleared her throat. “Thank you, sir. That.. that means a lot.”
The king was much like her father. He was rigid and he never showed his emotions; his facial expressions remained the same. But Cassandra grew up learning how to read her father so when one of the king's eyebrows lifted a bit, she knew he meant it. The king nodded. “And please, if I really never see them again, tell Rapunzel to write. Especially for her mother's sake.”
The moment over, Cassandra backed up and chuckled. “Don’t worry, I’m sure she will.” She paused before saying: “And uh… you’re not so bad yourself.” He actually gave her a genuine smile. She returned it. Their smiles quickly dropped and Cassandra awkwardly backed up. “Uh… if anything happens, I’m always a letter away.”
As Cassandra turned around and made her leave, the king said one last thing: “Good luck, Cassandra.”
Rapunzel and Nova were brushing Fidella’s mane on the outskirts of town. When Rapunzel saw Cassandra, she smiled and stood up. Nova giggled and babbled as she brushed the ‘pretty pony's' hair. “There you are,” Rapunzel said. “What took you so long?”
Cassandra gave her an unusually cheery smile. “It doesn’t matter. Ready to go?”
Rapunzel took a deep inhale. “Ready as I’ll ever be.” Cassandra smiled and grabbed the princess’s hand. They placed Nova on top of Fidella, making the little girl giggle in excitement, and with that, they started to walk off towards tomorrow.
----------------------------------------------------------------
“You sure you’re up for the job?” Azriel’s voice spoke.
The person he was addressing smirked. “It’ll be a piece of cake. What do you need me to do?”
“Lead them through Death Valley. Gain their trust, and make them think you’re their friend. If they somehow survive it, I’ll be waiting for you on the other side. I don’t care what you do to the warrior but make sure you bring the princess to me alive.” He smirked. “But not unharmed. You can do whatever you want to her. As long as she’s alive, even if it’s slightly, I don’t care. I want the final blow. Bring the warrior too. She’s been a huge pain in my ass but also make sure she is immobile.” His smirk widened into an evilistic grin. “I want her to watch as I take the life of her lover.”
“What about the kid?”
Azriel was already turning around as he waved his hand nonchalantly. “I don’t care what happens to the kid. Do whatever you want. Just make sure my orders are followed.”
The figure smirked. “Oh, don’t worry… I have plans for all of them.”
Azriel smirked. “Excellent.” He started to walk off before he turned back around and glared at the figure. “Oh and Carina?”
The one whom he addressed ‘Carina’ turned her attention back to him. “Yes?”
His eyes glowed black. “You better not fail me.”
Carina smirked. “I’ve never failed a job nor have I failed in anything else. I'll make sure it gets done and that's a promise.” Azriel nodded and with that, he turned around and left the room. Carina looked at the sky and smirked. “Until we meet again Cassandra,” She said to herself. “I’ll show you what happens when you decide to replace me.” With that, evil chuckling could be heard throughout the echoing halls.
