Timeline: A couple of years post 3rd season. Ashes to Ashes happened but Vachon and Urs did not die. Nobody died except Divia. Last Knight was someone's nightmare after eating too much garlic before bedtime.

Chapter 3

 

Nick relaxed a little as the slow beat surrounded them, but then they both tensed as they recognized the song. For the three weeks prior to the contest, they had listened to popular music, hoping that whatever song they ended up with would be a little familiar. But this…this song was definitely not what they had expected.

 

Natalie looked hesitantly at her dance partner, wondering what he was thinking. It wasn't that she didn't like the song - she did, very much - but it was something she would've preferred to enjoy with him privately. It was much too sensual a song to dance to in public.

 

He sensed her concern, feeling pretty much the same way. Then he realized that he didn't care what everyone else might think, or the conclusions they might draw. He had an opportunity before him that he wanted to take advantage of.

 

He turned so that he was facing her and smiled. “Follow my lead,” he whispered. As the words began, he took her left hand in his right one and wrapped his left arm around her waist. Slowly, they moved to the music.

 

When moonlight crawls along the street

Footsteps outside somewhere below

He twirled her away from him, still holding her left hand, then released it.

 

We build our church above this street

 

Stepping back in front of her, he placed his hands flat against hers, palms together, and lifted them above their head.

 

We practice love between these sheets

As their hands slowly lowered, he dipped his head to her neck and took a deep breath. He felt her shiver and heard her gasp. It made him smile.

 

It bathes my skin I'm stained by you

He took her hand in his again, pulling her close and placing her hand on his chest, above his heart, leading her in a simple step that slowly moved them, so that attention would be drawn to their upper bodies, not their feet.

Her eyes widened slightly when she felt two successive thumps.

Leaving her hand on his chest, he lightly trailed the tips of his fingers down her face as he gazed into her deep blue eyes.

 

The music changed as the chorus began. Taking her hand again, Nick led them in a series of steps, a combination of Latin moves and ballroom dancing. Natalie was glad he knew what he was doing, because she felt somewhat overwhelmed by the intensity of his gaze, which never left hers, and by the rising passion she could sense in him. And damn it all, if her body wasn't responding, right there in front of everyone!

Nick's hands slid down to hold her hips, pressing them to him as they moved together. He lowered his head to her neck again, breathing soft, cool air against her warm skin.

His tongue traced the vein in her neck, causing her take a sharp breath. But she didn't falter, only tightened her hold, her arms around his neck.

The fancy footwork stilled as the second verse began. Standing there, Nick gave her a slow smile. He could smell her growing arousal.

His fingertips brushed lightly from her shoulders to right above her breasts, stopping just before he touched them.

Hands moved to frame her face as he kissed her softly, lingering as long as the words would let him.

With his lips still on hers, moving softly, gently, teasingly, he pulled her hips firmly to his again; she could feel his arousal pressing against her and it was all she could do to keep from dragging him out of the room and finding some place private…

His hands moved to her back and pulled her in, then following his lead, she took a step back when he did. Once more he took her hand, moving them in time to the music.

Natalie couldn't hold in the gasp, but somehow she managed to keep from looking down at their feet. She couldn't believe Nick had the nerve! He had levitated them just enough for her to notice! A sheepish grin filled his face at her shock as he quickly set them back on solid ground, never missing a beat.

The world doesn't understand

 

The words hit Natalie. She looked at him with a depth of meaning in her eyes, trying to communicate silently that she understood him. That she would stand by him, no matter if the entire world turned its back on him.

 

But I grow stronger in your hands

 

She moved his hand to her heart, looking at him intently. He gave her strength. Did he know that? She'd never told him so, but now she purposed in her heart to tell him everything, holding nothing back.

The continued to dance as the chorus repeated twice and moved into the bridge, then back to the chorus.

This time when Nick moved to her neck, she felt his fangs brush her skin, causing her to tremble, but not in fear.

As the music faded away, Nick held her tightly and kissed her, deeply, allowing her feel just a touch of the love and passion he felt for her.

 

The sound of a throat clearing brought them rushing back into the real world. Applause and wolf whistles followed them as they made their way to their table, where Tracy and Vachon waited with gaping mouths.

 

Commissioner Vetter waited until the commotion had died down a little. “There will be a free round of ice water for everyone.” The comment caused a few whoops and whistles, not to mention a few yelled comments.

 

“Way to go, Knight!”

 

“If you can't handle her, I can!”

 

“Pool commencing! How long before they find an excuse to leave!”

 

Nick just sighed ruefully and smiled at Nat, who was only a little embarrassed by the attention. Let them have their fun, he decided. It was worth it. And to top it off, he now knew with certainty what his choice would be.
