Chapter 3
Nohime leaned back against the double doors of her chambers. She sighed long and hard. One month. One month and she would be married. One month, married to Lord Nobunaga. Too soon.
The only good thing about all of this was that she seemed to have made an ally of Lord Mitsuhide, but when and if the time would come for her escape would he be leading her to safety or leading the party to capture her? He seemed so loyal to Lord Nobunaga. And that she admired. Loyalty was something she wished she had her friends. It was why she never kept friends. They always betrayed her in some way. Small or little. It always happened. She only hoped that Lord Mitsuhide wouldn't hurt her on purpose like the others.
Nohime looked around her new chambers. Her personal items were already here. All she needed to do was unpack. That was when she noticed that most of her things where already unpacked. Her kimonos, jewelry, even her four weapons were unpacked and hung up on the walls on protective hooks.
She walked over to her four sets of claws and smiled. Each one was special in its own way. The first set, a regular Hand Claw, was the first weapon she was given by her father. The second, Spider Sting, looked like its name; a spider's stinging fangs. The third, Scorpion Tail, was curved like a scorpion's tail and golden. And just as deadly as a scorpion. The fourth, and Nohime's favorite, Delicious Venom, was made of pure gold and looked like a snake's tongue and fangs. Deadly. Poisonous. Beautiful. Just like her. Nohime smirked.
Nohime walked around her room studying every detail carefully. She took note of the black four-poster bed upon a raised platform. There were steps leading up the platform to the bed. White and gold silk sheets and coverlet adorned the bed. There was a fluttering white canopy. Lord Nobunaga was indeed wealthy to be able to afford such luxury.
Even as a princess back in Oshu all she had for bedding was a soft futon. Nothing extremely fancy like this bed. But it was truly better than what the less fortunate had. Cots or some didn't even have those. All some had was the ground and blankets.
There was a large cherry wood armoire below the platform. She assumed her kimonos and other clothing were in there. There was a vanity in the center of another smaller raised platform with two steps that led to the vanity. There was a small chest that was open and it showed all her jewelry inside. Each ring was delicately placed. Each pieced seemed to have a place of its own. There was also a holder for her headdress on the vanity for whenever she took her hair down for bed.
She walked up the stairs to her new and welcoming, yet unfriendly, bed. She laid down and instantly sunk down into the feathery softness. So soft. Like clouds. White, puffy clouds. She soon fell asleep, lost in the comforting softness. Sleep was the only time she had been truly happy for the last few days. While she dreamt she didn't have to remember she was going to marry the Demon King. She didn't have to remember that she was being forced to do this and that. She could do what she wanted. Be who she wanted. In her dreams she dreamed that she was a normal girl who could make her own decisions. But that was a dream that, even while dreaming, she knew wasn't true. And would never be.

When Nohime awoke she decided that now was the time to send for Lord Mitsuhide to begin their practice. She got up from the bed and walked over to a mirror beside the armoire that she hadn't noticed before. Her kimono was wrinkled and her hair was a little messy. She opened the armoire and looked at her assortment of kimonos. She pulled out another purple kimono similar to the one she was wearing already. The only difference was the new one had butterflies on it. She adored and envied butterflies. They could go wherever they wished and no one said anything. Ever.
She changed into the new kimono and then walked over to the vanity to fix her hair and headdress. Then she walked over to her weapons. She took Delicious Venom off of its new home and connected it to its position in her kimono sleeves. One in each sleeve attached to one glove apiece. She made the blades retract. This is the one that she would practice battle with.
After she had secured her weapons she walked to the door and walked out into the hallway looking for a servant to summon Lord Mitsuhide. But she got something better instead.
Lord Mitsuhide was coming down the hallway. He was reading something. She called out to him, “Lord Mitsuhide, I am ready for our `battle'.”
Mitsuhide looked up from his reading and saw Nohime. He smiled at her and walked over to her, “Of course. Just let me put my reading away and then we shall walk over to the training grounds.”
Mitsuhide offered his still armored arm and Nohime took it. He walked a little ways down a few hallways and opened the third golden double door.
“This is your room?”
“Yes it is,” Nohime took note that he too had a weapon rack too. His held spots for five weapons, katanas to be specific. Perhaps they had similar interests as well. She noticed that there were only four swords on the wall. She looked to his waist and saw a gold sword at his waist.
“It is very close to my own. That makes me feel a little safer. I am very nervous about being here. I have battled in this region before yes, but never stayed longer than needed. Now I am going to live here.”
“It is a big change for you,” he agreed. He walked into his room and over to a shelf that had several scrolls and books on it. He placed the book he was reading on the top and then walked back and held out his arm again. Then he led Nohime outside to the training grounds.
