Chapter 19
Overview, June 1582

The temple Honnoji, in KyÅto. Nobunaga Oda, betrayed by his retainer, Mitsuhide Akechi, vanished forever in a sea of flame.

Mitsuhide was known as the man who had killed the Demon King. Innocent though he was he did not dispel the rumors. Mitsuhide Akechi had taken control of the land. He would create a peaceful Japan that would make Lord Nobunaga proud. And, it seemed no one would oppose Mitsuhide's rule.

After the battle Magoichi Saika, having gotten his revenge fled Honnoji. A thick fog settled over Honnoji. He became lost in a fog and began to hallucinate. He believed he saw bandits everywhere. Villagers crying for help. Worst of all he thought he saw Nobunaga. He believed Nobunaga had returned from Hell seeking revenge. He had fallen to the ground when Hideyoshi Toyotomi found him.

He had asked, “Hideyoshi... are you here for my head too?”

Hideyoshi looked thoughtful, “And what if I am?”

“I guess I aint stoppin ya,” and with that Magoichi had passed out. Hideyoshi then picked him and, when the fog cleared, took him to a small, abandoned cottage deep in the woods.

Hideyoshi and his retainers it seemed, where the only ones who would stand against Mitsuhide.

Magoichi wakes slowly. He is dizzy. His vision is blurry. He makes out Hideyoshi in the corner.

“Finally awake, Magoichi?”

“Hideyo... shi?”

Hideyoshi, without his helmet for once, walks over to Magoichi, “I'm setting out to fight Mitsuhide to decide who'll rule the land,” he held out his hand, “Magoichi. Give me a hand will you? I could use the help.”
Magoichi said nothing, “What's wrong, Magoichi? You can still talk, can't you? I hope you're not still upset.”

Magoichi stood up fast, “Shut up! What are you talking about?! I'm the one who killed Nobunaga! What's the matter with you!?” He pointed at him, “ `Give me a hand?' `I could use the help?' I'm the one you want to kill,” he threw his arms out wide.

“How will that change anything? You tell me what good that would do. Sure, I'm still mad at you. But killing you won't bring Nobunaga back, get it? And killing you won't change the world, either. Wake up!,” He threw Magoichi into the wall. He looked down and spoke softly, “I'd just lose two friends, instead of one.”

Magoichi began to get tears in his eyes, “I... I'm sorry, Hideyoshi. I just don't know how I'm supposed to feel right now... I shot him because he deserved it, for the thing that he did. But it didn't help. I mean, nothing got better... afterwards... Dammit, why did it...” He fell to his knees.

Hideyoshi puts his hand on Magoichi's head, “You don't have to worry about it anymore. I'm going to be the one taking care of everything. Come on, Magoichi. Help me create a world where everyone can be happy”

“Hideyoshi...”

“Laugh, Magoichi! Laugh and be merry! How are we gonna make everyone else laugh if we can't?! Come on!”

“I can't... I can't laugh, but I am happy and it's because you are my friend.”

Hideyoshi made a fist and put it out towards Magoichi. Magoichi slowly did the same. Hideyoshi, with his fist, hit the top of Magoichi's fist, then the bottom. He slapped Magoichi's palm and then both of his hands came up and ended in two “guns”. And Magoichi's hands hesitantly joined Hideyoshi's. Hideyoshi smiles and Magoichi slowly follows.
