Epilogue
Owari, Seven Months Later
After Mitsuhide attained victory at Yamazaki, the other lords throughout Japan recognized his power and submitted to him. Peace reigned, and the people of Japan were happy...
Townspeople walked through the bustling town. Merchants were selling their goods. Women were shopping for food. It was completely peaceful. All of Japan was united.
Nobunaga's castle, now Mitsuhide's castle, stood at the edge of the town, and yet it was somehow in the center as well. It drew your attention. The color of gold and so many stories high. It seemed like a happy castle now. Not a bleak one anymore.
Mitsuhide stood on the top floor balcony looking down at the people. He spoke aloud, “Look, Lord Nobunaga. This shall be the land that I desired. One without war, where all people can live in peace,” he paused, “It is only missing one thing. Only... you, my lord...”
Mitsuhide's eyes widened as he felt a presence like that of his lord behind him. He turned quickly and found… that he was alone.
Live on... Mitsuhide...
He could still hear his lord, clear as the morning sky. Though Mitsuhide now understood Nobunaga's extreme tactics, he still did not agree with them. But... if Lord Nobunaga could witness the Japan that Mitsuhide had created, he would be so proud.
A sliding door opened to reveal Nohime. She smiled at him and he returned one. She walked toward him slowly. She was carrying their two-month-old son, Hikaru, in her arms.
She handed him his son carefully. Mitsuhide put his arm around her shoulders and held Hikaru in the other. Nohime wrapped her arm around Mitsuhide's waist and laid her head on his shoulder.
Hikaru yawned and rubbed his eyes with his fists.
Mitsuhide chuckled, “Has he eaten?”
“Yes I just got finished feeding him. Now it's time for him to nap. But I thought he'd like to see his father before I put him to bed.”
Mitsuhide smiled as Hikaru grabbed his armored finger. He pulled on the purple velvet glove and then began to run his small finger down it gently. Mitsuhide kissed the top of his head and then walked with Nohime to their chambers to put the baby down for his nap.
As he fell asleep they watched him with love. There was no question that it was Mitsuhide's son. Nohime would have feared this if Nobunaga still lived. Hikaru had Mitsuhide's eyes, an almost dark purple tint. Beautiful eyes yes. But a dead give away.
Mitsuhide pulled Nohime into his arms, “Have I told you that I loved you today?”
She smiled, “Yes I believe you told me a few hours ago.”
“Hours ago? I'm getting lazy. I believe I promised you on our wedding day that I would say it every minute.”
Nohime laughed softly, so as to not wake the baby, “Well then you better be saying it fast.”
Mitsuhide touched his forehead to hers, “I love you Nohime. Now and forever.”
“I love you too Mitsuhide.”

Gracia walked alone in the marketplace. She had gotten married since the last time she had seen Magoichi. Her father had told her he struck him down. Gracia had been sad, but she had to keep in mind too that Magoichi was trying to help kill her father for a crime he did not commit.
She sighed. She did miss Mago so much though. Her husband took care of her yes, but... he didn't love her. She now fully understood what Nohime must have gone through. She had asked her father to annul the marriage, and he had told her he would see what he could do. If he had to her father could force the marriage apart. He was ShÅgun after all.
Gracia picked up an apple and paid for it. As she was turning a little boy ran into her and apologized nervously. She smiled and patted his head and he had smiled and then ran off to his father.
Gracia looked on the ground and saw the apple had landed about ten feet from her. She was getting ready to reach for the apple when someone beat her to it. She frowned and looked up and then gasped.
“Hey there little girl.”
“Mago... You're alive!”
“Yah, I almost didn't make it though. Your father meant business. I thought he did kill me. Almost did though.”
Gracia flung herself into his arms.
“Hey, hey, whoa, whoa, hey!”
Gracia pulled back, “I'm sorry.”
“It's okay Gracia. I know you're just glad to see me. But I just wanna take a good look at ya.”
He looked her up and down for a few long seconds, “You've grown up. A lot. You filled out pretty good. I guess now I gotta start turning on my charm,” he winked at her.
“Mago... I'm married.”
“Even more tempting.”
“I'm having the marriage annulled hopefully.”
“Oh, well I'm sorry it's not working out for ya.”
“Well... I'm not upset. We haven't been married that long. So I'm not heartbroken.”
“Good. So... um... how's your dad?”
“He's happy. And he and Nohime have a son together.”
“Yah, before we got down and dirty on the battlefield he told me Nohime was gonna have a baby.”
“Mago... when my marriage is annulled... will you take me with you again? I still haven't got to see the world like I wanted to.”
He laughed and put his arm around her, “I sure will pal. What else are friends for.”
