Spanish Sting
T.J.'s dream is finally coming true. He was going on a date with
Lola. It was amazing that she said yes. At first, T.J. thought he
was dreaming. He pinched himself in the cheek. No, this was real.
They really were going on a date.
He decided to go simple with this. He asked her where she wanted to
go. Lola thought about this for a moment.
“Take me out for a drive,” she said.
“Okay,” he said. There was no destination in mind. They were just
going to drive around. He did the driving. The pair didn't talk at
first. He didn't know what to say at first.
“So… how are you liking Japan so far?” he asked at last.
“It's cool,” Lola said. She didn't look at him. There weren't many
cars on the streets this evening. It worked out in his favor.
“I like it here,” T.J. said. His words died on his tongue. Why was
this so hard? He's talked to plenty of women before. He's even
talked to them on dates. What was so different about Lola? What
made her so special?
They pulled up to a stoplight. T.J. turned to her.
“Do you want to stop anywhere?” he asked. She shook her head.
“No?” he asked.
“No,” she said. The Spanish man pressed his lips together. Okay
then…
She leaned her head on his shoulder. T.J. froze as he looked down.
She looked into his eyes.
“Take me somewhere,” she said. T.J.'s heart began to beat
faster.
“Uh… where?” he asked.
“Anywhere,” she said. Lola could command him to cut off her right
arm and he would do it without thinking.
“Yes ma'am,” he said. The light turned green and they pulled away.
T.J. had only one place that he could think of going.
------------
The car pulled up near Akihabara Neribei Park. T.J. stopped the
car. He turned to Lola. He wasn't sure if he imaged it or not, but
he could've sworn that she had a little smile on her face. They
didn't have to do much out here. The atmosphere in the car started
to change a little bit. There was only one thing he could think of
asking.
“Can I kiss you?” he asked. Lola stared at him for a moment. T.J.
hesitated before he drew back.
“Too soon?” he asked. His date shook her head.
“You'll have to get to know me first before we do that,” she
said.
“Oh…” T.J. said. Lola rested her head on his shoulder again.
“Can I stay like this for a while?” she asked. His cheeks turned a
bright pink.
“Uh… sure,” he mumbled out. Lola cuddled up by his side as they
enjoyed the view on this Sunday afternoon.
