Divide Up
Disaster has struck!
“Asshole!” Gwendolyn screamed.
“Bitch!” Jim shot back. This fight went on for ten minutes. In the end, Gwen walked out the door. Jim sat in the living room in silence.
She’s gone…, he thought.
-Jim-
She really just left. Damn. I look up at the ceiling.
Damn. That’s it, then? I look at the clock. Only nine? I wonder what Shojiro is up to right now.
-Gwen-
Asshole! What the hell does he know about women? I snort to myself.
He’s just stupid. What the fuck is his problem?
I stop in my tracks.
I’m so lonely. I look down at my phone.
9:00 already? What’s Kizo doing now?
-Jim-
I dial up Shojiro’s number. I wait for a few seconds before he picks up.
“Hello?” he asks.
“Shojiro, old buddy!” I say. “How are you tonight?”
“Uh… good.”
“Great, great.”
“Uh… Is something wrong?”
“Oh, nothing. Just a little falling out with the old bitch.”
“Oh. You and Gwen went at it?”
“Yep.”
“So? What do you want?”
I shrug to myself. “I dunno.”
“Then, why call me?”
I shrug again. “I dunno.”
-Gwen-
I wait as the other line rings. I pace around a bit.
“Hello?” I hear my friend ask. I smile to myself.
“Kizo, how are you?” I ask.
“Fine… I guess. You?”
I sigh. “I think I’m done with that idiot.”
“What idiot?”
“My idiot, remember?”
“Who? Jim?”
“Yes!”
“Oh why?”
“A stupid fight.”
“Oh. Is there anything you need?”
“Not really.”
“Okay…”
-Jim-
“Listen, I can’t stay long. Kizo will be back soon.”
“Okay, we can talk until then.”
“About what?”
“Anything, I suppose.”
“Uh… right…”
I begin to frown. “Come on, dude!”
“I can’t stay long.”
“Please, man?”
There comes a pause before Shojiro speaks. “Can’t you talk to Gwen?”
I make a face to myself. “Really, dude? This is Gwen we’re talking about here.”
“Oh yeah…”
“Yeah.” I laugh nervously to myself. Then, there comes another pause.
“I have to go man. Sorry.”
“No, wait! Don’t go!”
He hangs up before I get another word in. I frown at the phone.
“Thanks dude,” I mutter at it. “Not.” It’s silent again. I sigh and flop back on the couch. Now what?
Then comes a knock on my door.
“Hm?” I ask myself.
-Gwen-
I wave my hand off. “Nah, I’m fine.”
“You sure?”
“Yep.”
“Okay then. I have to go.”
I pause at her words. “Wait, why?”
“I have a date now. Got to go.” She hangs before I can speak.
Okay then… I wander around campus until I come to a local bar just across the street. Why is Jim so stupid? Men just suck.
