"Air Japan Flight 207 from the Charles de Gaulle Airport has landed at Gate B12. I repeat, Air Japan Flight 207 from the Charles de Gaulle Airport has landed at Gate B12." The loudspeaker announced the new arrival as if it were meant for someone to hear it, someone who was currently sitting at Gate B12, sprawled over the chair, attempting to catch some shut-eye. The announcement ran its course through the four standard languages of English, French, Spanish, and Japanese, before going on to another flight announcement and a warning for travelers about letting anyone steal or carry their luggage.
The passengers disembarked from their plane, each looking weary due to the red-eye flight from Paris. One of the passengers, a young woman in her early twenties, stopped for a moment to stare back out the window, watching as the workers refueled the large passenger jet. She stood there for a good while, about fifteen minutes or so, only to jump when someone tapped her on the shoulder.
"Nasuti Yaguy," that someone said in her ear, only to laugh when she whirled around to face them, indignation on her face. "Time to switch to decaf."
"Touma Hashiba," she exclaimed, "give me a freaking heart attack." In her excitement at seeing her long-awaiting friend, she quickly wrapped her arms around his neck, but then commenced his punishment by barreling him in the chest with her small fists. "Don't - ever - do - that - again!" She accentuated each word with a punch, only to flail when he held her hands and kept laughing.
"Nasté , some things never change, do they?" The navy-blue haired young man stopped his merriment when he realized that his female companion had different intentions. Eyes of the same shade took in the sight before him, the orbs twinkling when he realized just how much his best friend had changed. "France was good to you, Nasté ."
A faint blush stained her cheeks at this. "Thank you, Shin and Ryo send their love and punches. I literally had to pry them off of me to catch my flight," she said whimsically, turning around for the inspecting young man. "I take it that you like what you see."
And that he did, nodding his agreement as he motioned for her to spin around again, slowly this time. "You grew up without me, I'm miffed." He crossed his arms and shoved his nose in the air, adopting a snobbish stance, one that both of them hated severely.
"Well, look at you," she shot back, "you went all sleek and attractive when I left, what happened to that gangly bookworm I left behind."
A smile erupted on his face as Touma wrapped his arms around his friend's waist and hefted her into the air. "He grew up, and is glad that you did too." The two laughed insanely, like two family members finally being able to share a funny joke. He swung her around twice, before setting her on her feet, his face surprisingly somber. "But I'm afraid that you picked a bad time of the year to return to Tokyo, Nasté ."
She too had picked up on the mood, the somber tone flooding her voice. "Why, Touma, it's Christmas? I always return on Christmas."
He sighed before continuing. "Your grandfather met with the Rei Fuans, and they feel that it is time for you and their son Shuu to be engaged. He has asked your grandfather for your hand in marriage."
"MARRIAGE!"
~*~*~
"MARRIAGE?!" A young midnight-black haired woman exclaimed, tears in her eyes at the dreadful news. "But, do you even know this woman?"
The young man held up his hands in a warding gesture, before saying softly, "Never met her, it's been arranged through our families, so I take it that she's filthy rich." He added this last part quickly, hoping that it might placate her. "Kayura, you know that I would never give you up without a fight."
Kayura visibly calmed, her Prussian blue eyes softening at the sight of her vulnerable Shuu Rei Fuan and his stormy-blue gray eyes. "You'd never leave me, you promised." She threw herself at him, his natural reaction was to embrace her.
Shuu bent his head forward, enjoying the feel of the silky soft hair tickling the sensitive skin on his neck. He rocked them both gently, back and forth, waiting for his love to look at him, to move, to speak, to do something that would will him to stop. "Kayura, but promises are meant to be broken."
At this, her head jerked up, connecting with his square jaw, hard. She yelped and forced out through tears of pain, "Not this one, Shuu. Gods above, not this one."

The silence in the car was deafening as the two young adults sat their, one reflexively grasping the steering wheel, the other calmly looking out the window. There was the unspoken challenge of who to speak first, one that Touma quickly skewed. "Shuu is to take you out tonight when we reach your home."
Nasuti jumped once more, shocked out of her dreamlike state. Jade green eyes widened at the absorbing of this information, before softening at the tone that her friend used. One of unbridled concern and she did not like the other emotion, envy. "Did you twist my grandfather into telling you where, you manage to twist him around your finger more then once when it comes to calling favors."
Touma grinned at the recollection, but then the smile fell into a frown. "He's taking you to some club, but if I know you, you-"
"Can't dance," they finished together, one starting to laugh, the other with a look of stark terror on her face.
Nasuti buried her face into her hands at this unwelcome news. "This is the worst Christmas ever," she groaned.
Touma groaned as well, as he approached the driveway gate. "We're here," he spoke forebodingly. The two young adults visibly bristled, shaken at the fact that their friendship and marital status was being threatened. Touma realized at this moment, that he might be alone for the rest of his life, no woman ever taking interest in his studious attitude, and Nasuti that she was being forced into a relationship, of convenience.
To be continued….
