Between Dates chapter 3
She barely contained the squeal that she felt building in her throat; not that anyone would hear her since the house was empty, as she watched her son and his friend pull into the drive. They circled the drive and pulled off parking next to her navy blue 4x4. Turning she headed from the garden room on the second floor toward the stairs.
Mrs. Date had been overjoyed when Seiji had asked if Touma could come stay part of the summer with them, sighting some excuse that Touma would be all alone at the mansion with the other troopers leaving to visit family. She passed by Seiji's old room now housing his cousin, Sani Mokotu before descended the stairs to greet the two young warriors.
She had meet Hashiba Touma once before during a family get together at Yagyu Nasuti home and had instantly taken a liking to the boy. She had been disappointed to know that Touma's parents hadn't found it an important enough event to attend. /Poor boy./ Kyo had seen the sadness in his eyes though he strived to act as though it didn't matter.
Passing the kitchen she reached the door just as she heard the knob turn Seiji and Touma talking quietly to one another.
"Welcome home Seiji." Glancing up from Touma Seiji smiled upon seeing her and quickly bowed.
"Thank you, mother. You remember Touma-san, ne?"
"Yes of course," she bow politely and Touma quickly returned it adding a nervous smile. "It is very good to see you again, Hashiba-san."
"Thank you, Date-sama" He greeted the nervousness on his face not echoed in his voice. /So strong. He is perfect, for my little Seiji-chan./
"Now Touma, please don't be so formal."
"Yes ma'am."
"I don't know if Seiji told you or not but you won't be staying here in the main house, but in the guest house just a stones throw from here. Seiji's younger cousin is stay with us to prepare for the tournament as well and he has Seiji's room. So I thought it best if you two stay in the guesthouse besides it will give you a bit more… space." She almost giggled at the worried look Touma threw her son's way. "You two are grown men now and you've been living on your own for sometime so I thought you'd like that arrangement better."
"Yes, thanks mom," Seiji responded smoothly without a hint of suspicious though she could see it in his eyes.
"Now Seiji why don't you take your friend out and get him settled in, oh and your father called, he wanted you'd you to go to the dojo as soon as you arrived but I told him I wanted you to get Touma settled in first, so once you're done go and see what he wants."
"Yes mother we will, come on Touma I'll give you a quick tour." Grabbing the bags they had placed on the floor the two started down the stone paved hall that went through the center of the Date's main house and then out the back door
"Thank you, Date-san."
"You're welcome see you both at dinner."
"Yes ma'am."
She smiled to herself once she heard the door closed. Out of all of the other troopers she had like Touma the most, and it overjoyed her to think Seiji had chosen him. But her smiled die just as quickly as the front door opened and in stepped Mokotu, her nephew from her husband's side.
"Hello Date-san. Has Seiji returned?"
"Yes, but he has a friend with him besides your uncle wishes to see you at the Dojo right away."
"I see, did he say why," The brown haired teen asked. /He's up to something./
"No but I'm sure it has something to do with the tournament."
"Ok, I guess I'll see Seiji there," Without another word he disappeared out the front door with an audible click.
Kyo sighed heavily before turn to head back to her sunroom her mind turning to the upcoming tournament and all of the things her husband and father were doing to prepare both Seiji and his cousin. Mokotu had come to stay with them only a week ago both families thinking it best that the boys practice together. They had been 2 of only 45 sword fighters to be invited to the exclusive National Competition to be held in Tokyo and from there Seiji and two other sword fighters… /Aren't I confident./ ...will go to the USA to compete in the World Swords Fighting Championship.
The whole family had been so happy and that's why Seiji's father had all but demanded Seiji return home so that he could receive 'proper training.' Stating that, 'Seiji would need to learn to fight against all styles of sword play from broad swords to fencing.' Her son had been so heart broken when he had arrived home, but only herself and her father had noticed only they had seen how happy he had been at Yagyu's. Idly she wondered had he and Touma entered into a relationship or did they both still see each other as just friends. /Guess time will tell./ She grinned as she set down on the in front of the bosai tree she been attending to earlier.
**********************************************
He could see questions wanting to explode from the other's mouth as they walked down the rock laden path toward the guest house Seiji had been living in since his cousin's arrival. /With the good comes the bad I suppose./
"Here we are," Seiji said quietly as Touma eyes widened at the size of the guest house. The archer had been thoroughly impressed by the size of the Date family land, house and now the guest house.
"Geez, Seiji I knew you were rich but kami!"
Seiji chuckled before going to unlock the door, he always kept it locked. /Help keep my shadow out amongst other things./
"My family's rich, not me."
"Same diff." The other shrugged his backpack still occupying his shoulders.
"Same diff…? Never mind, come on," Seiji pushed the door opened allowing Touma in before closing it.
Reaching over he flipped the switch, lighting the entryway torch-lights that lined the ceiling leading down the hall.
"Wow…"
"Yeah the guest house is pretty nice, can't have the honor guests stay in some dumpy little place. There are four bedrooms with a three full bathroom, a den, small study and a kitchen slash dinning room since most of the time guests eat in the main house. We'll have to share this place on occasion though. My father is flying in some swordsmen from other countries to help with Mokotu and my training they'll stay in the other rooms."
"Seiji, why didn't you mention this before?"
"Surprise!" He smirked, "Well actually I forget, I've been staying here since Mokotu arrived."
"And why didn't you mention your cousin before now?" Seiji stiffened for a moment before responding.
"What's with all the questions come on let me show you your room." Grabbing his love's hand he dragged the reluctant boy down the hall pass the kitchen, den, two of the bedrooms and bath stopping in front of the next room. "That room over there," he started pointing toward the last door, "is the main bedroom, I left it for guest this room however is mine." Seiji slid the door opened revealing a nicely decorated room though it wasn't really Seiji's style. /Too many birds. Not enough green and no pandas./
"But I thought we were going to my room," Touma asked a confused look on his fair face.
"We are, watch," Stepping in he went to the door to his left sliding it open and motioning for Touma to follow. "See adjoining bathroom." He pointed out grinning as he slid the other door open revealing a beautiful, bamboo themed bedroom. Glancing back at Touma he watched the archer's confusion fade to an endearing smile.
He walked pass Seiji without a word glancing around the room.
"So what to do you think?" The archer slowly turned around a frown on his face.
"I don't like it," He said seriously. Seiji felt his eyes widen but simply asked.
"W.why?" /Stuttering, good Seiji./
"Well with adjoining bathroom and all," Touma said stepping toward Seiji, "You could sneak in on me whenever you wanted too." The serious tone remained but Seiji could see the playful jest in those starry blue eyes.
"That I could, and with the family locked out there'd be no one to see me or stop me," Seiji commented as he slid his hands around Touma waist drawing him closer. Staying out here in the guest house would prove them a little bit of privacy, though not as much as Seiji would like.
"And we can't have…" The words were sealed behind Seiji's lips as Touma arms reached around the blonde's neck. Slowly they part the kiss never going beyond a simple meeting of lips.
The two gazed at one another before Touma asked, "Seiji, um, does your mom know about us." He eyes dart away from a moment before returning.
"No."
"Are you sure? I mean…"
"She's only met you once before and I've certainly not told her." Seiji said quickly as he kissed the worry lines appearing on the younger teen forehead.
"I see." The matter of telling Seiji's parent had already been discussed, in length between them and in the end Touma had agreed that Seiji would tell them when he was ready. /Though I know Touma doesn't like it, neither do I for that matter./ Pulling away Touma lift his pack from his shoulders laying it down on the bed.
"Why don't you get freshened up and then we'll head to the dojo, ok?"
"Sure, but I thought your dad wanted you? You can leave me here if you want?"
"No, he can wait a little while, beside class doesn't start for another hour I'm sure it can wait till then."
"If you're sure?"
"Of course I am beside I really want you to see the dojo and meet my dad, I think he'll like you."
Touma's smile returned. "I feel like I'm starring in 'Meet the Parents' or something."
"God Touma don't even joke about that." Touma laughed before asking.
"Does your dad own a cat?"
"No and my sisters don't smoke weed, though I think Yayoi should it would calm her down a bit."
Touma laughed louder this time as he slipped into the bathroom sliding the door closed behind him. Seiji smirked slightly noting that Touma had gotten over the incident at the lunch. Seiji had really messed up back there and he had feared Touma wouldn't let him touch him for sometime. /Luckily that's not the case. The last thing I needed was to introduce a pissed off Touma to my family. Though it was all my fault./ Seiji forgot sometime how new this whole physical affection was to Touma. Factoring in his family life and social life one could see why the younger teen was uncomfortable with being touched. One second he'd soak it up and the second he'd run for the hills. Seiji laughed inwardly as he remembered the first time Shin has pulled Touma into a friendly hug. The look of complete shock and horror was hilarious and yet very disturbing. And since the start of their relationship Seiji had slowed thing down, noticing that the more he pushed for kisses and caresses the farther away Touma moved from him. Then throw in the fact that this was not a socially acceptable relationship and bam you have major problems. Times when Touma didn't want to be touched and time when Touma wanted to be touched but Seiji couldn't.
"Seiji where are the towels. I'm goin' take a quick shower." Touma called through the door. "Care to join me?"
The blonde head shot toward the bathroom to see Touma sticking his tongue out teasingly.
"Kidding but I will need a towel."
"Just for that your little blue ass can air dry."
***********************************************
The archer was continually wowed by the Date estate. /..hehe.. Date Estate./ Though not quite as big as Nasuti's estate it was still massive and unlike Nasuti's the entire property was landscaped with beautiful flower beds, statues, and ponds. As they walked they passed a couple Zen gardens, the sand neatly racked in a near perfect pattern.
"So who takes care of this place?"
"We have two full time gardeners that maintain every thing except the Zen gardens. My grandfather does that as a way to calm himself."
"I see."
"Are you nervous Tou?" Seiji asked suddenly.
"No of course not, why are you?" Touma smiled as they continued down the path cherry trees now lining it.
"If you're not then I'm not." Seiji replied keeping his eyes forward.
"Good."
"All right then."
"You're terrified."
"You too."
"Yep," Touma sighed as they continued the trees' shadows falling on the warriors. "I just don't want to make a fool out of myself."
"You won't."
"And you say you know me. Tsk tsk, Seiji."
"You'll be fine Touma, just be yourself and they'll love you," Seiji glanced around before grabbing Touma's hand and dragging him off the path. Touma was silent now as Seiji took him through a grove of tree. Pulling him until they reached a small shrine area Seiji stopped glancing around again before he reached his hands out cupping Touma's face. "They'll love you, just as much as I do." Touma couldn't help but grin ear to ear. /He said, he said he loves me./ His heart felt light in his chest as the swordsman leaned down brushing his lips against Touma's. Unable to hold back the feelings Touma pressed forward crush his lips to Seiji's. Hands wove around each other's bodies as they drew one another nearer. Touma felt the wind rustling his hair as Seiji fingered through it. Pulling back slightly they studied each other before Touma whispered.
"I love you too, Seiji."
***********************************************
"So he is back already," Yoshi Date confirmed as he listened to his daughter on the other line. "Oh wait here they come. We will see you are dinner. Bye."
Watching from the office window he could make out his grandson and Hashiba Touma making their way down the trail. Seiji was smiling as the wind play with the young men's hair, left over blossom fluttering by. The oldest Date noticed how his normally reserved grandson looked, he noticed how the other boy managed to make Seiji smile and laugh as if it were an every day thing, he noticed the way their auras absorbed and strengthened one another and most importantly he noticed the love reflected in his grandson's eyes every time he looked at Touma-san. But this love was indeed a double edges sword, and the elder could sense all the trouble that was surrounding the two boys. "So is that him?" He heard his son in law ask as he stepped up beside him glancing out the window. The older Date watched the frown grow on the younger man's face as the two neared.
"Yes that is Hashiba Touma. Bearer of the armor Tenku."
"Figures out of all of them…" The man didn't finish as he turned exiting the neatly kept office without another word. /A great deal of trouble./
********************************************
"You see that girl up there? She's my younger sister,"
"Satsuki, right?"
"Yes, she helps teach the kids' karate class. She not to into Kendo herself and Yayoi my older 'sister' stopped kendo about two years ago, saying she'd grown out of it.\"
"Isn't she the one that use to dress you up as a-"
"Yes." Seiji growled gaining a snicker from Touma. "Sure snicker now, just wait, once you meet her you'll understand."
"Well anyone that can get under your skin that much is sure to-"
"Seiji!" Both young men turned at the swordsman's name to see a fairly large man coming down the stair.
"Hello father," Seiji bowed to the man and Touma followed suit. /Seiji's father…? But he's Japanese. I thought-/ "Sorry it took me so long, but mother wanted me to get Touma settled in before I came."
"I know," the man replied his eyes leaving his son to fall heavily on Touma. Hold back the clichéd gulped Touma stood there allowing the judging brown eyes to look straight into his, without flinching.
"Father, allow me to introduce you to Hashiba Touma."
"Yes I know." He replied not bothering to acknowledge the other boy. "Seiji we have Noira-san coming here tomorrow, she's bringing three of her best students so that you and Mokotu can get some practice in. I want you and Mokotu to spar alone until class is over, so go get prepared. Mokotu has already changed." With that he left casting a dark glance over his shoulder at the archer.
Touma shivered unable to hold it back anymore the gaze was one of detest and even after it left him he could still feel it boring into his soul.
"Sorry Tou," Seiji hand rest on his shoulder pushing all of the ill feelings way. "He's been really uptight lately with the tournament and all. I'm sure you'll get a better… introduction at dinner." The bearer of Tenku only nodded as he watched the man step up to the front of the class. Instantly the entire class was silent their eyes fixed on him as Seiji's younger sister, Satsuki bowed to her father before slipping away.
"Come on," Seiji whispered his warm hand leaving the archery's shoulder.
Following numbly Touma's mind wander slightly the sound of orders being barked out and student complying falling upon his ear as a distant jumble. /My head hurts. / Touma rubbed the sore spot at the edge of his scalp wondering briefly why all of his headache, as of late, seemed to start in that same place. /Probably just my imagination./ He mused for a few seconds about stress reactivating the nerves around the bullet wound before his thoughts were shattered.
"Big brother!" Seiji rolled his eyes slightly and turned just in time to be tackled by a gi wearing, short, dark haired girl, Touma assumed to be Satsuki. The blonde stumbled a bit but held his ground as his younger sister nuzzled against him, the most content smile on her face.
"Satsuki, will you please behave." The reprimand went unheeded as she pulled away slightly giggling, "You're such a party pooper, big brother. Here you disappear all day and when you finally return you can't even…" She stopped suddenly as glanced over her shoulder at Touma. Releasing Seiji she stepped away from him her eyes still on Touma. They held a very… uncomfortable glint that made Touma want to shrink.
"So he's why you disappeared all day?"
Touma managed to pry his eyes from her stare and cast a 'help me look' to Seiji. At that same moment the girl's face broke into a smile.
"You're one of the five aren't you; I can see it in your eyes. Of course the hair helps, but I guess someone could mistake you for some punk rocker of something. I'm Date Satsuki it nice to meet you…"
"Touma, Hashiba Touma and it's nice to meet you as well." The two bowed a formal greeting before Touma suddenly found the girl latched to his arm. /What is with this girl?/ Seiji had talked in length about his two sister, Yayoi his tormentor and Satsuki his shadow. When he'd get into one of his talkative moods he'd ramble on and on about Yayoi evil deeds and Satsuki constant chatter.
Though he acted as though he couldn't stand his sisters Touma could tell it was quite the opposite at least in Satsuki case. Seiji loved his little sister; one could see it in the way his eyes sparked at her silliness, the way he pretended to sigh when she didn't listen to him. /Sometimes I wish I had a little sister or a brother…/ Touma stopped himself remember his horrible childhood, though it had been lonely he was glad his parent never had any other kids because they would have had to go through the hell he did or maybe even worse.
"Is something the matter, Touma-san?" The girl asked looking up at him inquisitively.
"No just think about how nice it must be to have siblings." Seiji snorted.
"Well since you're so interested. Why don't I have Satsuki keep you company while I go get changed?" Seiji said turning to go down the wide hall.
"Sure I don't mind, me and Touma-san can get better acquainted while you're away."
Touma opened his mouth to speak but at the same time Seiji turned his eyes landing first on Touma and then on his sister who was clutching tightly to Touma's arm.
"Oh and Satsuki, he's taken." Touma blinked feeling his face flush. /What did he… did he just…?/
"Aww big brother! I can believe you." The girl huffed, releasing Touma's arm. "Why'd you bring one that was taken? I mean you can't bring a total hottie like this to our home and then announce that he's taken." Touma sighed in relief though a small part of him wished that she had figured it out.
"Satsuki, stop whining! I'll be back in a minute." With that the blonde strolled down the hall and turn entering what Touma guessed to be the locker room. Throwing Touma sexy smirk he disappeared.
"So who's the luck girl? What's she like?" Touma was started by the question throwing a glance at the girl he'd been left with. "Oh come on, don't be like that. Tell me."
"I'd really rather not talk about that."
"Is Touma-san shy?"
"A little. Beside why do you want to know about… that?"
"I always like to know about my competition." She said in a matter of fact way.
Touma cringed mentally as he envisioned Seiji and Satsuki play tug of war with him as the rope.
"Satsuki… I…"
"Fine, fine after all you're not the only armor bearer, ne? So tell me about the others." Touma sighed in relief and started telling the youngest Date about the others.
She was quite disheartened to find out that Shin and Shu were both involved in relationships, though Touma didn't elaborated. He explained that Shu and Shin had both left the country to visit Shin family in England, a reunion and then they were off to see Shu uncle in the states. The two troopers hoped they'll be able to come to Seiji's Tournament in USA but they weren't sure.
"Please, please tell me that the last ones not attached."
"Well not officially, but the girl he likes took him to Europe with her yesterday just before I left so I'm guessing when we see them next they'll be together."
The young dark haired girl flopped back against the wall with a thud, moaning loudly.
"I can't believe it."
"Sorry, Satsuki-san," Touma tried, watch the girl with amused eyes. /She so… different from Seiji, being the youngest they must have loosened up on her training./
The girl groaned loudly and whined. "I so had my heart set on marrying one of you guys."
Touma laughed lightly unable to hold it in anymore.
"What are you laughing at?"
"Nothing…" Touma smiled sincerely at her. She frowned in a very Seiji like way raising one eyebrow just like his love would when expecting a better answer.
"It's just well you don't act anything like Seiji and yet you have so many of the same mannerisms."
"Really? You think?" Her face light up as if that was the best thing in the world.
"Muhu," Touma nodded and instantly found himself wrapped in a hug.
"I'm so glad Seiji brought you here, this is going to be so much fun. Having you here I mean." Touma found himself blushing slightly but a 'ahem' from behind stopped the scene. The archer glanced back to see Seiji eyeing is sister warily.
"Oh Seiji it was just a hug," Satsuki huffed as she released Touma standing. "Well it was very nice talking to you Touma-san, perhaps we could go out sometime. Ja." With that and a giggle she headed back toward the main room were the classes were.
"Sorry about that Tou, she aa…"
"Don't worry, besides it was fun, she not nearly as bad as you said she was."
"Yeah just wait till she gets use to you." There was an uneasiness in his tone as he looked after his sister. Touma stood recognizing the worry present in the other's eyes.
/What to do? / Touma knew that Seiji needed reassurance; reassurance that Touma won't fall for his sister, reassurance that the swordsman was the only one on his mind. /But how to do that here./
"I guess you were right about what you said before we got here." Touma began gaining Seiji's attention. "And I meant what I said." It wasn't the most poetic of lines Touma could have said but it got his point across. Seiji glanced down at him a smile ghosting across his face, lavender eyes filling with a glow that warmed Touma's soul.
"Yeah, me too."

TBC….
DL: Ok that's not where I wanted to stop but oh well.
Ryo: When do I get to be in this story?
Shin and Shu: Yeah us too.
DL: Sorry, but this is a Touma Seiji love story. You'll just have to wait your turns.
Shin, Shu, Ryo: When will that be?
DL: Never if you keep whining. Big babies! *huffs* Anyway sorry it took so long. My work schedule changed again. 5:30 am to 7:00 pm. Argh!
Touma: There's a 5:30 in the morning now, will the wonders never cease.
Seiji: Geez, well so long and don't forget to review… Shut up Touma!
Touma: I didn't say anything.
Seiji: You thought it.
Touma: So what, ya a physic now?
Seiji:…Yeah.
Touma: Oh yeah! Sorry, I forgot..
