Part 2
CRACK!
“Ow! Kento, quit hitting me there, that hurts!”
“Well, if you'd defend that open spot, I wouldn't be able to hit you there, now would I?”
Rhia scowled at him and attempted to cover the hole in her defense. She had no doubts that she would be bruised. Her training was going well, and she had practiced with Kento every day since she had arrived. He had pushed her hard, especially once he deemed her ready for sparring. She remembered the pain of that day. Numerous holes in her defense had been fixed, her stance altered, her reactions quickened. But there was this one that she was having trouble covering. Kento treated it as he had all the others, figuring if he hit that spot enough times, she would notice and start defending it. So far, it had worked.
He aimed for the spot again, and smiled at her when her staff blocked him. “Good.”
He started attacking elsewhere, three, four, six deflected blows before returning to the weak spot. Rhia winced as hard staff met with bruised flesh once more.
“You almost had me,” Kento encouraged. “You just need to move a little faster.”
“Hai.” She nodded and took up her stance, ready to start once more.
Rhia thought back to when her lessons with Kento had first started. The day after she arrived, she had gotten up to join their morning work-out. As it had been a Saturday, they had all slowed the pace so she could follow along, and then Kento had started working with her, showing her basic movements, stances, walking her through the first basic kata. For the first month, she had done nothing but basic katas, correcting her stances, her movement, learning how to move and balance and shift her weight correctly, joining in the morning warm-ups, then again practicing with Kento in the evening after he got home from work.
When she finally started working with the staff, she understood why it had been ignored at first. How could one expect to handle a weapon without first being able to handle themselves? And, on the weekends, they summoned their sub-armor and sparred, and helped Rhia tap into the armor's powers. But they could only guide her. Each armor had particular nuances all its own that had to be discovered by the bearer alone.
And slowly, she had started to mend. She had begun to have more faith in herself, and to trust these friends of Jade's, who she could now also call her own. They supported her, respected her, helped her, teased her, and proved to all be good counsel, when she needed it. She had to admit, Jade was right.
And Kento was kinda cute. But the one she craved, her crush, the one she longed for attention from was Ryo. He had captivated her ever since she first met him. She wanted him so badly, but was afraid for some reason. She wasn't ready to go chasing after another man yet, no matter how badly she wanted him. But if she could coerce him into making the first move… Well, that was different. But what was she thinking? She didn't even know if he was interested! Jade was his best friend, perhaps she could find out for her? Jade currently had her own problems, but hopefully they would work out sooner or later. Until then, she could always ask.
She watched Kento studiously and waited for him to attack her.

Later that morning, after practice, Sage approached Jade.
“Hey, Jade, I need to talk to you.”
She nodded and followed him out of the sparring room and on to the veranda, where they knelt beside a small table.
“I would like to apologize for my actions last night.” He was very formal, very polite, bowing to her. Jade appreciated the formality, but also recognized it for what it was—the ceremony was just another mask to hide behind, a wall to use to remain emotionally detached. And so, she too used that mask of politeness and formality, returning his bow.
“So sorry, Sage, but I can't accept. Last night was supposed to be an apology, and we both saw how well that turned out.”
“I know I screwed it up. But… This may sound bad, but I don't think I realized until last night how much I love you, and how you have gotten past all of my defenses to become an irreplaceable part of me.”
Jade sighed. “I love you, too, Sage. Probably more than you'll ever know. But I'm very angry and don't know if I'm willing to forgive you or give you another chance right now. Just give me some time to think, and to sort things out in my head right now, okay?”
Sage nodded, and she left the veranda.

Over the next few days, Jade spent more time with Rhia, Kento, Ryo and Rowen, but tended to go to Sai more often than not when she needed to talk. She had the sneaking suspicion he liked her, but she didn't know. She'd ask Ryo later—he'd be able to tell her. But she only acted happy and normal. The last few nights she had become quieter, more withdrawn, was having trouble sleeping, and so he had stayed with her, petting her gently until she fell asleep. And though he had asked her what was wrong, she couldn't tell him for sure, as she wasn't sure herself.
“It's called depression, Jade,” he told her one night.
She frowned at him. “I'm not depressed.”
“Yes, you are. You're having trouble sleeping, you have no appetite, you're more sullen, more moody, and when no one else is around, you're sad. You are suffering from depression. It happens to people, especially when they've gone through something emotionally traumatic and are separated from the one you love. And you and Sage have been together for a long time. Though you may deny it, he means a lot to you, and what he did hurt you, more deeply than I think even you know.”
She stared at him for a few minutes, processing everything he had just told her, checking it against everything she had felt over the last few days, and found out he was right. Damn him for being right.
“Then I don't know what to do, Sai. I suffer with him, I suffer without him. My mind says no, but my body says yes. How the hell am I supposed to fix this?”
“Well,” Sai paused and smiled. “Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.”
Jade rolled her eyes, but rewarded him with a smile. She leaned over, kissed him on the cheek and thanked him for staying with her. He told her she didn't have to thank him, but she only gave him a faint smile before laying down to sleep.
And even though Jade was wrapped up in her own affairs, she still had time to play match-maker for Rhia, and dig up some information for her, and for herself.
She and Ryo were sitting on the couch talking, and Jade had slowly worked the conversation around to Rhia.
“Yea, she was telling me she's really happy here. She loves you guys, and she's really proud of how far she's come. And, don't tell anyone, but she told me she's even thinking about finding a boyfriend.” Of course, Rhia had said nothing about looking for a boyfriend, but had only asked Jade to find out if Ryo liked her.
Ryo raised an eyebrow interestedly. “Oh really?”
“Yea, she told me that she's learned not to be afraid of a lot of things, and that now she has to show herself that she shouldn't be afraid of love or romance, either.”
“Hn.” He nodded his approval, but inside, his thoughts were running a mile a minute. He was interested her, but had kept his distance, considering the circumstances under which she had moved into their home. But now she was looking for a boyfriend? So that meant maybe now he could say, or do something… He looked up at Jade, who was studying him intently.
“What?”
“Oh nothing, you were just thinking awful hard, there.”
“Could you smell my brain burning?”
“Nah, not yet, anyway. But I was thinking of setting her up with someone, someone safe, that I know won't hurt her, at least for her first experience back in the dating world. You know, someone who will take her out and make her feel like the most beautiful and precious thing in the world on a regular basis, to show her how a woman should be treated.”
“Oh, and who were you thinking of to fill this position of the perfect boyfriend?” Ryo raised an eyebrow and looked at her suspiciously. He'd have to move fast if he wanted to get in before Jade meddled too much.
“Well, there are some guys I know down at the office, a couple of them I dated a few years ago, before I got together with Sage. I was thinking of setting her up with one of them. They're nice, and they'll respect her and treat her well.”
A look of jealousy flickered over Ryo's face as she spoke, and she knew she had him. “Why, were you thinking of someone else?”
“No. No, not really. She's… It'll be good for her to go out with someone again.”
Jade nearly cackled in her glee. She had him, and her answer, hook, line and sinker. It was so easy.
“Hey, on a different subject, I have a question for you.” She took a breath. “Do you think Sai likes me?” No need to beat around the bush dealing with herself.
“Well…” Ryo thought a moment. “I think so. But I think he's staying away from you because of Sage. I know, I know,” he said as she glared at him. “I know you two aren't technically a couple anymore. But you've been together a long time, and you have a connection that I think will withstand anything, whether the two of you realize it or not. But if you want Sai, you're gonna have to make the first move. Sage is too scary when he's angry for it to be any other way.”
“Hmm… Okay. Well, thanks.” She glanced up at the clock on the wall. “Hey I'm gonna go help Rhia start dinner. I'll catch ya later.” And she wandered off into the kitchen to find Rhia and tell her the news. With Ryo thinking she was going to set Rhia up with someone, he'd be making a move within the week. She was gonna be thrilled.

Later, after dinner, she spotted the moon rising outside and went to look at the stars. She lay in the soft grass, hands behind her head, gazing at the moon and beginning to pick out familiar constellations. She let the breeze wash over her, cooling and calming. She soon heard soft footsteps coming towards her, but kept her eyes on the stars, enjoying their beauty.
Sai looked down at her. She was gorgeous, her long purple hair spread on the grass, the reflection of the moon in her sparkling green eyes. He lay next to her on the grass, propped up on his elbows. “Are you okay?” he asked softly.
“Yes, I just needed to think,” she said. She sighed. “Aren't the stars beautiful?”
“Yes, very beautiful,” he replied, looking at the stars in her eyes.
Jade looked over at him and noticed he wasn't looking at the sky, and in her mind, she smiled wickedly. She sat up and looked down at him. “Why did you come after me?” she whispered softly, questioningly.
“Because I was worried about you. I sensed something wrong,” he said, sitting up.
“Oh, I think it was more than that,” she hinted, leaning in closer to him. “I think you want me to be more than just a friend.”
Sai's eyes widened slightly. She had caught him, and her eyes sparkled with that knowledge. He paused and looked away.
“Well?” she asked, knowing the answer but wanting to hear it.
“Jade, you know I care about you. You're so incredible; you're smart and sexy and beautiful, and just such a wonderful person, and it amazes me that Sage took that for granted.”
“Oh, Sai.” Her eyes shone with unshed tears.
Sai pulled her close to him and rested her head against his chest. “Shh… Don't cry, please?”
Sai tilted her chin upward and they gazed at each other for a moment before she reached up and kissed him softly. He broke off the kiss only to have Jade pull him into another one, this one strong, wanting, yearning. Her lips were infinitely soft and deliciously sweet, and he slowly deepened the kiss, not wanting it to end.
Jade broke off the kiss and gazed at Sai. When had her feelings for him become so much stronger? She didn't know, and she wasn't sure she really cared as he pulled her into another tentative kiss.
Sai pulled her into his lap and wrapped his arms around her waist as she wrapped her arms around his shoulders and buried one hand in his hair.
The kiss ended, and Jade pulled away. Should she be doing this? What about Sage? She still loved him. He'd be so hurt if he found out—like she had been. Oh Gods! She had forgotten about the time she had caught him with that other girl, until now. How could he do that to her?! Remembering it anew was like living it again. That-that… bastard! Womanizing asshole! Angry tears started to run down her cheeks as Sai's voice shocked her out of her reverie.
“Jade? What's wrong? Are you okay?”
Her attention snapped back to the present. “Yea, I-I just was thinking…”
“About what?” he asked, placing feather soft kisses on her cheeks, trying to erase her tears.
Jade pulled away from his tender ministrations. “Sage. And how he-he… I caught him with… with…” her voice failed her as she started sobbing.
“Oh Gods, Jade. Come on, I'm taking you inside. We can talk in your room.” He picked her up and carried her inside, allowing her to cry into his shoulder.
Sage started when he saw Sai carrying a crying Jade back into the house. He started to get up to help, but was stilled as Sai pinned him with a Look as he walked up the stairs. Sai never gave Looks. Unless he was fairly pissed off, that was. What had he done to upset Jade so much? Was this still about the other night? Sage settled back into the couch uncomfortably. He'd hear about it later, he was sure.
Sai set Jade softly on her bed and went to retrieve a clip and some oil. He swept her hair up into the clip so it was off her neck and gently pulled off her shirt. He poured a little of the rose and lavender scented oil into his hands and started to massage her back.
“I had forgotten…” she started. “I was thinking about if I should be kissing you, in your lap, thinking about how hurt Sage would be, catching me with you. That he would be as hurt as I was when I came home and found him with another woman.”
Sai's eyes widened, but he said nothing. Jade had caught Sage cheating on her? And she hadn't said anything? To anyone??
“It was 6 or 7 months ago… Right before Rhia moved out here, when I was supposed to take that business trip to Osaka. Well, the trip got cancelled last minute, and though Sage had dropped me off, I took a taxi home. Sage was the only one here, and I went upstairs to surprise him, but he hadn't closed the door all the way, and… he was in bed with some woman. I was so hurt, so shocked, I obviously wasn't supposed to know anything about her, and so I went to Osaka anyway, just to get away for a couple of days. I couldn't have stayed here and faced him after that. And being with you made me remember how much it hurt to see him with her. And if he really loves me, how could he do something like that?” Jade's tears slowed and finally stopped, and she relaxed, letting her chin rest on her chest as she felt Sai's hands run over her back.
“I don't know,” Sai replied, shocked by what she had told him. He felt Jade relax and continued to work the tension from her muscles. He ran his hands over her supple skin and started placing light kisses on her neck and shoulders. He heard her sigh softly. “Feeling better now?” he whispered in her ear.
“Yes.” She turned around so she was facing him. “Thank you.” She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him before pulling back to kiss him.
Sai wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close so her body was pressed against his. He slowly deepened the kiss and started running his hands over her back again.
Jade broke off the kiss. “Sai?”
“Hmmm?” He opened his eyes.
“What ever you do,” she kissed him again as she started unbuttoning his shirt, “don't stop.”
“What about Sage?” he asked.
Jade thought for a moment. What about him? She thought she loved him, but she wanted Sai. Sai treated her better than Sage ever had.
“Sage who?” she whispered breathily as she captured Sai's lips again, pulling his shirt off and running her hands up his chest and over his shoulders.
“Mmmm…” Sai gently parted her lips and slid his tongue inside, tasting her sweet mouth.
As the kiss ended, Jade tilted her head back, offering her neck, and he started kissing and sucking on it greedily as he unhooked her bra and tossed it aside.
Jade started moaning softly as she started licking and nibbling on the sensitive shell of his ear. His hands moved up to cup and fondle her breasts, the sensations sending waves of pleasure through both their bodies.
Sai marveled at what Jade was able to do to him, and that she wanted him as much as he wanted her. Her breasts were round and full, and larger than they appeared. He ran his hands over the silky skin, lightly pinching and playing with the hardening nipples as he started running kisses down her chest. He removed one hand and took the hard pink nipple into his mouth, sucking on it as his free hand moved down her body to work on removing her shorts.
Jade sighed softly at the pleasant sensation, running her hands through Sai's hair, pressing his head to her breast and grinding her hips against his hard member to make him moan as she adored the smooth, hard muscles on his arms, shoulders and back.
Sai removed her shorts and moved to suck on the other breast, nibbling softly on her nipple and eliciting more soft moans for his efforts. He started to pull off her underwear, but Jade stopped him.
“You first,” she whispered, capturing his soft, sweet lips with her own. She gently pushed him back onto the bed as she started removing his pants. Then, slowly, she started running kisses down Sai's neck and chest, pulling off his boxers.
Jade's wandering mouth reached his taut nipples and started licking and sucking on them, her other hand mimicking the motions he had used on her, pinching and massaging the neglected nipple. Her free hand was sliding lightly up and down the inside of his naked thigh, coming excruciatingly close to his erection but not touching it. As she moved her mouth to the other nipple, her hand slid up to encompass his member, wrapping her fingers around it and rubbing her thumb over the head.
Sai moaned, arching at the sensation. Slowly Jade started running kisses down his body and ran her tongue over his head, tasting the droplet of bittersweet moisture that had formed there. She sucked on his head luxuriously, enjoying the taste of him before plunging him into her mouth, to hear him moan loudly in response. She started to move over him, using her tongue to heighten the sensation as she sucked, moving her hand up to cup and massage the sac below.
“Jade…” Sai moaned. “Come… Come here.”
“Yes?” she purred as she climbed back up beside him.
He rolled over on top of her, kissing her passionately and grinding his hips against hers, letting her feel how hard he was where she wanted to feel it most. His lips and tongue blazed a trail of fire down her neck to her breasts, pausing there before pulling off her panties and continuing his downward trek to her lips. He licked her experimentally before starting to run his tongue over the sensitive nub and down between dewy folds before pushing it inside of her.
Jade moaned in ecstasy, one hand on the back of Sai's head, her own thrashing from side to side, her body writhing as waves of pleasure raked through her.
Sai started licking and sucking on her clit as he pushed a finger inside of her. She gasped at the intrusion, but started moaning as he worked his tongue over her, pushing his finger in and out. After a few minutes, he added another finger inside of her, reaching for that one spot—he smirked as the body under him arched and he heard her moan louder in response.
“Oh, Sai,” Jade moaned. “Take me. God, please take me.”
Sai gently withdrew his fingers before moving to lay on top of her again. Placing his hand on her cheek, he kissed her deeply as he teased her, sliding against her, grinding, but not entering.
“Oh, Gods, please. I want it,” she whispered as she wrapped her legs around him.
Sai kissed her again as he slowly slid inside of her. Giving her time to adjust, he slowly started thrusting in and out of her. As her moans increased, he increased his pace and the strength behind his thrusts. It felt so incredible to be inside of this emerald-eyed goddess, he thought the sheer notion of it would overcome him. But she moaned ever louder as his thrusts increased, driving him closer to the edge. The fact that her muscles clenched tight around him inside of her and how wet she was for him didn't help his longevity in the rapid race toward the finish, but he didn't really care. He was too caught up in the sensations her body caused for him to think.
Jade was in ecstasy. Sai was moaning on top of her, thrusting hard and fast. Then he reached down between them with a knowing smile to massage her clit. Jade nearly screamed and clung to Sai tightly as she neared orgasm.
His hard, deep thrusts drove her higher and higher, but the added stimulation drove her over the edge. She screamed when she came, arching into him as her mind shattered into a million glittering sparks of satisfaction, pleasure, contentment, love.
Sai heard Jade's scream echo in his ears as her inner walls clamped down around him. He managed one last deep thrust as he too orgasmed, filling her with his seed.
He collapsed beside her and they kissed softly before falling asleep in each other's arms.

Jade's scream echoed through the house. The other ronins looked at each other then simultaneously over at Sage.
Sage's face remained an impenetrable mask. This was not a good sign.
Rhia, who was sitting next to him, felt the atmosphere tingle with suppressed rage and hastily moved to sit on the other couch, on the other side of Ryo, putting as much space between her and Sage as possible.
The room became completely silent, no one daring to move for fear of setting off Sage.
“What?” he asked calmly.
Rowen was the only one brave enough to speak up. “Nothin'. Don't worry about it.” He was Sage's best friend. He was the least likely to piss him off.
“Okay. Fine.”
An uncertain atmosphere remained in the room the rest of the evening before everyone broke up and went to bed, the center of that dark cloud emanating from Sage.
