Deep in sleep the man who had been the Oni Masho dreamed...
The screams of the dying echoed as a legion of Oni called out for blood. He could see them devouring people, attacking the village. He felt his Scythe and chain in his hands. He leaped into battle knowing he had to destroy them to save this village. Leaping he threw out the weighted end to strike.
“...Red lightening strike...”
Red chains erupted from the ground to ensnare the largest Oni, he swung his scythe intending to gut the demon and spare the village. Half way into his arch, he felt the chains ensnare him. The Oni was sailing at him with a long curved blade. The blade sank in, and twisted. His scream mixed with those of the villagers. The Oni looked at him impaled upon the sword and removed his helm. He saw his own face sporting an evil smile...
“I am not so easily banished monk...” The oni snared.
The blade was twisted, and he screamed....
The Ex Masho woke, as predicted, screaming. He began clawing at the foreign thing attached to his face and the thing in his arm. Blind panic fueled his efforts, they had not truly taken into account his reaction to modern medicines. The first voice he clearly heard was the woman’s.
“Shush...” Came a voice out of the darkness. “It was a bad dream...”
No dream, that he knew. He freed his hand and began clawing at the thing again. Hands caught his and held them tightly. He realized just how warm he felt with these hands holding his.
“No, don’t do that, it will hurt if you rip it out...”
He turned his head to see a masked face, not an Oni but a Kitsune, a fox woman.
“Sleep Shuten, please...” She said.
He was only able to register this Fox woman had hair the color of old blood and eyes the color of cool jade before a dreamless darkness took him.
Sendril looked over at Yukito as the frost child set down the syringe. He sighed and then frowned. She had distracted the ex Masho long enough for him to inject the sedative.
“We were lucky I had that prepared...” Yukito said.
“Yes, we were...That is the first of many nightmares he will have, induced by Morphine or not.” She rose. “You’ll take over?”
He nodded, taking the stool she’d risen from.
“...We’ll keep him sedated for the night.” He said. “Go get some sleep; our red headed guest isn’t going anywhere...”
She stretched, took one last look at the Ex-Masho and headed for bed.
