Chapter One of Shadows of Cyan

At first it was rustling with a bunch of commotion's going on in an empty pit of darkness. Some where in the spinning chaos silence started to smooth every thing over. It was relaxing at first until it hit him. The aching pain pulsating through his head. Spreading through his body like a title wave: washing his nerves to a blunt aching pain. He tried to push it away and find the silence he knew before, but it did no good.
Shin could feel the darkness start to wipe away as he crept himself to wake up. Black melted away to give to a burning white light that turned into the ceiling. It took him a while to realize that he was lying some place strange, but as he tried to take in his surroundings another commotion started.
At first it startled him and his nerves sent shock waves through out his body as some one yelled out. Followed by a feeling of being attacked when arms went flying around him. Virtually shaking him senseless. Shin stayed froze in the tight grasp not knowing what to do at the moment.
"Hey, Ryo… give him some room to breathe." Touma said from the window on the other side of the bed.
"Yeah, look at him. He looks scared stiff." Shuu joked from behind Ryo.
Ryo loosened his embrace and slid his hand across Shin's cheek. Over powerfully enjoyed that Shin had came around and woke up. He couldn't help it though. The doctor said it was a low rate of waking up after the sustained loss of air: Seiji had found him just in time. Ryo felt like this was nothing short of a miracle. Again he held him tight and then started to lavish moist soft kisses over his tattered mate. Making his way over the side of his face to tinted: bruised lips. Where he found them slightly parted and began to taste them and give him a passionate kiss. Until he felt hands abruptly jerk him away.
Ryo stopped and pulled further away in astonishment. Looking at his former lover. That had a blank look on his face with mixture of fear or anger. He couldn't read witch one, but he could tell. Shin was repulsed and was ready to run.
"Shin?… " Ryo asked knowing there was something seriously wrong. Yet that look stayed as he stared back at him without answer.
The room went dead quiet and Ryo didn't dare move. He knew his lover to well. If he made the wrong move holy hell would be unleashed and Shin wouldn't stop until the last dog was hung.
"Don't ever… touch me again." Shin said with a horse throat.
"Hey… are you alright, Shin?" Shuu asked softly in shock of what he told Ryo.
Touma slowly slid off the windowsill and on to the floor. This turn of events made his stomach churn. "Shin?… "
Touma's voice made him jerk as he sat in bed and swiftly turn around to find him. Doing his best to keep an eye on the other two as well.
"Shin." Yet another voice stated as he looked. He saw a blonde standing in the hallway. Holding an armful of take out. "You're... awake!" Seiji said as he strolled on in and put the bags on the end of the bed. "How are you feeling?" He added as he took another step closer.
"Better if you stay away… " Shin blurted out. Making Seiji freeze and take a step back. He could see the hurt look on his face and realized how he sounded. "I mean… I need some space." He changed his tone.
Seiji looked at the others for some sort of explanation. "What's going on?" He asked sheepishly.
Shin tried his best to stay calm as he looked around the room. Trying to take in every thing that he saw and make them make sense. Obviously some thing had happened and it seemed the others were just as shocked as he was.
"I'll go hunt some one down… " Shuu said as he backed out of the room and disappeared.
"I'm… in a hospital… " Shin said softly to himself.
"Yes, you been here for about a week or so." Ryo answered in a gentle tone.
Shin scanned them twice over. "Why?… "
A slight sigh came from Touma as he tried to joke. "The accident… don't you remember, Shin?"
"You had us pretty worried about you." Ryo also tried.
"Wh… what accident?" Shin asked as he looked at the bandages on his arms and hands.
Ryo looked over at Seiji. Failing to find the words to tell Shin.
"What accident?" Shin asked again after not getting any kind of response.
"On the way home… from the movies." Seiji started as he ran his hand through gold locks. "I… I lost control in the rain."
"How bad… "
"It wasn't good, Shin." Seiji added. "We went down a steep bank and landed in the river." Seiji said as he looked away.
"Seiji found you down the river a ways." Touma finished for him.
Shin sat in bed stunned for a minute. Then the doctor came-walking in. "So, how's our patient doing today?" The doctor said as he quickly started checking vitals. "It's good you seem alert." He added as he stood back. "How do you feel?"
"Fine… I guess." Shin answered waiting for another question.
"Do you mind if your friends stay here, Shin? There are a few things I'd like to talk to you about."
"Actually… and not to be rude, but… I'd like you to leave." Shin said looking around at his friends.
"Ah, sure… " Touma said as he started out giving Seiji a tap on the arm as he did.
"See you later." Seiji said following suit.
"Be back in a bit." Shuu said as he left through the door.
Ryo stood next to the bed not wanting to leave at all.
"Please… " Shin asked with pleading eyes.
"Alright… I'll be right out side if you need me." He said as he left.
Ryo joined every one outside the room. Where they had found a spot to wait as Shin talked with the doctor.
"He kicked us out… " Shuu said under his breath.
"Maybe he just needed some privacy, Shuu." Ryo said to him.
"I don't know about that." Touma said from a folding chair.
"What do you mean?" Shuu asked now he had his attention.
"He's not acting normal. That's what he means." Seiji said with his arms folded and leaning against the wall.
"I don't blame him though… " Shuu tried to convince himself.
"Sure, I know what you mean, Shuu. It's just it's really not like him to refuse Ryo like that." Touma stated. Then quickly looked over to him. Where he saw that he had some sort of emotional look on his face. "I'm sorry… " He added.
"Don't worry about it." Ryo said then looked away. "Although, you're right. He's not acting like himself."
"Do you think it's just from every thing that's happened?" Shuu asked concerned.
"I don't know." Ryo said as the room door opened and the doctor walked out: shutting it behind him.
"So, what's going on Doc?" Shuu abruptly asked. "And why did he have us leave? We share every thing." He added.
The doctor stood there a second or two before answering any questions though.
"Please, tell us if it's really bad. We may not be related… but we're close if not closer than family." Ryo assured.
"Well… it's not good. Are you the ones he stays with?"
"Yes, Sir… " Ryo answered.
"Judging from his character. It could be from the experience it's self, but I'm concerned about just how much time had passed before you're friend there found him. I hope you are strong… he has a certain case of amnesia."
"Amn… what no, what do you mean?" Touma said as he stood up.
"Amnesia… he's lost some memories. In fact he doesn't remember any of you either. I thought this would be the case after reading the cat scans he had when they brought him in. He has bruising on the brain from colliding with the skull. This, with the fact of the lack of oxygen. Has a serious result, but… in a week or two I'd like him to come back. This way we can see just how serious it is. It could be that it isn't as bad as it looked and the cells could heal. Although, please don't count on that happening if at all any time soon."
"So, what should we do?" Seiji asked getting a quick look from the eye of Ryo.
"Go back in and convince him to go home with you. He seems to trust you so it shouldn't be too hard. He may be looking for a little guidance right now, but remember to give him space and above all… don't push any thing. You have to be strong and patient for him. It will be as frustrating for him as it is you." He advised.
"Alright, thank you." Ryo said as he started for the door.
"Any problems just call and ask for me." The doctor said as he gave Ryo a card.
Ryo took it and put it in the back of his pants. Walking in he found himself not know just how to act around him now.
"I thought you would have left." Shin said as he wormed into his shirt.
"We would never leave you." Touma said as he re-found his spot by the window.
Ryo cleared his throat and sat in the chair. "Are you ready to go home?"
Catching Shin's attention quickly. "Home?… "
"If you're uncomfortable with that…. After we get some of your stuff. We can call your mother and sister?" Ryo added.
Shin sat on the bed as he put his socks on. "Umm… why is my stuff at your place?"
"We been friends for along time, Shin. All of us have been living together, since around fifteen or so."
"And… I'm suppose to believe that?" Shin said after sliding the last sock on.
"We don't expect you to believe any thing." Seiji said from the bathroom doorway.
"I… guess I should trust you a little any way. After all, you were all here when I woke up. So, that has to mean some thing, right."
"If at any time you want to leave. Just let us know and we'll make arrangements for you." Touma said giving Shin a jacket.
"Okay… then let's go home." Shin said as he put it on.
Back at the house Shin followed them through and tried to take in what they told him.
Technically Nasutei's house.. just living here. Touma, blue hair… smart. Shuu… big brawly, funny and blunt. Seiji's the blonde… doesn't talk much and seems smooth but rigid. Ryo… dark hair and blue eyes… what else was there?… Oh yeah, he's also what seems the alpha male of the group. Pet… tiger, presently with Nasutei for traveling reasons… have no clue. Living room, kitchen, bathroom… Touma's room… Shuu's… blah blah blah…. Ookay then… so it seems I'm part of a slightly different crowd. I wonder just how I fit in here? Or if I really even did?…
"This seems like a lot to take in guys." Shin said as he stopped in the upper hallway.
"You're right… how about we call it a night." Ryo said as he opened yet another door. "This one is yours."
"Mine, huh… " Shin said as he wandered in and started to look around.
"We didn't know when you'd be home or we would have cleaned it up a bit." Touma said as he ran around picking up a few shirts and pants. "I would have also picked up my stuff." He said as he left with an armful.
"How long was I gone?" Shin joked.
"Only about a week max." Shuu said leaning on the dresser.
"So… why was his stuff in here?" Shin asked then got strange looks. "I didn't mean to be rude… "
"its not that… it's just you normally don't sleep in here that much." Seiji stated looking around the room. "You normally let him sleep here. When he needs to be alone."
"Why don't I sleep here? This is my room… "
They looked to Ryo and Shin could see that question bothered them. "What's… going on?"
"Oh my… " Shin said as he sat on the bed. He tried to hold back a cold sweat as he thought about it.
"We didn't know how to tell you. We didn't know how you'd take it." Ryo said as Touma came back into the room.
"I don't know what to say… " Shin said as if lost in breath.
"It's okay, Shin. It's one of the last things you should have to think about at this time." Ryo said as he put his hands in his pockets.
"He's right… you should actually take a break. You've had a long day." Shuu said as he started to leave.
"True… hey if you need us we'll be down stairs." Touma said as he started to go.
"See you later, Shin." Ryo said as he left also.
Seiji stood there a second before he started off.
"Seiji… " Shin said softly catching before he was gone.
"Yes… " Seiji said as soon as he heard him.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome." He said and shut the door.
Down in the kitchen Seiji found Ryo sitting at the table with a cup of cocoa.
"You handled that well." Seiji said as he went strait to the fridge.
"I didn't know what else to say or do. He's… he's so different."
"Different?" Seiji said uncapping a cold jug of water.
"He's with holding so much from me. He's… like some one I don't know, I can't explain it."
"He's still Shin, Ryo. That's still the same. No matter what else is different… he's still Shin."
"Maybe to you, but that's because you two were never that close... let alone know each other like with him and I."
Seiji felt his gut churn as he choked on a swallow of water. Sure… he liked Shin even to the point of finding him attractive at times. Although, the truth was they never did get all that close. Seiji always stood three feet away from that line and stayed friends. This was where he stood his ground. Mostly because he was complicated and had too many levels to divulge through to get to the center and really know him. Seiji wiped his chin and could feel his 'I told you so' creeping in.
"I may not have been close as you… " Seiji said trying to hold back his tone and continued. "But I know what Shin is like and he's just starting out new."
It was still a shock to him that Ryo and Shin had even gotten together. From the first time Ryo went after him he couldn't believe it. He had never pictured them two as a couple. Ryo was blunt and outgoing. Always in the fast lane kind of like Shuu in a way. Shin was much more tied to the inner self than just living. Although there were times Shin had put that analogy to shame. At times he could be just as unpredictable and fast moving as the wind. Forcing every thing out of way and shoving obstacles to the ground with a glance. Perhaps that's where the two found common ground. He didn't know, but he had a gut feeling one would end up hurt.
"Of course he's a little different, Ryo. He has to get comfortable again that's all." Seiji added.
"I'm not raising a child to be my lover, Seiji. Let him get comfortable?… Is this suppose to be like our second chance?"
"Think of it how ever, Ryo. Although… would it be right to break some thing off just because of an accident?"
"He wouldn't have even had to worry about that if it wasn't for you, Seiji."
"Oh so now you want to not only blame the accident but also your relationship troubles on me to."
"You know I was going to break it off any way, Seiji." Ryo said getting frustrated.
"So, tell me.. just why were you going to do that?"
"That's our business."
"Great… I get the blame and don't know the other story about why. Give him a break, Ryo. He couldn't have been that bad of a partner."
"How would you know. You two were barely friends at times."
"There's no need to keep trying to throw that in my face. I know where and just how we stood as friends. So, make whatever excuses, Ryo. Just leave me out of them from now on." He said putting the jug back.
"If only Shin knew you left him down there… "
"Shove it. I did what I had to do for every one else."
"I will never… believe that." Ryo said back.
"Believe what ever." Seiji said as he left.
Ryo watched as he disappeared out of the room. He couldn't help how he felt about the whole thing. It was no secret that Shin and his relationship was on the verge of breaking. In fact Ryo had already found some one new. Some one that had been interested in him for quite some time now and he didn't want to miss out on it, because he felt the same way for that person. He couldn't help but wonder… should the accident really interfere with every thing that was already going on? Shin meant every thing to him and it was only going to end up in the gutters any way. Should he just wait it out and stay by his side. Until things went awry to where they were before? Then again… the person he wanted to move on to was another question indeed. Just what would the blonde do? After all… he had his eye on the archer for quite some time also.
Ryo went up to his room and tried to sleep in an empty bed. He tossed and turned since his mind kept trying to figure out what to do. He wondered how could such a wonderful day become one of the worse ones he ever had. He cuddled the covers in apologies. The night he wanted to break it off… was the night he had almost lost him completely. When he was returned to him… he still felt the need to break it off. Yet… there was still a strong urge to keep him as close as possible. He couldn't bear to have him not close. He wondered if his reasoning for not wanting it as much as he did want his love. Was actually good enough to break it off. Then it happened…
The door slowly opened and he turned over to see Shin in the shadows of the moon. He looked unsure and somewhat lost. Yet it didn't effect him being there. Standing there by his bedside looking down at him with his emerald green eyes.
"Shin?… " Ryo said as he sat up.
"I… I don't know why I'm here, Ryo." Shin said as he bit his lip.
"It's okay… "
"As far as we are concerned… it's so vague yet. Yet, there's umm… " Shin stopped and Ryo could see he was ready to give up.
"It's alright, Shin. You don't need to go through this right now and… "
"Please?… "
"Okay… go ahead." Ryo answered gently.
"There's blurred images… like a broken mirror. I don't know if I'm ready, but… " Shin stopped there not really sure of how to proceed.
"Between us… " Ryo said as he reached up and sat him down next to him. Slowly leaning into the nook of his neck and whispered to him with gentle kisses. "There's no need for words."
It was intoxicating to have him near again. To smell, touch and taste him again. The delicate fabrics that separated his touch to his lovers skin. Was slowly removed to enjoy and not to scare him off. Ryo laid him back to the linen and relished in his senses. He always tasted so good. Like some thing sweet with just a hint some thing tangy: such as syrup and maple. Yet still refreshing as the august breezes. This was his Shin. This was what he craved that only so few others knew.
The soft gusts escaping the felt and silken lips. Quickly led him to follow suit. Shin was always the submissive and always let him do as he wanted. Never taking the upper hand no matter what. Why should he when he had nothing but the utter trust of his being. Entrusted to Ryo who had never truly gave him reason not to. With each touch a crack in the mirror slowly melded together. Making the next kiss each more cherished.
This night had opened another door to a next. Letting opportunities call out through the night. Pulling and pushing each one to the extremes. Where every thing made sense in the chaos of darkness. Tearing into and apart the very core of the emotions that were held deep inside. Where every thing was wrong and yet twisted inside out where it was nothing more than right. This night… this night held witness to the end of every thing that once was. To a new beginning where nothing was certain and didn't make sense. This night every thing was held in highest ranks to every one in the shadows of the moon. Where love was lost? Or perhaps just on trial? That was some thing that the night never revealed. When showing and illuminating all its secrets to those that had gotten lost in the mists of cyan.
