TRAVELING

"Mr. Himura!" the police chief said.

"What is it?" Kenshin asked.

"We require your assistance!"

"What for?" Megumi asked cautiously, while hitting Sano, causing him to become unconscious again.

"There is an individual in Kyoto that calls himself Katsu," he explained.

"Katsu, as in victory?" Aoshi asked.

"Yes," the chief said. "He has been destroying property, and people's lives in the process."

"Why can't the police handle it?" Sango asked.

"Everyone that we sent after him never returned. We are also giving you extra help. Please come in you two," the chief exclaimed. Saito and Cho both walked through the door.

Saito noticed Sano on the ground and commented, "The moron should no better than to sleep in places such as this."

Just as if it was fate, Sano popped up and immediately yelled, "WHO ARE U CALLING A MORON!?"

"Wasn't he unconscious a moment ago?" Misao asked.

"Sango, can you please shut him up!" Megumi begged.

"Gladly," Sango informed her. She walked to left the room. A moment later she came back with her boomerang and Kirara. She walked up to Sano and brought the boomerang down, crashing on his head, rendering him unconscious.

"I like her already," Cho laughed, then he noticed Kagome and quickly ran up to her. "Hey sweetie," Cho told Kagome. "Would you like to go out with me?"

This comment earned Cho an evil glare and a fist straight in the face. "In your dreams!" Kagome growled.

After Cho recovered from the punch, he immediately got back up and said, "I like them feisty!"

"You touch me, you die!" Kagome informed him sternly.

"She's serious you know," Sango told Cho. "And if you survive her attack, which is highly doubtful, I'll finish the job myself." After seeing the glint in both Kagome's and Sango's eyes, Cho backed away from both of them as fast as he possibly could.

"Are you going to help us or not, Battousai?" Saito asked getting slightly annoyed.

"How many have died?" Kagome wondered.

"What?" Saito asked.

"Just answer the question!" Kagome demanded.

"Sixty people," the chief answered.

"How long has this been going on?" Sango interrogated.

"One month," the chief replied.

"Two a day, on average then. At this rate we'll lose more people than we can afford to lose," Hiko commented.

"I'll do it," Kenshin decided.

"Good! Come on we-" Saito began.

"Not without me!" Kagome commanded.

"It's too dangerous," Saito informed her.

"Too dangerous? For the past three years, I have been wondering around Japan. For three years, I have had my life threatened every single day. For three years, I have been fighting against harder enemies then most people will ever see in their life, so don't you dare tell me it's too dangerous!" Kagome stressed.

"Fine," Saito said not wanting to get Kagome any angrier.

"Kagome isn't going anywhere without me!" Sango stated firmly.

"You two will slow us done terribly," Saito commented.

"Now we won't," Kagome smirked.

"Prove it," Saito commanded.

"Fine," Kagome told him smugly. "Kirara!" Everyone looked at the little kitty.

"That?" Cho asked. "How is that-"

He never finished his sentence because during it a fire suddenly surrounded Kirara. "You're cat is burning!" Yahiko panicked. Everyone was thinking the exact same thing, but calmed when they noticed no panicking coming from Kagome and Sango.

"She's fine," Kagome told them. "Keep watching." They all gasped at the small fire grew into the size of a bonfire, and a giant shadow with yellow eyes appeared through the flames. The flames instantly bursted away from the shadow and disappeared, causing everyone, who hadn't seen this before, to shield their eyes. When they looked at the spot where the kitten once stood, they saw a giant lion-like cat with red eyes, two tails, and two long fangs. What really confused them was the fact that the large cat had the exact same markings as Kirara.

"What is that?" Misao asked.

"That's Kirara," Sango explained.

"But Kirara is a small cat!" Yahiko exclaimed.

"To be more exact, she is a fire neko. Her form you saw earlier was her temporary form. The one you see before you is her true demon form. In this form she can also fly," Kagome informed them.

"Kirara is a demon?" Megumi questioned with disbelief heavily laced within her voice.

"That's a demon?" Saito questioned.

"Yes, Kirara is a demon, and demons vary from size, strength, to appearance and position," Sango told them.

When it appeared as if they still didn't get it, Kagome tried to explain, "Think of it this way. A demon is like an animal. There are different breeds with different abilities, strengths, appearances, and status on the food chain." They still appear to be confused, but they understood it slightly more.

"Fine," Saito muttered.

"I have a feeling everyone else will come," Kenshin informed Saito.

"Except me," Hiko stated.

"Except for Hiko," Kenshin agreed.

"I have no choice, do I?" Saito asked.

"Nope!" Kagome said cheerfully.

"Fine." Saito sighed.

~*~*~ Next Day

Saito was extremely annoyed. He had come to get Kenshin, only Kenshin, and ended up getting more than half a dozen. `I feel like I'm babysitting,' Saito mentally cursed. `At least they have some fire to them. Aoshi might be help, but the moron certainly won't. The two new girls I'm not so sure about, but at least they won't slow us down.' He saw everyone come out of the dojo. Kenshin and most of them were in their regular clothing. Aoshi and Misao were in their ninja clothing, and Sango was in her demon-exterminating outfit. Kagome was in a similar outfit as Sango's except the armor was dark violet, instead of pink. When everyone saw Sango's and Kagome's outfit, their jaws dropped to the ground.

"What ARE you doing?" Cho asked.

"Come near me and die," Kagome threatened Cho.

"We're wearing demon-exterminator outfits," Sango informed them.

Saito smirked. `I guess this trip will be more entertaining than I thought,' Saito told himself.

~*~*~ First Day on the Trail

Total of the Journey so Far:

Cho= punched/slapped 13 times for making a move

Saito= insulted others (mainly Sano and Misao) 6 times

Sano= knocked out 6 times, insulted 4 times

Sango= knocked out Sano 5 times, hit Cho 4 times

Kagome= hit Cho 6 times

Kenshin= Oro'd 13 times

Aoshi= rolled eyes 9 times

Misao= insulted 2 times, hit Cho 1 time

Megumi= knocked out Sano 1 time, hit Cho 2 times\

Yahiko= tripped 8 times

Hiko= went through 9 bottles of sakè

Megumi and Yahiko were ridding on Kirara cause they got tired. Kagome was walking in the front with Kenshin and Saito because she and Kenshin were trying to keep Saito away from Sano. Behind them was Sango with Aoshi and Sano. Sango and Aoshi were with Sano because they were trying to keep Sano from killing Saito. Next were Megumi, Misao, Yahiko, and Kirara. Yahiko and Kirara were trying to keep Megumi and Misao fro, killing both Sano and Saito. And bringing up the rear was Hiko and Cho. Hiko's job was to keep Cho away from all of the females.

"So, then you are a warrior," Saito commented after hearing Kagome's story. He had to admit that he respected the girl. She was kind and sweet, but she was also a fierce warrior. She showed mercy and would think about others before herself, even if she were dieing.

"I'm more life a fighter," Kagome corrected.

"What's the difference?" Kenshin questioned.

"A warrior kills with a sword. A fighter can use all types of weapons only to defend others and themselves," Kagome explained.

~*~*~ Nighttime

Conversations like the one Kagome held continued until nightfall. When deep night began to descend, they decided it was time to make camp. Kagome leaned against a tree with all of the females with her. The males were on the other side of the fire.

"Why do I have to be near him!?" Sano yelled pointing at Saito.

"No one cares, so shut up," Saito murmured trying to keep his voice down so he wouldn't awaken the harpies, known as woman.

" I CARE!!!" Sano bellowed, raising his voice to an inhuman level. After he said this he was hit in the head with rocks, sticks, Sango's boomerang, and Misao's throwing knives.

"SHUT UP!!!!!!" they all yelled in unison with tired voices. They had been asleep until Sano woke them up, and they were extremely grumpy. But Sano didn't hear them. He was once again unconscious do to the force of the boomerang, rocks, and sticks, not to mention that he conscious was fading due to the blood loss he received form the knives. After a few moments of ranting, the females slipped into their deep sleep again.

"Remind me never to wake a woman in the middle of the night, unless I'm prepared to face their wrath," Hiko commented dryly. All of the men nodded their heads and tried to fall asleep.

~*~*~ Second Day on the Trail

Kenshin awoke to the smell of something being cooked. When he opened his eyes, he noticed that the only person awake was Kagome, and she was cooking something. "Why are you up so early?" Kenshin asked drowsily.

"I'm used to getting up this early and cooking breakfast for everyone," Kagome answered.

"If you don't mind me asking, what are you cooking?" Kenshin wondered.

"I don't mind. I'm cooking ramen."

"Oro!? What's ramen!?"

"You'll just have to wait and see," Kagome giggled.

The next to awaken were Aoshi, Hiko, Saito, and Sango. "You're cooking already?" Sango questioned with awe within her voice.

Kagome smiled, " You of all people should know that old habits die hard." The men who were awake raised eyebrows at this.

"I need more sakè," Hiko mumbled.

"You know too much alcohol is bad for you," Kagome commented.

"It's my body," Hiko retorted.

"I never said it wasn't," Kagome defended herself.

"Do you cook anything like Karou?" Aoshi asked cautiously.

"How does Karou cook?" Kagome wondered, feeling anger snake up her spin for some reason that was unknown to her.

"Terribly," all the men said at once.

"No, Kagome is a good cook, " Sango reassured them.

"Besides this is easy to make," Kagome informed them. "Do me a favor and wake the others, it's almost done." Everyone awake obliged her request and went to get eh others up.

"What is this?" Megumi asked at the bowl in her lap.

"It's called ramen, and it's really good." Sango informed her.

Megumi hesitantly took a bite under the watchful eyes of the others. When she swallowed it her eyes widened and she muttered, "This is better than miso soup!" Without further ado, Sano and Yahiko started scraping down their ramen while the others ate normally.

Halfway through the meal, Kagome stood up and gathers her bows and arrows. When she was about to walk into the forest, Kenshin asked, "Where are you going?"

"I'm hunting," was Kagome's simple reply.

"Why?" Saito questioned.

"Kirara needs to eat too," Kagome told him before disappearing within the trees. Then minutes later, she came back with two dead rabbits and handed them to Kirara, who gladly ate them in her demon form. When all had finished their meal, they started out again in the exact same formation they had the day before.

~*~*~ Afternoon

They had walked the entire morning and only stopped for lunch. They were extremely fast and expected to be in Kyoto in two days. They would have kept on going, but unfortunately bandits stopped them. "What do you want?" Kagome growled when forty bandits surrounded them.

"You must pay to walk throw here!" one of them ordered. Then he looked at the females, especially Kagome. "And your woman will come with us too!" When the bandit said this, Kenshin felt his control over Battousai slipping and slipping quickly. He was about to kill the bandit when Kagome spoke up.

"I would never go anywhere with a bandit! They're repulsing!" Kagome yelled. This received growls, sneers, and snorts. "And the fact that you are all demons, makes you even more repulsing." The bandits and Kagome's companions were extremely surprised.

"How did you know!?" another demon bandit demanded.

"I sensed your aura," Kagome replied calmly.

"How!?" another demon bandit yelled.

"I'm a miko, that's what I do," Kagome informed them.

The leader of the demonic bandits approached Kagome then his eyes widened. "Lady Kikyo. I didn't know it was you," he murmured.

"Did you say Kikyo?" Sango asked coldly.

"Of course! Are you stupid?" the demon bandit leader scoffed.

Kagome stomped up to him. He then noticed that her eyes were kinder and held more emotion, not to mention she smelled different. "I'M NOT KIKYO!!!" Kagome yelled.

"You're right, you're not her. To bad for you though." the leader muttered. He had his demonic bandits attack them, but they were all killed by Sango, Kirara, and Kagome in seconds, leaving the leader the only one alive.

Kagome walked up to the leader once again, and noticed that his eyes held no light. She decided to not attack him with her arrows. Her palms started to glow white instead of light purple. She then placed her right hand on his forehead, and he fell unconscious. Sango was about to kill him, but Kagome demanded, "Don't kill him! Put him on Kirara's back, and let's keep going!"

Sango was about to ask why, but she decided not to. Kagome walked on, but she was too absorbed in her thoughts to notice anything around her. `Kikyo is alive?' Kagome pondered.

~*~*~ Nighttime

They were camped and making dinner from the animal they had hunted. It was then that the demonic bandit awoke. Everyone noticed this and surrounded him with their weapons ready. When his eyes opened, the first thing he noticed was Kagome. "Kikyo!? What are you doing here!?" the demon yelled.

Kagome got a good look at him. Strangely, he looked almost exactly like Kouga. "I thought we went through this already. I'm not Kikyo. You of all people should know this, Kouga."

"It's Kouga?" Sango asked.

"How do you know my father?" the demon asked.

"You're Kouga's son!?" Sango yelled.

"Did Kouga end up with Ayame?" Kagome asked Kouga's son.

"How do you know my mother and father?" the demon demanded.

"Hah! So they did become mates. I knew it!" Kagome cried.

"I ask you again, how do you know my parents!?"

"I knew them a long time ago before they were mates!"

"You're human, that is impossible," Kouga's son informed them.

"What is your name?" Kagome asked.

"My name is Isamu."

"Figures," Sang muttered. (AN: Isamu is a name that stands for bravery!)

"Are your parents still alive?" Kagome asked.

"Yes. I'm also their oldest son," Isamu informed them.

"Why did you attack us?" Sango asked seriously.

"What are you talking about?" Isamu questioned.

"Don't act innocent. You know exc-" Sango began.

"He's telling the truth, Sango," Kagome told Sango trying to stop her from killing Isamu.

"What do you mean?" Saito asked.

"His eyes looked exactly like Kohaku's," Kagome muttered.

"He was under mind control?" Sango interrogated.

"Yes. I recognized the mark," Kagome mumbled.

"What mark?" Hiko pondered.

"When someone is out under mind control, a mark is left, and that mark is a way of recognizing who is controlling that person. Each person has a different mark," Kagome explained.

"Whom does the mark belong to?" Sango asked slowly, somewhat afraid of the answer she was going to receive.

"Kikyo."
