A Blessed Day
Chapter 1: The morning of

It was the day everyone had been waiting for. It was the day of Kenshin and Kaoru's wedding.
It was late summer, but it didn't feel like it. The temperatures felt much like early spring, and all of
the flowers were in bloom. Kaoru was sitting inside the dojo thinking about all the time she had spent with Kenshin over the
period of their engagement. It had been a short engagement, because they couldn't wait to get married. But it had been such a blissful and happy time. The two of them no longer had to hide their passionate love for each other inside.
Everday Kenshin had left a single red rose on Kaoru's pillow with a note saying how many days until their wedding and an "I love you".

'My handsome swordsman.' Thought Kaoru.

'Whoever thought that Kenshin could have such a romantic side to him?'

The wedding was to be at six o'clock in the evening, so it was very formal.
Kenshin was staying at Sanosuke's place along with Yahiko, Hiko, and Aoshi.
Megumi, Misao, Tae and Tsubame were all at the dojo to help Kaoru get ready for the big day.
Kaoru glanced over to her wedding kimono which was pure white and made of all silk. It truly was beautiful.
It had been her mother's, and Kaoru had always dreamt of the day that she would get wear it.

"Hey Kaoru!!!" Screeched Misao. "You'd better come get in the bath!! You don't want to be late for your own wedding do you?"

Kaoru got up slowly, still dreamily thinking of Kenshin.

"Kaoru come on!!! If you keep thinking about you're wedding you'll never get there!!!"

"You're right Misao. I better get going."

Misao glanced knowingly at her best friend.

"I know you can't stop thinking about Himura. That's how I've felt ever since Aoshi asked me to marry him two weeks ago."

Misao smiled thinking about Aoshi.

"It really seems like only yesterday that I met Kenshin in the streets of Tokyo and tried to bash his head in with my bokken.
But so much has happened since then. We've laughed, cried, made new friends, and been to hell and back again. But we always did it together.
And now the day has finally come when I get to marry the man of my dreams, Kenshin Himura. Kaoru Himura. I really like the sound of that.
Well I better go get in the bath. I can't keep Kenshin waiting."
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kenshin was pacing around Sano's apartment muttering to himself.

"Oh I hope I don't do something stupid that would embarass myself or Kaoru, that I don't."

The Battousai and the Ruroni begin arguing inside Kenshin's head.

- "So we're getting married today. Never thought it would happen. You are so tactless when it comes to women." Said the Battousai.

- "Well" said the ruroni. "I never seemed to need you're help when I was proposing to Kaoru, now did I?"

- "You sure could have used it. I remeber that as if were yesterday. You sounded like such an idiot. Oh Kaoru I've always loved you, but I'm so unworthy, oh Kaoru. Maybe you're unworthy Ruroni, but I the infamous Hitokiri Battousai, unworthy I don't think so.
I think it would have sounded much better if I had made up the proposal speech. But no. Do you ever listen to me? No." Stated the Battousai very conceitingly.

- "Well Kaoru seemed to like it. And anyway she loves me not you, so I really think that this conversation is done."

- "Oh I don't think so mister wandering samurai."

- "I know so Battousai."

Kenshin then blatantly ignores everything the Battousai says.

"Hey Kenshin don't you think it's time to get dressed buddy? We have to leave in an hour." Sano had just come into the room.

"Oro? In an hour?"

"Ya buddy so you'd better go get ready and stop spacing out. You're getting married today remember?"

Sano laughed at his own joke.

"Oh I just hope I din't mess up that I don't."

"Aw come on Baka Deshi. The worst that could happen is that she would leave you for another man. Hahaha!!!" Laughed Hiko.

As Kenshin glanced at Hiko, there was a slight glint of amber in his eyes. For once in his life, Hiko shutup.

"Everyting will be fine Kenshin. Don't worry." Said Sano.

"Ya, Kaoru is more likely to mess up than you." Said Yahiko

Aoshi glances up from meditating.

"If you are nrevous Kenshin, then why don't you meditate for a while?"

"That's okay Aoshi. I'm not really one for meditating that I'm not. Besides I really have to get ready to go."

"Yes I suppose so." Aoshi goes back to medtating.

Kenshin goes into the other room where his wedding clothes were hanging. He slipped on his black silk gi and hakama. Then he put on his geta.
Hiko had bought all of these things for him. Kenshin had tried to protest, but Hiko had said that since he was practically Kenshin's father , he insisted on buying them.
They were very fine clothes anyway, and Kenshin had thanked Hiko profusely.

'He really was my father after my real father died. He took me in and raised me. I really don't know where I'd be without him.' mused Kenshin.

He then began to think of Kaoru.

'My beautiful Kaoru. I love you more than anything in the world. You are more precious to me than life itself.
you're love is the most wonderful thing to ever happen to me.'

He traces his cross shaped scar with his finger.

"I promise I'll never let the ghosts of the pasts interfere in our life together. I"ll
never let anything harm you. I swear."

Kenshin walks back into the other room where his friends are waiting. They all stared.

"Is there something wrong with me?" Asked Kenshin.

"You just look so.... different Kenshin." Said Hiko.

"Ya not you're usual pink gi." Said Yahiko.

"It's magenta that it is." said Kenshin. "Do I look different in a bad way or a good way?"

"In a good way Kenshin, in a good way." Sano assured him. "Anyway we better get going everybody the carriage is here."

They all stepped outside into the warm sunlight and got in the carriage.
