Kaoru had awoken to hearing a loud Thud. She looked around, and saw she was in her room. She slowly tried to rise, and cringed in pain.

"You really shouldn't sit up there, if you're going to fall." She heard Misao say.

"Well had I known I was going to go to sleep I wouldn't have." Kenshin argued

Slowly she sat completely up ignoring the pain. She flipped the covers off, and braced to push herself up. She heard Misao's ramble of question, unable to discern exactly what she said.

"Still is sitting up there wise, I mean if you get lost in your thoughts you could be a target for people, or there is a chance that you might move or something maybe falling on your head." Kaoru stood up as Misao continued.

"You could also witness something you wouldn't want to, or sitting up there could make it easier to see enemies. The roof could be weak to and you could fall through it, or..."

Kaoru took one step and heard Misao be cut off. She then heard Aoshi say, "Misao please refrain from speaking that much."

Kaoru's eyes opened wide as she made it to the door.

"Why would I do something stupid like that?" She heard Misao say.

"Rambling like you do is hard to understand you never take breaths in between your sentences. You also speak so fast we can't understand you anyway." Aoshi answered.

Kaoru placed her hand on the shojo, cringing in pain once again.

SLAP

Kaoru pulled the door open slightly and looked out. She saw Misao trembling in anger, and watched her walk into her and Aoshi's room.

SLAM

Kaoru placed her hand on her head. `All these noises are giving me a headache' Kaoru thought as she slowly slid the door open. She saw Aoshi rub his cheek.

Well she seems to be back to normal." Kenshin stated. Aoshi shrugged and dropped his hand.

Kaoru stumbled over to the stairs and hung on to the post. She looked at Kenshin who had a smile on his face, but his eyes were dull. Aoshi's back was to her.

"Would you mind being quiet it's loud enough with the bugs. You all yelling and slamming things; is hurting my head."

Aoshi and Kenshin turned to Kaoru and stared at her wide-eyed. Kaoru swore under breath as her breath quickened and the pain in her left chest area hurt. Kaoru slid to her knees, and let go of the post. She breathed deeply and grabbed at her side.

Kenshin was by her side in a minute. "Miss Kaoru, you shouldn't be moving yet, you should still be resting." Kenshin picked her up as carefully as he could. She still hissed in pain. He walked to her room and laid her back in her futon.

Kaoru sighed as the pain lessened. She glanced at Kenshin, seeing the remorse in his eyes. "What's wrong Kenshin?"

Kenshin hid his eyes behind his bangs. "I will be going to talk to Saitou later today."

"Oh." Kaoru said as she reached her hand out to touch his. Kenshin pulled his hand away before she could touch it. Kaoru got angry and dropped her hand to the futon. "Why?"

Kenshin stood and walked to the door. He turned to look at her, their eyes meeting. "So that he can protect you." Kenshin turned around and left quickly.

Kaoru sat stunned, `Why not stay and protect me yourself?' She questioned in her mind.

"No." Kaoru whispered, tears started falling down her cheeks. She wept silently as thoughts of the previous days came to mind.

Aoshi had moved to stand next to the tree. He looked back at Kenshin, "So what will you do now?"

Kenshin looked up at his friend. "I will be going to tell Megumi she has awakened, and I will go talk to Saitou as soon as I can." Kenshin was standing next to Aoshi both were looking up at the night sky.

"Hmm" Aoshi responded a while later, as he heard Misao exit the room. He turned his head to look at her, her eyes were puffy, and she was sniffling. She didn't glance at him once. Instead she walked silently over to Koru's room and opened the shojo noiselessly.

"AHHHHHHHH," Misao screamed as she rushed into the room and hugged Kaoru. "WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME SHE WAS AWAKE?" Misao rushed back out and glared at both men.

Aoshi shook his head. "Misao she has a head ache screaming your head off isn't going to help." Misao's anger disappeared and she looked down.

"Miss Misao why don't you keep Miss Kaoru company, while I go out?" Kenshin smiled slightly. "Aoshi isn't up to it yet." Misao nodded and went into Kaoru's room.

Aoshi sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. "Don't be angry, she has a lot of spirit." Kenshin chuckled. Aoshi glanced at him and then turned back to looking at the tree.

"Yes she does, but that spirit gets her into trouble."

"Yes it probably does, but her spirits keeps you in a tolerable mood for all of us." Kenshin waited for the glare. `There it is,' He smiled slightly. "I'm sure Miss Kaoru will let you stay here, after all the last place you were was blown up right." Aoshi tensed and nodded. "I will be going now."

"That's why Saitou." Kenshin stated as he sat down in the chair

"Hmm," Was his response, while he stood and glowered at him. "You got emotionally involved. That's why you don't guard family members or friends." Saitou took out a cigarette and lit it. "Who would you like to take your place?"

Kenshin sighed and undid his hair. "You." Kenshin looked at the older gentlemen.

"Very well, you will take the job I was assigned this morning." Saitou puffed out the smoke from his cigarette and then smashed it into the ashtray. "You will be guarding Tokonom, Shiteru. He's a government official that has had men try to take his life a few times this week. Unlike most the others, he has kept up with his sword fighting, but it is still not as great when the revolution was." Saitou threw a picture on the desk in front of him and the address. "You will start tonight at 8:00."

"Has this man been informed of his protector yet?"

"No, I was to introduce myself this evening to him." Saitou answered rather quickly.

"Alright, I will leave." Kenshin stood and walked from the office.

Saitou sighed and picked up his coat and left the office, locking the door. `This is going to be a long day.'

TWO WEEKS LATER

"NOT AGAIN SAAAAAANNNNNNOSSSSKEEEEE," Kaoru shouted as she chased him around the Dojo with a broom.

"Missy come on...it...was...only...a...rice ball." Sanosuke said as he jumped over the broom.

"ONE, TRY A DOZEN, YOU LEACHEROUS SNAKE." Kaoru finally succeeded in smacking him with broom. She hit him right in the head. This caused him to fall forward and the rice ball in his mouth to go shooting to the ground, now covered in dirt.

"Stop stealing my food." Kaoru huffed as she walked away. Cringing slightly as her wound was still tender.

Sano sat on the ground, on his knees bawling. "My rice ball, my rice ball." He kept mumbling as he held said rice ball like a fragile baby.

SHINK

Sano was now face forward in the dirt, his eyes spinning. Saitou had used the sheath of his sword to knock him over.

"Ahou, please do stay out of Miss Kamiya's food, her outburst are far from rational." Saitou turned towards the kitchen as a bowl of rice hit him in the face. The bowl fell from his face, and he had rice stuck around his eyes and on his chin. "What was that for?" He questioned irritably.

"That! Was your dinner." Kaoru called from the kitchen window then turned around and disappeared back into the kitchen.

Sano was laying on the ground laughing, until a sword was placed at his throat. He backed away and slowly stood.

"SANOOOOOO!!!!" Kaoru called. Sano burst to the gate and left. "Where did that rascal go?" Kaoru came out with a pan in her right hand, waving it.

Saitou lit a cigarette and pointed to the gate. `How could Battousai put up with this stuff?'

"Grrrrr," Kaoru growled as she went back to the kitchen.

Kaoru was searching for her rice ball ingredients and saw they were gone. "SANOOOOOO!!!! She had stormed out of the kitchen waving a pan, but found he was missing, so she went back to cooking.

`Kenshin left just like he said he would. He didn't even come back to say goodbye. I remember when I told Misao, she had bursted out the door, only to find him shutting the gate. She looked so sad. I cried that night when he didn't return, and when Saitou showed up saying that they had switched. I laughed and then ordered him out. He stood at my door the entire night Kenshin never even did that.'

Kaoru sighed and finished chopping her vegetables and put them in the hot water.

`I wonder where he is right now; he hasn't come by to see me or anything. I hope he is okay, I miss him so much.'

A knock on the door stopped the rest of her thoughts. She turned around and saw it was Aoshi. She smiled, "Hi Aoshi." He nodded and sat down. "Where's Misao?"

"..."

Kaoru grew angry and turned around to face him fully. "I am being nice enough to let you stay here the least you could do is answer that simple of a question, its not like I am asking about your life."

"..."

"EXCUSE ME!" Kaoru huffed and retrieved her knife. She slammed it into the table an inch from his hand.

Aoshi's eyes widened and he looked at her. "Finally I get some reaction that you're alive." Kaoru stated through clenched teeth.

Aoshi blinked, "Hmm?"

"You weren't even listening were you?" Aoshi shook his head.

Kaoru picked up her knife and went back to dinner. "Never mind."

Aoshi hadn't heard her; he was lost in his thoughts as well.

Kenshin swiftly ran around the house checking everything out, his unbound hair moving in the wind. Kenshin sighed and heard the rustling of clothing, he instantly went in that direction, jumping into a near by tree. He saw a clocked figure coming over the wall. He was stuck. Kenshin smiled and darted towards the figure. He unsheathed his sword, flipped it, and cut the fabric.

The figure fell onto his back moaning. Kenshin stood above him, his eyes glowing an amber color. The man before him was skinny and hardly had any muscle. Slowly the man stood groaning. He turned his eyes towards Kenshin and glared. Kenshin smirked and slashed him across the chest. The mans eyes widened and he fell backwards.

Kenshin lifted the sleeping mans body and hauled him into the house.

Kenshin dropped the man on the couch. `This is getting predictable,' Kenshin thought as he walked up the flight of stairs to his employer's room. He gently rapped on the door.

"Enter," Kenshin opened the door and walked in. "Yes,"

"Another one of those men is on the couch." Kenshin bowed and left the room.

Sighing Kenshin walked back down the stairs and looked to the couch, the man was rousing. "You would do well to stay there." Kenshin walked over to a chair and plopped down in it.

"WHY?" The man hissed angrily.

"You could be killed," Kenshin replied.

"Yeah right." The man bolted from the sofa to the door, only to find it blocked by Kenshin. The man looked back to the chair then at Kenshin. Kenshin glowered and shoved the man to the floor.

"Don't try my patience." Kenshin growled as he lifted the man by the hood of his cloak and threw him back to the couch.

Kenshin sat back in the chair and watched the man slightly. His thoughts drifted, `Kaoru, how are you?" He sighed and lowered his head. He heard the rustle of clothing and feet on the floor and dashed to the door once again, to throw the man back on the couch.

"If you'd like to keep trying to run, I can break your legs." Kenshin stared at him with no emotion.

"Umm.gulp...No thanks." The man's voice went high pitched at the threat.

"Then stay put and shut up." The man nodded and curled into a ball on the couch.

Kenshin rubbed his forehead and closed his eyes. He sat in the chair once again. He heard footsteps coming down the stairs and looked up to she Shinaku, the head bodyguard, come down the stairs. Kenshin reluctantly stood, and bowed to the man.

Shinaku looked at Kenshin and chuckled. "How you can make every supposed killer huddle into a ball like that, I will never know." He reach out and grabbed a strand of Kenshin's hair, missing the glare in Kenshin's eyes. "You have kept your hair down since the first day, and your as small and frail looking as a women." He chuckled once more and pulled on the strand.

Shinaku's arm was now twisted behind his back, his eyes wide and his mouth cursing from the pain. "You will do well not to tease me, or make fun of me." Kenshin's voice had dropped to a low whisper. Kenshin released Shinaku's arm and sat back in the chair.

Shinaku got angry and turned to face Kenshin. "What gives you the right to tell me, the head body guard, to watch myself?" His hands turned to fists.

Kenshin sighed and opened his tired eyes. "You were only put as high bodyguard, because I vow not to kill anymore. Kenshin turned his head exposing his scar to the man on the couch.

"Battousai." A small whisper came from the couch.

Shinaku's eyes widened once more and he looked Kenshin over and ran the description through his head. It matched perfectly.

Kenshin closed his eyes and then stood. "I will be retiring to my room now." Kenshin's tired response to the conversation.

Shinaku watched his movements. As soon as he was out of sight, Shinaku grabbed the man by his cloak and dragged him away.

Kenshin walked around his room slowly his thoughts kept returning to Kaoru. `Another week and I can go see her.'

I know it took forever to get this out but I couldn't seem to write it at all. I am sorry for the wait. It's so hard to type when you have a burn on your hand. Hot Chili burns, yep yep. Sorry just one of those stupid things that happen. Umm well I don't think this is any good. This chapter but I have more ideas for the next one so this is more of a filler chapter. Let me know what you think. I had something else to say but don't remember anymore.
