Chapter 03: Search and Rescue

Sanosuke twitched in bed, fast asleep, and oblivious to the fact that a certain redheaded samurai was in serious danger, that is, until his trusty alarm clock rang out through the dojo, disturbing his sleep.

He muttered something equivalent to "I'll take some eggs", practically rolled out of bed and almost fell face first onto the wooden floor. He stood up groggily and picked up his pocket watch from the top of his dresser.

"1:30," He grumbled. "Better go check on Kenshin." Yes, he had set his alarm to off so he could check up on the ex-hitokiri, knowing how reckless the redhead could get.

Sano trudged down the hallway and to Kenshin's bedroom. He paused. The redhead's door was wide open, and Sano knew Kenshin always slept with his door closed. He rushed into the room and low and behold he found the room empty and Kenshin's reverse blade sword propped up against the wall.

Sano did the only thing he could do at the moment. Panic. "Shit!!!" He yelled, slamming a fist down on the empty bed. He then quickly checked every other room in the dojo in hopes that he would find Kenshin wandering around. He wouldn't have, couldn't have, went into town at this hour and left his sword in the dojo, Sano thought frantically, checking the kitchen.

But, much to his dismay, he didn't find the redhead anywhere.

He rushed out the front door and to the city without a second thought.

Bright violet eyes opened up in the darkness of the room and blinked around at their surroundings. The stone floor was cold against Kenshin's back as he lay in a dimly lit room. He was alone.

Kenshin sighed. The last thing he remembered was the shadows of two men, besides the one that had been on top of him...then darkness.

He shivered and sat up, curling his arms around his legs for warmth.

The wooden door opened suddenly and Kenshin jumped. A burly man entered the room and smirked at him cruelly. "So how's our little angel doing?" He said, walking over to the redhead.

Kenshin remained silent, staring at the wall.

"Now, there's no reason to be shy," He continued and ventured reaching down and placing a hand on the redhead's shoulder.

Kenshin immediately stiffened. "Don't touch me," He said defiantly.

The man's smirk seemed to widen. "I can touch you when I want, where I want and how I want, baby. Want me to demonstrate?"

Kenshin snarled.

"I'll take that as a yes..." The man said before pouncing...or attempting to pounce on Kenshin, who, despite being slightly injured, was still very quick and jumped out of the way. The man ended up falling flat on his face on the stone floor.

The man growled and stood up and looked at Kenshin, who was glaring at the man from the other side of the room. "You'll regret that, Battousai..."

Just then the door flung open again and two other men walked in.

"Is the little boy giving you a hard time, Kenichi?" One asked the man who had tried to tackle Kenshin, and now had a bloody nose to prove it.

Kenichi looked at the other two men. "Baku...Ryou, what are you doing here?"

"We thought you could use some help, and apparently we were right," Ryou said pointedly.

Kenichi grunted. "I had everything under control."

Baku smirked. "Then what the hell happened to your face, you trip?"

Kenichi ignored him. "Everything's fine. He's here, isn't he?" He asked, pointing to Kenshin...or rather where the redhead used to be. He blinked. "Umm..."

"You baka!" Ryou yelled at Kenichi. "You were supposed to be watching him!"

"Well, if you hadn't been arguing with me, I could've been!" Kenichi replied.

Baku twitched. "Well don't just stand there, dumb asses, go find him!"

"But he couldn't have gotten out!" Ryou complained.

Baku glared at him. "He's the Battousai, damn it, he's probably half way to Brazil by now!"

With that said, the three rushed out of the room and Kenshin sighed from his hiding place on the ceiling, where metal bars had been conveniently placed for him to cling to.

He quickly jumped down and rushed out the door, which had been stupidly left open.

The rest of the building wasn't very large and looked like one of those weird haunted houses from the movies, with low lit candles and walls full of cobwebs. But once he found the exit he soon realized he had no idea where he was, but he couldn't be too far from where he was captured because all they had to travel with was their own feet and the sky was just as dark as it had been before.

The area consisted of mostly old deserted buildings, a ghost town is what most people would call it.

He decided to follow the dirt road until he got somewhere he recognized, which could take a while. But instead it hardly took him any time at all. Within about five minutes he was standing at the back of the Akabeko and quickly ran to the other side.

But before he had any time to rejoice, he found himself pushed against the ground on his face.

"Thought you could get away, huh?" He heard Ryou say from above him. But before he could say any more he was pushed off by Kenshin, being much lighter than Kenichi had been. He sat on the ground for a few seconds in stunned silence before spotting Kenshin's retreating form and taking off after him again.

Although the redhead was fast, the three men already had him cornered in a matter of seconds and pushed him against a wall.

Sano cursed as he crossed the bridge and made his way into the city, praying to whatever gods there were that the little samurai was alright. He hadn't gone far when he heard muffled screams coming from the direction of the Akabeko.

Kenshin! He thought frantically as he got closer to the source of the noise where he found Kenshin pushed up against a wall by the three men he had seen earlier.

Before the men had even taken notice of Sano, he had already driven his fist into Kenichi's gut, causing the big man to gasp and fall over unconscious.

"What the hell...?!" Baku said before his skull collided with the wall, making a sickening crack.

Ryou panicked and tried to flee, but quickly had his jaw dislocated from a fist under his chin.

Sano ran over to the redhead's side, who was now shivering and sitting on the ground with his back leaning up against the wall.

"Kenshin," He called, shaking the samurai's shoulder slightly.

Kenshin looked up at Sano. "Thank you," He whispered before falling unconscious into Sano's arms.

"He must be tired," Sano said to himself as he stroked Kenshin's long red locks.

Sano picked the samurai up, cradling him in his arms as he carried him back to the dojo.

But as he looked back at the bloody and unconscious men, he knew he hadn't seen the last of them.

DD: Finally...another chapter done!

Sano: Finally is right! You were playing Grandia Xtreme for two days straight, when you could have been working on this!

DD: I'm aware of that, dumb ass.

Sano: You'd think with so many good reviews you'd be working your ass off, but no, you have to go and be a selfish little--...

DD: *gets out handy dandy duct tape and tapes Sano to a chair along with taping his mouth closed*

Sano: *glares* *thinks: where does he get all that duct tape???*

DD: Are you questioning the magical-ness of the Author?!?!

Sano: *sweatdrop*

DD: That's what I thought... Oh, and all you readers must review and tell me what you think...and I know the chapter could have been a lot better, but oh well.
