Am I worthless?

I am adopted, I know. I do not deserve this wonderful life, or its gifts. I am but a burden to all who protect and shelter me.
“Anike, come on its time to go now.” Kaoru gently grabbed little Anike's hand. “Anike your hand is cold, are you alright?”
Anike did not answer.
“Kenshin, I think Anike might be feeling ill, let's bring her back to the dojo.” Kaoru turned concerned eyes towards Kenshin.
Kenshin merely nodded and followed Kaoru.
A day or two ago Kenshin and Kaoru, who were a married couple, adopted Anike from the adoption center. They had noticed a spark she had that the other kids lacked, not that they disliked any of them, but one was enough. Kenshin and Kaoru had wanted one of their own as well.
When the three were heading to the dojo, a quiet, almost contained whisper replied to them, “I do not deserve your kindness, for I am worthless.” The voice sighed.
Kaoru angrily turned to the direction of the child, “You are not worthless. You have a worth in our lives! Do not ever think otherwise, because your father and I love you.” She pushed the child towards her father's side.
“Anike your mother is right. Your mother and this one love you even until death; please do not think you are worthless.” Kenshin hugged Anike and got a response of little hands hugging him back.
Anike sniffled, “If I am not worthless, how come I lived in the adoption center for all my life!” She burst into tears.
Kenshin put a hand on her shoulder, “Because they did not realize what a unique and beautiful child they had given life to. For that is why your mother and this one had adopted you, for you have a gift not many like yourself, contain.” He chuckled, “Your mother and this one will be in the house if you need us.” Kenshin gently prodded his wife through the door with him, leaving Anike with one last lingering thought.
`I am not worthless, for others care for me. For that I am thankful.' She smiled and followed after her foster parents, no, just parents.
