Rurouni Kenshin Fan Fiction ❯ Chimamire Ame ❯ Chapter 1
Chimamire Ame
---Blood Rain---
"I know you… You are the one who makes the bloody rain fall…"
Nightmare bring me to the dawn
I must ride your body on
Deep inside me, I know you can't hide me from harm
He twisted his wrist, and the blade sliced neatly through the man's throat. As the blood exploded outward, it splattered against the left side of his face. He did not feel it, for he was solely concentrated on the sickly slide of the katana through yet another man's chest.
Faster than thought, he danced, bringing death to all that he touched.
Finally, he stood before the final soldier, a boy about his own age. This boy has been the small group's leader, and it had been his own miscalculation that had brought his men straight into the Ishinshishin lines.
"Your error has cost many good men their lives this night." He whispered. His voice was deep, and sibilant. Cold.
Absently, he passed one palm over his face, attempting to wipe clean the spattering of blood. It left an angry red streak down his left cheek.
He licked his hand.
The boy trembled, and backed away.
Following, he reached up to lightly touch the boy's face. "Pity."
"Please--- My father is a very wealthy man!! He could---"
The boy sheathed his blade.
The body fell.
I'm the secret that you bear
Born of anger and despair
Each time you meet someone, you live a lie.
Take this little girl before you now. You know as well as I that you could kill with that sakabatou. And even if you could not, I would.
...
How much you dishounor me, my darling. I am only your protector. Your friend. Your companion. I hold you when all other hands would shove you away in disgust and terror.
So why is it that you fear me?
Who will strangle me?
Who will untangle my hair?
I hate you.
I hate you because I love you.
I love you because I need you.
I am alive because of you.
I am penitent because of you.
I am kind because of you.
...
Please make no mistake. I also empathize. You never killed because you enjoyed it. You killed because you believed that it was right. Yet, as I grew weary of the bloodshed, you were only becoming bored.
Come to me, I can see
Though the holes in you eyes
"I love you because I need you."
Oh, darling, I love you, too.
I love you because you need me. Because you feed me. You lost your faith in men at a tender age, and you created me to fill that gap. To face the world for you, so that you might hide.
Yet you face the world now, as we speak.
And yet, you still hide.
When I scream out in terror
You're the one by my side
Yes, my protector. My ice tower with amber eyes... My defense against the night.
When I am frightened, you then hold me.
When I am lost, you always find me.
When I am hurt, you heal me --- make me whole again.
...Sometimes, I like my wounds to scar.
Sometimes I like to forget myself.
Sometimes I pray that you will just let me go...
WHY CAN YOU NOT LET ME GO?!
As the monster's childe
We've been captured for a lifetime
But we're free when we're wild
Steel makes an exquisitely sweet ringing sound when drawn forth from a sheath.
It makes a duller sound, yet, one of greater passion, when it slices through flesh and bone.
"Our soul is gone, you know," He whispered, staring at the desolation they had caused.
"No, no... We're all right. We are free."
"You are free. I am still trapped here, lost inside you..."
"Someday, darling... I will make you happy. Someday."
His hands went to his face. "Will it stop bleeding then?"
Sleep my little darling
Don't
You
Cry out for momma
She's all gone
Nightmare came and took her in his arms
He touched a hand to his wounded face, now forever marred in the form of a cross.
The blood now...
It was clean.
"What are you doing to us?!"
"Saving myself. ...And maybe killing you. I am sorry. Please, you must forgive me..."
Find your dark horse
And ride on your course
Through the storm
"You know you cannot keep me locked up in here forever..."
He did not respond.
"You almost let me go again..."
"If I allow you to be in control once more, I may not be able to get it back."
"Someday soon, you may not care."
"Never again."
A hand stole to a cross-shaped scar.
"I have chosen a path. Never again."
Lay me down, you can see
Through the rain in my eyes
That I've no more to lose
And I've nothing to hide
"....Are... they... dead...?"
"Yes."
The shock within his mind faded, replaced by white-hot rage.
"What are you going to do?"
"I am not going to do anything. But you are..."
Playing in midnight fields
Of dreams exiled
We are strangers in the city
But we're free when we're wild
He twisted his wrist, and spun gracefully to the side, sending the dying man's blood flying away from him.
His scarred face throbbed, and his eyes glittered amber in the dusk.
His hair fluttered down to one slim shoulder as the last of the men perished. It had once again been restored to its graceful topknot, and was matted with bits of coward's blood.
Across the darkened street, a man appeared. "Himura... Kenshin...?" He questioned politely, with a knowing smile.
"Hitokiri Battousai." He answered, voice deadly soft with murderous grace.
Jin'ei laughed as he vanished from sight.
And the Battousai smirked, blood drawn too thin over delicate lips. "We're all right, love. We are free."
We are strangers in the city
But we're free when we're wild
Owari
I am the psychopath… Coo coo cachoo. Seriously, I love Battousai. I really, really do. That is my only excuse for this fic. Gomen...
Original Notes:
The song is "Nocturne", by Sophie B. Hawkins.
Originally, this story was titled: 'Chiri Chimamire' which means 'Blood-covered dust', or something to that effect.
This was written under the heavy influence of lack of sleep, and Savage Garden's "You Can Still Be Free (Free To Fly Tonight)".
In the second-to-last scene, Kenshin has discovered the Kenshin-Gumi dead.
Besides the last, the fight scenes are all flashbacks to the Bakamatsu. The rest is present day conflict.
I love Battousai, and I couldn't resist resurrecting Jin'ei's ghost.
The above image is mine, so no stealing! Yes I know there is a typo. I can't go back and fix it now. Yuuum… Battousai…
