planned, but I can change that, if the readers want.

Dark Rebirth - Chapter 2 - Yahiko the Manslayer

Yahiko kept staring into his bedside mirror for several seconds, then he blinked, and looked away. He got out of the bed in the inn he was staying at,
and went to wash and shave. Afterwards, he got dressed. His black gi went on after his loincloth. He then put on his black obi, and tied a blood red cloth
belt around his waist. He then pushed his sheathed sword into his belt. He then left the room to go pay for the night.

The innkeeper was a short, rather pudgey man withhout much hair left on his head. He generally got on well with his patrons, but he had been quaking in his
sandels when that 6-foot tall stranger came in the night before and asked for a room. He was handsome, as long as you didn't look int his eyes. His eyes were a
shining amber, and seemed to announce that he had seen it all and done most of it. The sword at his hip only enchanced the felling coming frome his eyes.
Needless to say, the innkeeper started trembling when the stranger came back.

"How much for the room?" saked the stranger in a flat, emotionless voice.

"A, A yen..." replied the innkeeper, stammering slightly.

Without further comment, the stranger pulled a yen out of his belt pouch and handed it to the innkeeper, after which he headed for the door.

"Come again..." the innkeeper called halfheartedly. The stranger didn't reply.

"What sort of crazy person carries a sword in public and has the kanji for "assassin" stiched in blood red on the back of his obi?" the innkeeper wondered.

Yahiko walked down the street of the little town on the road to Kyoto, his destination. He made his way to the town's exit, passing through the crowd,
many of whom gave him wary looks. Dispite his sword, the police gave him a wide bearth as well. At the edge of town, a guard stopped him.

"Hold up sir!" the guard said, "You really shouldn't go on this road, a gang of bandits is terrorizing travelers along this road, and the police haven't
been abe to stop them!"

"So what?" Yahiko responded in his usual monotone, "If they get in my way, I'll just kill them."

"But sir, their leader is supposed to be a powerful manslayer from the revolution!"

"That'll just make things more interesting."

"Well sir, if you've made up your mind, go ahead."

Yahiko walked past the guard, and out of the town.

After about an hour of walking, Yahiko finally sensed a presence following him on the road. Based on the aura he was sensing, this was probably a scout
for the bandits. A couple of minutes later, the aura slipped away. A little while after that, Yahiko sensed a group of about 10 auras blocking his path.
When they were in sight, he was sure they were the bandits.

They were of varying size and shape, but they all had the look of men who's only baths coincided with rainfall. That, and they were each carrying a
weapon, although none of them looked like trained advasaries.

"Hello, stranger." said the biggest one in a falsely cheery voice. "In order to go along this road you have to pay a toll. Now give us all your valubles or
else!"

"Or else what?" replied Yahiko, "Or you'll kill me? You fools couldn't even scratch me if you had a Gatling Gun, let alone those weapons you obviously don't
know how to use."

"You bastard!" shouted the big one, charging, "I'll kill you for that!"

"So you want to die first?" said Yahiko, going into a Batto-jitsu stance, "Fine by me."

Yahiko waited until just a second before the big man struck, than unleashed the Batto-jitsu, slicing through both the man's sword an the man himself.

"What the hell?!" another bandit yelled, "You'll pay for that, bastard!"

With that, all the bandits charged, yelling and swinging their weapons.

"So now you all want to die?" questioned Yahiko. "It's your choice."

Yahiko rushed foreward and sliced through the first bandit, then spun and cut another's head off. Yahiko stabbed a third through the face, and then cut
up in an arc, slicing another in two. A fifth was dispached by a slash across his chest. The sixth, seventh, and eighth died by a spinning series of slashes
that completely shredded them.

"Wh.. Wha.. What kind of monster are you??" the last bandit stammered.

"One who will kill you as well unless you take me to your camp." Yahiko said, grinning evily.

Well, there's chapter 2! I hope everybody enjoyed it! By the way, I'm putting the brakes on my other two fanfics so I can concentrate on this one. Expect
updates for them within 2 weeks, though. I will update this fic every few days, hopefully. Review!!
