Full Moon
Chapter 2
Kenshin lay there watching as Sanosuke described how it had come to happen, and how it was that first night. As he finished the long tale, he turned to look at Kenshin, and their eyes met. Kenshin's eyes had the expression of awe, and yet, acceptance. Sanosuke slowly went to hold Kenshin's hand, only when the sting of Kenshin's blood touching his did he realized his mistake. Kenshin just looked at Sanosuke calmly, fully realizing what had happened. "It's all right, Sano, I already forgive you...", he replied before his eyes went glassy, and his body crumpled into a ball of pain.
Sanosuke sat by Kenshin, stroking his hand gently, until the full moon shone down from the distance, and he transformed. He watched as Kenshin undertook his first change, and another wolf lay next to him. 'Kenshin? Are you all right?', Sanosuke asked, nuzzling him in the shoulder.
'I'm.... Fine.', Kenshin replied, 'I'm... With you.',
Sano felt Kenshin's nose touch is shoulder lovingly. 'Come, we must hurry away from here if we don't want to run into anymore hunters.', Sanosuke warned, walking towards the cavern's mouth.
As the two ran through the night, both wolves now, both high spirited nothing seemed to matter. Sanosuke was the happiest he'd been since Sagara was alive. 'Kenshin, is this all right with you? Being what I made you to be?', Sanosuke asked when they had finally stopped.
'I don't see how I could say otherwise. I love you, and you didn't mean to do this to me.', Kenshin replied, 'Besides, after I found out that you were like this, I sort of wanted to have it too.',
'You're fully in control of it like me then?', Sanosuke asked.
'Why? Is there supposed to be some difference between me being a man or wolf?', Kenshin asked.
'No, it's just, some of us are.... Wilder than others.', Sanosuke explained, 'There's still a lot more to know about being a werewolf then what you know now.',
'Sano, I'm kinda tired, can we sleep now? Is it safe to?', Kenshin asked.
'Yes, I believe we should, morning is still a couple hours away, and the hunters are no where for hundreds of miles.', Sanosuke admitted.
The two of them curled up right next to each other. Of course, when they did both wake up, they were perfectly nude laying next to each other... That, and they didn't have any clothing with or around them, so... Only two things did Sanosuke have on at the moment, two medallions made of gold with strange symbols on them. "You'll need one of these, they get rid of the changes caused by high emotions, except on the full moon.", Sanosuke explained, "I was to give it to only one person that I would make into what I am. Sagara said to save it for someone special, someone that I... I loved.",
"Are you sure you want to give me that then?", Kenshin asked, "You already know I love you Sanosuke, but do you truly love me?",
"More than my life, Kenshin.", Sanosuke slipped it around Kenshin's neck, and it duplicated itself, so that Kenshin had two now.
"It does that to ensure that our dying race doesn't keep dying from too many changes.", Sanosuke replied.
"Does Kaoru know?", Kenshin asked.
"No, but she might as well, because I know the truth about her Father.", Sano replied.
"What do you mean the truth?", Kenshin asked.
"Her family was that of hunters, it was in their bloodline, as many are.", Sanosuke started, "I was unfortunate to run across a young man with his newborn baby girl in the forest one time...",
.....
Sanosuke watched from a distance as a man about five foot six tried desperately to fight off an attacking werewolf. This was old, however, and age did not come without wisdom, but it was wild, without control over it's wolf half. Sanosuke was still fairly young, yet, he knew that even with all the skill and strength this hunter had he would not win. He knew that if that would be the case, then two deaths would occur that night, the man's first, then his daughter's. However, Sanosuke still debated on helping a hunter, since he could be betrayed by the large man so easily. However, he decided, then acted without a chance to change his mind. The battle with the old one was long, grueling and tiring. But, in the end Sanosuke's youth and stamina won over all. Sanosuke limped his way a few feet from his now dead opponent before falling on his side, heaving with great pain. If there was to be any death, he was glad it was that of two werewolves instead of the innocent child's. His eyes rested on the child as he lay there, bleeding greatly, and he let his tail wag as the child watched in it's father's arms. The great man walked over to him, and carefully bent down, watching Sanosuke carefully. "You're not ordinary, are you?", he asked in his powerful voice, "You control it, don't you?",
If Sanosuke could speak in the human's tongue at the moment he would have been saying the answer sarcastically, only he settled on a bark, and a roll of his eyes. The man chuckled slightly, looking down at him. "You know that looks really stupid when a wolf rolls his eyes.", the man said.
Then, an unexpected turn the man lifted Sanosuke, careful not to let their blood mingle, and lay him in his cart that he had parked a little ways off. "Well, I take it you'll be needing someplace to heal up. You certainly won't be able to change until the next full moon anyway, so you can't harm us much, could you?", the man said.
Sanosuke just watched the young girl with one eye as she giggled at him, and Then, he soon fell asleep, with the lulling of the man's voice with the wagon's wheels and the night all mingled into a song of some kind.
In the morning, Sanosuke woke in a bed of some kind, with the man looking at him carefully. "My word, I wouldn't put you but a few years ahead of Karu, just a boy...", the man replied.
"I've aged more in my wolf's life then in my human one.", Sanosuke explained, simply.
"I think I understand that.", the man replied, "You took some pretty serious wounds from that other werewolf.",
"I don't mind, he was thankful for it all just to end.", Sanosuke answered, "He wanted to escape the thing making him kill, and watch himself do so and enjoy it.",
"I see, so the reasons for killing all the werewolves I've killed so far are just as I thought they would be. What of you? Aren't you wishing to die yet?", the man asked.
"No, I have to live to prevent the innocents from dyeing.", Sanosuke replied, "Like your young daughter.",
"You knew she would have died without me there, didn't you?", the man smiled, "You're clever for your age.",
Sanosuke gave a wolfish sort of grin, "I know, that's how I've survived so far without my leader with me so far. I tend to steal meat, or chickens when possible, and save them for my meals later.", Sanosuke replied, "I also protect my lair with hunter traps, not to hurt them mind, just to get them to leave me alone.",
"All right then, I think you should heal in about a week's time, then I think you should hurry back to your lair on the next full moon. Until then, you are to hide yourself down in the cellar, I'll have my daughter bring you food whenever it's safe.
This all worked out of course, and Sanosuke returned to his lair intact, yet ready to see the rest of the world now...
